United look to appoint Technical Director
And now for the appointment of a technical director. Manchester United are to push ahead with the recruitment of someone to work alongside, rather than above, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now that the Norwegian has been appointed manager. And someone who has a similar feel for the club, which would suggest an internal appointment or another former player.
Despite the fierce criticism United have faced over their patchy transfer dealings, the club do not believe they are in need of an overhaul in the way they operate. Instead, they argue that a number of changes have already been made behind-the-scenes to modernise their approach. They do not need more change, they say.
But there is an acceptance that, having spoken long enough about hiring someone to drive the long-term strategy forward, it is anachronistic that a club of United’s stature and resources does not have a technical director.
And it will be a technical director, rather than a director of football, and someone who does not sit above Solskjaer and between him and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
The manager will not report to the technical director but the latter will, nevertheless, take a longer-term view on the first-team, loan players, the academy and, significantly, have an input (rather than overall control) of transfers. He will work with Solskjaer.
That may dismay some fans given the argument, with foundation, that Woodward’s overseeing of recruitment – players as well as managers – has been far from impressive. The criticism will be that United still do not possess a figure with the network of contacts to act quickly and decisively in the transfer market.

Poor performance yesterday - very lethargic (almost Mourinho-era-esqe!) and lucky to get the win tbh. Assuming tiredness following the internationals but Ole still has plenty to do over the summer...

It was a terrible performance. The team needs at least 6 signings to make it competitive at the sharp end of the division.thebillfella wrote: ↑31 Mar 2019, 12:46Poor performance yesterday - very lethargic (almost Mourinho-era-esqe!) and lucky to get the win tbh. Are the experts shifting Rashford and Pogba out of their FF sides?

Possibly not counting as an expert, but I will probably transfer out WC34 and bring at least one back GW37 based on fixtures and rotation risk potential during champions league last 8 period.

Depends who they're playing. They'd thrash Barcelona, but would get turned over by Bradford Park Avenue
If United's season fizzles out and they don't finish top four or win the CL, it's instant pressure on Solskjaer, having to rediscover the momentum after the summer.

Ole has the summer to hit the Transfer Market, but the £100m plus for the Citeh kid in Germany would bust the budget for other positions?

They've spent £100m in 3/5 seasons... given the low spend this year (£30m), and the current revenue streams, I'd say they have £200+ to blow in the summer (thats without sales).

So, Wenger Cup run-ins...
Arsenal - no top six opponents, but five away games including all the teams in 7th-10th.
Chelsea - go to Liverpool and United, not that many gimmes in there.
Man Utd - Home clashes with City and Chelsea key. Surely have to win the other four at least.
Spurs - Five home games at their new stadium, and City away the only scary one. If they can recover their composure they have the best run-in.

Spuds latest home is important ditto the Sarri "revival" and can Ole get MU firing again?
I'd guess Arse will be 3rd or 4th, but who fills the other CL spot? I quite like Ole, while thinking Loch is now over-rated. If Sarri drops his ball he could get it with RLC and\or H-O getting starts....

Re: Manchester United Seasonal Blog 2018/19 - Ole Ole Ole Ole
Funny game that one. Started great and should have been at least 3-0 up in the first 30 mins. Then a silly mistake by Fred let them back into a game they hadn't looked threatening in and everything turned around. Once Young got himself sent off for a silly second yellow there only looked like being one winner - all very disappointing and further evidence of the challenge Ole has over the summer (which will be made that bit more difficult if they miss out on a Champions League place).
Looks like Mata and Herrera will be leaving on a free (well done yet again Woodward - they are getting on a bit and in need of being changed but losing them for nothing is just incompetent), De Gea playing hardball again over a new deal and the ongoing saga over Pogba's future (which most of us are getting increasingly fed up with and wouldn't lose any sleep if we cashed in and replaced him tbh). Add to that the clear need for a new right back, centre back, centre mid and a right winger as a minimum and it looks like Ole has a pretty busy summer coming up. Hopefully he'll have a Technical Director appointed by then to help him out.

I thought Mata been getting one year contract.
Herrera don't know how that happened don't think he was first choice under jose.
Fred was all right untill mistake, Other then the mistake he was quite good.

Surely this is just their agents trying to pull a fast one?
Barce also linked with Liverpool’s Moreno. They’ve gone right down the $hitter if Moreno and May are genuine targets.

Karius got lots of support including from fans at pre season games before he left. The club also got him fully checked out re the concussion thing (not a club invention - think it was Franz Beckenbauer who first suggested it and subsequent medical tests proved it).

Glad it's not just me who scratched my head at that one?
Barca transfer policy has gone a bit weird of late. KPB, Paulinho, Vermaelen, even an aging Vidal, just don't feel like traditional Barca signings to me.

Yeah, their tradition is developing their own, supplemented by well chosen A-list signings from abroad.thebillfella wrote: ↑04 Apr 2019, 21:57 Glad it's not just me who scratched my head at that one?

Neither of those channels has quite delivered recently, and it’s largely the brilliance of Messi that has kept them on top domestically, while they haven’t really delivered in Europe in recent seasons. Their other established stars, Suarez, Busquets, Pique and Rakitic are all the wrong side of 30 as well. With Real’s post-Ronaldo decline setting in, are we seeing the end of the era of El Clasico dominance in Europe?

Manchester United's Summer transfer window if rumours are to be believed:
- In : Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Kalidou Koulibaly, Declan Rice, Saul Niguez
- Out : Valencia, Darmian, Rojo, Herrera, Mata, Sanchez
[Telegraph]
Think Varane and Niguez may be difficult for someone of Woodward's inability to get over the line, as will finding a suitor happy to take on Sanchez's wage demands (thank god for Chinese teams I guess).
The rest are all feasible and would be good young additions improving the first team, although I don't see Declan Rice being any better a prospect than Scott McTominay tbh (although better to have more than one if they are both seen as long term replacements for Matic and Herrera).
