2018 Summer Transfer Window

Post by Maldini »

Looks as though Alisson’s starting to happen.

Will he be the puzzle piece behind the couch, that makes Klopp’s team complete?

So Leicester sign Danny Ward. Weird one unless he thinks he can be first choice which COULD mean Schmeichel to Chelsea and Au Revoir to Courtois

Seems to be a cash issue? (ie all gone on Allison?)

Everton close to signing Barca left back Digne.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... Digne.html

Bad news for Leighton Baines? The article says Silva wants to play 3 at the back and wing backs so maybe good news for Coleman. They'll need a few more signings to have 3 PL quality CBs.

Yeah, Baines is 33, they probably need to move on, particularly if they are switching to that system. They have an ageing group of CBs as well, along with Keane who didn’t settle last season, so a definite need for reinforcements/replacements.

Williams, Jagielka and Baines all appearing to be going over that hill all at the same time is going to be costly (in squad transition terms as well as monetary terms).

Mitrovic seems to be getting the permanent move to Fulham. Presumably he'd be their week in week out striker.

Newcastle had been looking at a Rondon loan I read to cover the gap. Pitiful lack of ambition under Ashley. Almost feel sorry for their fans.

Transfer Window creeping shut

Post by Beacon »

So there are only ten days until the transfer window does its biannual ‘slamming’ which feels a bit mad. The gap between it closing and the World Cup ending is ridiculously short and on the face of it seems to be catching some teams out.

There doesn’t seem to have been a massive amount of movement and for some teams hardly anything at all. The sooner players are in the sooner they can start to get used to playing within a new system etc. The fact there seems to be so much business still left to do, in such a short space of time, will mean a lot of players are going to have to find their feet as the season goes along.

Not only that, clubs are going to have to either block any moves abroad after 9th August or try and plan ahead.

Just a quick look around the clubs shows that some won’t be happy with where they’re at:

Spurs haven’t brought in a single player and look to be the most affected from the WC. They won’t have Son for few games either. They look vulnerable to injuries especially to their key players. There are also question marks over the futures of Tobi and Danny Rose.

Man United (well Jose) clearly aren’t happy with the business they’ve done so far. Jose says he would like two more players. One of those it seems is Maguire but this late in the window are Leicester really likely to sell? They already have the Mahrez money so don’t need to sell. There’s also talk of Willian but if Chelsea have already turned down bids from Barca it seems even less likely they’ll sell to a rival. If they don’t sign anyone Jose’s mood won’t improve and it will be the card he’ll bring out every time something goes wrong.

Arsenal to me look like they’ve done smart business so I’m not sure we’ll see much more from them. I’ve been impressed how they’ve quietly gone about their business. Time will tell whether the players they’ve brought in are of a good enough standard to get them back up into the top four.

Man City were clearly after someone to help out Fernandino who isn’t getting any younger, but were beaten to Jorginho by Chelsea. That suggests they would still be open to someone else but with Fred having gone to Utd and Fabinho to Liverpool there aren’t many available at that level. They do have a fantastic squad though so I’m sure Pep won’t be stressing too much if he goes with what he’s got.

Liverpool are unlikely to buy anyone else. They’ve addressed their most glaring problems although with Fekir falling through they obviously would have liked one more player. Klopp isn’t one for compromise though so unless someone of a similar style/level becomes available he’ll stick with what he’s got. That Fekir deal is dead but the one I wouldn’t be surprised to see is Puilisic if Dortmund decide to cash in.

Chelsea look the most interesting to me. Having appointed a manager so late they’ve made things difficult for themselves. Also they look the most vulnerable to foreign clubs coming in for some of their better players. They need to make a decision on Courtois, either sell now for a relatively small fee or lose for nothing next year. If they sell they need a replacement. There are also question marks over Hazard and Willian. Again losing them so late in the window, or even worse, after the the window has shut, would be seriously damaging for them.

Everton look like they could be the busiest. They have Iranian money burning a hole in their back pocket and have been linked with players in plenty of positions. It looks like Pickford will be staying. Digne looks likely so I’m not sure what that would mean for Baines and surely they must be looking at another CB.

I won’t pretend to have a decent knowledge of the rest of the league but I’m sure there’s lots of business to be done. The transfer windows recently have ended as damp squibs but I’m genuinely looking forward to how this one pans outs.

What are people’s expectations over the next ten days? Any players you’re hoping will sign or see move that would benefit either your real life team of FPL one?

I think Fekir was due to them (rightly) spending the cash on Allison.

nice write up, there will be one day where it just goes crazy!

Most likely the last day of the window, all the hard work and planning everybody has done will be ripped up and then a mad panic to shuffle your squad around :)

From everything I’ve heard the two aren’t linked. Fekir was all but signed but some specialists who looked at the results of a knee operation he had suspect it may not hold up long term. Liverpool don’t have the kind of resources where they can afford to lose 60m on a crocked player. Plus at the time this was happening Roma were quoting 90m which Liverpool weren’t prepared to pay. It was only when Real dropped out of the running that Roma set a more realistic price. The money is still there if an acceptable alternative come along.

Thanks much appreciated. Yeah could be all change especially if some of the bigger clubs poach players from the smaller clubs. Could lead to some bargains that will be too good to turn down.

Yep, agree, Liverpool offered less after the medical with concerns that his long term injury was reoccurring. Lyon rejected the lower amount

Not sure how reliable this is, but:

Nabil Fékir is more likely to sign a Lyon contract extension than leave the club this summer, according to France Football.

Mawson to Fulham for £15m seems a ridiculous bargain. He’d have been a decent addition to the Liverpool squad.

Even for the Everton first team.

Yep, very strange, unless we Jo Public's are missing something.

Admittedly Lpool may be a step too far, but certainly Everton and maybe Chelsea as a Cahill replacement and some toughness for Arsenal, although they have bought 1 or 2 CB's.

It is isn't it, it's going to be Thursday when all the moves happen  :D

almost the start of another week and there has been little or no activity.

beggars belief that clubs leave it until the final day, I know the selling clubs want the best possible deal (or maybe don't want players to leave at all), but surely they need to give their managers a fighting chance of getting replacements in. I know Spurs fans are furious about their lack of activity, and if they need to sell before they buy, why are they messing about with the likes of Toby? just get them sold and give Poch the money to get some other players in.

If any moves do happen late next week, we'll have no pre season games to assess how they fit in with their new clubs, combine this with the late return of World Cup players and uncertainty around some premium picks and it's all pointing to an early WC for me.

what a ball ache :(

Rondon has passed his medical and will sign for Newcastle today, adding to Muto (6m) from last week we've finally upgraded Joselu/Gayle (hopefully).

Sick tired of getting scraps!
I'd rather we sign an unknown from Liga Aguila in Bolivia or the Qatar's Stars League and not always French unwanted surplus or relegated teams under achievers...

I wasn’t hugely impressed with him at the WC but not sure if that was the system more than him. He was being asked to play a high line but didn’t seem comfortable with it and looked exposed. I suppose he’ll have a completely different set up at United and have plenty of company in defence. All feels a little desperate though. Considering how long Jose has been there you’d think they’d have players lined up a lot earlier than this. Something not quite working in the recruitment team.
