Longest serving managers

Post by forestfan »

So after “Wexit” at Arsenal we now see Paul Tisdale leave Exeter after 12 years, meaning for the first time since the mid 90s at least (and perhaps long, long before...), no manager in the senior English leagues has been in place for a decade or more.

The longest serving manager is now Morecambe’s Jim Bentley at a fraction over 7 years. They stayed in the Football League on goal difference, so don’t expect his tenure to extend a lot longer! Then comes a group of managers appointed in autumn 2012, including Eddie Howe, now the Premier League’s longest serving boss at the age of 40.

I expect plenty of turnover of these titles in the near future. 3 years’ service just about gets you in the top 10! They deserve a testimonial...

Quite a flamboyant character, wasn't he ? Mistake by Exeter letting him go. They had been unlucky the last two years (although I wanted Cov to win)

Never heard of the Morecambe manager but some of that time must have been in the non league ?

Those days of th 60s/70s and 80s, when managers seemed to be around for ever, seem a very long time ago.........

The Tisdale one is an interesting situation, he was effectively working a two-year notice after the supporters’ trust owners declined to renew his (expensive for that level) rolling contract. Sure he will be snapped up pretty quickly.

Morecambe were promoted to the League in 2007 so before the current manager. Accrington’s John Coleman deserves a mention though, in charge since 2014 in his current spell but had a previous 13-year stint there (most of it in non-league).
