Money, its a hit....
Spending over the last 5/8 years figures taken from here
Most clubs have probably turned over a large proportion of their playing staff within 8 years.*
Figures heavily skewed by the recent TV deal meaning the recent two seasons are probably disproportionate to the rest.
Net Spend 5 years
City 563
United 437
Chelsea 222
Arsenal 188
Everton 126
Liverpool 53
Spurs 2
Incoming player spend - 5 years
City 781
Chelsea 682
United 612
Liverpool 472
Arsenal 357
Everton 342
Spurs 341
Net Spend 8 years
City 741
United 540
Chelsea 439
Arsenal 186
Liverpool 124
Everton 110
Spurs -9
Incoming player spend - 8 years
City 1066
Chelsea 957
United 756
Liverpool 658
Arsenal 477
Spurs 429
Everton 369
* Between the 7 clubs, only 10 players that were there 8 seasons ago there are still in place
Arsenal 3 - Koscielny / Ramsey / Wilshere
Everton 3 - Coleman / Baines / Jagielka
United 2 - Valencia / Smalling (3 if you want to include Pogba)
City 2 - Silva / Kompany (4 if you include Hart and Yaya)
Liverpool 0
Spurs 0
Chelsea 0
8 years is obviously a long time in a footballers life, so probably has a lot to do with previous discussion about clubs youth development.

Re: Money, its a hit....
Was surprised to see Liverpool had no players who had been there 8 years (excluding TAA (14yrs) and others who have been there since nappies) so looked up who had been there longest. Henderson 7 years. Sturridge and Mignolet 5 years. Lucas managed 10 years and Skrtel managed 8 years before leaving in recent times.
(PS Nothing to do with nothing but, according to Wiki, TAA's grandma once went out with Alex Ferguson )

But yes, you assume (or I did) that 8 years isn’t ‘that’ long. But it apparently is.
Wonder how teams further down do in that regard? Do they have less turnover of players?

Re: Money, its a hit....
Player wages are what make my eyes water. According to @KieranMaguire on Twitter, the two FA Cup finalists have a combined annual wage bill of half a billion pounds.
There's loads of other stats on his feed gleaned from the official club financial accounts. Most Championship clubs spend more on player wages than their entire income. One club is/was losing a quarter of a million every week.
Scary stuff.

Re: Money, its a hit....
Saw a tweet earlier stating the the combined income of the top ten richest Premier League clubs over the past 25 years was the equivalent to six months of betting at Bet 365.
Football’s figures might be staggering, but they can still be dwarfed.

Re: Money, its a hit....
Jesus!!!!
No wonder the woman who started it is paying herself so handsomely.
The staggering thing is, she was a newcomer.
Who in their right mind would start up a betting company? It’s all been done already and the market is saturated right?! Fortune favours the brave (and he rich)!!
EDIT: when I heard this story the other day, I’m sure it said she only started it about three years ago. A wiki search suggests that the online sote was starter about 2001 (with a £15m bank loan secured against the property from the high street bookies they had). Not quite the gate crashing upstart I thought.

Yeah, her dad’s been chairman of Stoke for years... their fans can’t be impressed that she’s paying herself £0.25bn while the club languish in the Championship.

I'm sure I saw something about a Prem player's new contract and the amount of tax he will be paying exceeding a few big Companies. (I assume Google and Amazon were named.)
