I must admit i totally disagree with you on this too, so we'll leave it there
Indeed, I'm not going overboard on that particular decision, although replays\clips of the foul for the FK seem to be like rocking horse 5hite

Some players are treated differently re microscopic analysis of such things though?

On one replay it actually looks like a real obvious penalty. Many other angles make it clear he was playing for it ("bought" it) BUT it was still a genuine pen and if he had been a decent person playing naturally (rather than a dubious rule bender / cheat trying to con a ref) then he would have still been caught and probably gone down.

(In summary, despite my personal dislike of Fake Ronaldo, I still think it was a pen)

Agreed, although whether bent or spectacularly incompetent is hard to call.

Perhaps FIFA's (with Blatter at the helm) then pattern of appointing officials from minor footballing nations to run big games had it's most testing moments.

Elevating obscure officials who may be more eager to impress or please their employers than, say, an elite nation referee had been later copied by UEFA under the not so surprising watch of Michel Platini.

UEFA's own policy perhaps sunk to its own maximum depth of ineptitude with Tom Henning Ovrebo's infamously dreadful display in the Chelsea vs Barca 2009 CL semi seven years later.

I'm sure Italy were "ref'ed" out of Korea and quite sure Spain were too. I doubt these were the only ones (it was a long time ago) and made the whole thing unwatchable, imho. (Obviously the times of matches didn't help.)

I suspected France might get frustrated if they didn’t get an early goal, and it’s proving to be the case. Too many players who blow hot and cold. Peru and Denmark will be happy with what they’ve seen so far.

Cahill header in last 5 mins, or Aussies go down to 10 men before the hour is up and the gates open? (Hmm maybe both: 10 men and the header to win 1-0....)

Didn't France struggle in a recent (last?) Friendly? Nevin said something like that about one of the Favourites....

Yes I think Italy were extremely aggrieved over a sending-off of one of their stars (Totti?) when he seemed to play the ball.

Spain were perhaps even more unjustly treated and had two perfectly good goals disallowed as the officials constantly seemed to give all decisions in favour of the South Koreans.

The allegations were obviously that officials were favouring South Korea in a tournament that was set up as a showcase for Asian football.

FIFA surprise, surprise of course denied this (take that with the contempt it deserves), an intriguing subtext is the attempt by Sepp Blatter to distance himself from the many flagrant errors, calling some of the linesmen in Japan and South Korea "a disaster".

Interesting also to note that FIFA subsequently appointed two front-rank European refs for the semis.

Lesson learnt perhaps.

A quick Google......

Beat Portugal (Red Card) 1-0, Italy (Red Cad) 2-1, Spain and then, assuming you are correct, Euro refs for Germany and lost, admittedly only 1-0.

I really need to do some stuff
The United States lost to Germany 1–0 in Ulsan by a Michael Ballack goal in the 39th minute, but controversy surrounded the game when United States demanded the referee give a penalty for a goal-line handball by Torsten Frings in the 49th minute, but the referee did not award the penalty. from Wiki

I did think it was more than pro-South Korea...

I'd still like to see a clip of the Foul for the FK last night  Assuming Russia finish second they have Spain if they win their Group?

Not sure that 2nd French goal was in. Goal Line Hawkeye thing had it a few mm over but I haven't seen a single replay that convinced me (either way). No visible gap between ball and line on any. Lawrenson (another umTiti) doesn't know the rules if he says that was so obvious they don't need technology to prove it....

I’ve had to turn the commentary off. He’s making me want to top myself.

Has he had anything positive to say about anything?

Very unconvincing win, look miles away from challenging even though its far too early to write them off.

Just very very lucky to win

BBC losing the plot... cut abruptly from the VAR discussion, to some Argentinian fans in the stands pre-match, then a test card, then some Radio 1 shit, then eventually back to the studio!

Have they shown the GLT image yet? Listening on radio, GLT is objective fact so there shouldn't be any discussion.
