The Franchise Cup 2017/18
Idea!
We all secretly like US sports....we all have a favourite team or city.....it's much easier to watch and follow them these days....so, I have a game.
Choose a 'franchise', follow them through 4 seasons, with different scoring metrics and the overall winner is declared. No great amounts of skill required, however I hope to give the 17 that play a greater interest and a greater reason to follow US sports?
It will start in April with the MLB season and end in June next year with the NBA playoffs.
MLB April to October (162 regular season games)
NFL September to February (16 regular season games)
NHL October to April (82 regular season games)
NBA October to June (82 regular season games)
What do you do? You assign your name to one of the 'Franchises' below and they score as follows
Regular season record +/- 1 point with the following
MLB x 1
NFL x 10
NHL x 2
NBA x 2
Due to the disparity between sports in numbers of games played, they are multiplied accordingly, e.g.
NY Giants finish 9-7, +2 x10 = +20 points
Yankees finish 70-92 -22 X1 = -22 points
Islanders finish 48-34 +14 x2 = +28 points
Knicks finish 38-44 -6 x2 = -12 points
Hopefully the scoring metric keeps it all quite similar, despite differing games played
Division Winners 10 points with the following based on number of teams beaten in division
MLB x5
NFL x4
NHL x7
NBA x5
Conference winners 5 points with the following based on number of teams beaten in conference
MLB x15
NFL x16
NHL x15
NBA x15
Championship Winner 100 points
NY Knicks with a winning regular season record of 60-22 (84) winning division (50),conference (75) and Title (100) score 309
NY Yankees with a losing regular season record of 66-96 would score minus 60
Each franchise has strengths and weaknesses in all 4 sports. You're drawn to Cleveland because of Lebron James and the cavaliers, but you also get the Browns who will slit your throat! Each one has examples of that. I've really mixed up the New York and LA groups! I've had to be geographically creative in one or two places but it all kind of fits!
Copy and paste the following list with your name by your Franchise of choice and the fun will begin in April with the Baseball. I'll post regular scoring updates as we go along. It's my game, I love the Cubs and I'm having Chicago, so there. Some real strength on this board though
Please play?

You've picked first (omfg, you are O'Bomber )
I'll have Boston, coz I've watched a few episodes of Cheers and kinda given up tea.

It's fair to say this hasn't exactly exploded! I'll try and bump it for a couple of days and give up if it fizzles out.....
Any takers?

Re: The Franchise Cup 2017/18
Would have taken SF but that's gone so will have NY version 1. Giants seem to have had a good free agency, don't really follow the other sports but expect the likes of the Yankees to be competitive at least...
Might be worth PMing the NFL game regulars to boost interest in this, it's well hidden away in this sub-forum and the title gives little clue as to what it's about, could have been fast food restaurants or MK Dons
