If you take the wrong course you will be disqualified.

In other words, a contestant must keep at least 7 guineas for the final day.

Yes, you must make sure you have enough to put out a full team on Friday.


Basically, the budget is there for a reason. If you picked teams of 16 points on three days but ignored Friday you would probably have an advantage over those who were budgeting carefully.

You'll see that some runners were disqualified on the last day in previous races, often because they went over budget.
