Cillessen must be the first keeper to be subbed twice in a World Cup... certainly when not injured and for two different replacements as well!

Is it cheap to ask by how long that is backdated?

Great so far, can't pick a winner even now.

Does anyone think that the pitch is cutting up a lot?

Just about deserved, great finish.

Messi struggled against Holland and Germany with only a few isolated glimpses of his talent.

I think Argentina are too dependent on him and Germany have been the best team this World Cup.

The best and most entertaining team won it, fantastic.

As for Messi, well, couldn't produce when it really, really matters. A great player, but not one of the very best players of all time. Muller will surely go on to take Klose's record eventually.

Sure it's voted before the final, there's been a few slightly curious winners before - a bit of a vote on reputation here though he did score some great goals early on.

Love how Dilma has the most slapped-arse face you've ever seen. Why didn't they just let Merkel hand over the trophy?!

Good luck Scotland, you're up next...

No wonder Rodriguez didn't turn up to pick up his Golden Boot. My player of the tournament

...and the Beebs, apparently

Congratulations Germany, the best team of tournament.

As for Messi being the player of the tournament award, farcical.

Wouldn't even get in my team of the tournament and again showed that without Xavi and Iniesta, he goes missing for far too long in games.

Saw this tweet:

"FIFA's Adidas sponsored player awards all won by Adidas poster boys. Don't understand why this is a surprise."

Great team performance again by the Germans, but a special mention for Bastian Schweinsteiger. He was contributing all over the pitch and took a battering from the Argentinians, man of the final for me.

Good closing credits by the beeb too, and a nice farewell to Hanson - will actually miss him on MotD to be honest.

All in all, thoroughly enjoyed the tournament - closed the gap to the start of the next domestic season nicely :)

Not even Argentina's best player of the tournament

Agree with this ...

How Messi was given the Golden Ball ahead of Thomas Müller, ahead of Schweinsteiger and ahead of James Rodríguez is one for Fifa’s technical study group to justify. We expect bizarre decisions from Sepp Blatter but not from respected coaches like Gérard Houllier and former internationals like Sunday Oliseh, Ioan Lupescu and Mixu Paatelainen. Very odd.
