Alongside the official McDonald's FIFA.com FISO league, I am running a ‘tournament’ sidegame for a third summer in a row. We will return to the pairs format of Euro 2012, however threes will also be permitted as well! Find out how in the rules below:
- This will be a pairs competition, so 64 applicants must enter to guarantee a competition. In addition, further applicants up to a maximum of 96 applicants in all are permitted to enter. Should the maximum of 96 applicants be reached, this competition will instead run as a threes competition in all practical respects.
- To enter, simply add yourself to the copy-and-paste list running in posts below.
- The deadline to join the competition will be 11:59pm UK time on May 31st.
- All entrants must enter their team into the official McDonald's FIFA.com FISO league for the 2014 FIFA World Cup no later than June 10th at 11:59pm UK time. There will be not be a separate mini league within the Game for this competition.
- Once the deadline is passed, all entrants will be divided into four pools (A, B, C and D) according to their FPL performance* for season 2013/14. In the event that more than the minimum of 64 applicants enter, the composition of the pools will be determined by me (Tacalabala) such that a competitive balance is achieved.
- Generally, pairings** of A+D and B+C will be the only permissible pairings. Depending upon the number of applicants over the minimum of 64, I (Tacalabala) will outline how and who will be placed in teams of three - automatic pairing may form part of this process. All such decisions will be communicated via both this thread and PM to those affected.
- The deadline to state pairings will be 11:59pm UK time on June 5th. If there are any unpaired entrants, they will be paired by random draw by me (Tacalabala) before midday on June 7th at the latest.
- All teams will be seeded according to their average FPL season 2013/14 ranking* (only of the two highest ranking players in the case of teams of three), and will be assigned to represent the country corresponding to their seeding for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals draw. Thus, the highest seeding team will represent Spain, the highest seeded country at the World Cup. However, adjustments will be made by me to ensure that teams of three are, a) grouped such that teams of three will face at least one other team of three (but for one in the event of an odd number of teams of three), and b) that there will be an even distribution of teams of three across the groups, such that there cannot be three such teams in one group, but only one in another.
- The teams will take on the group stage schedule of their country, and the knockout stage will follow the exact same format as that of the World Cup.
- Scoring in matches will follow a similar format to that of FISO 5AS:
- Teams will face each other in two single H2H matches where there are teams of two facing each other or two vs. three, and in three single H2H matches where teams of three face each other. The exact H2Hs will be determined by individual ranking (in Matchday 1, this will be the ranking in FPL 13/14). Where teams of two play teams of three, the lowest ranking entrant of the team of three will 'sit-out' the game and play no part in a H2H match. Should teammates be tied by ranking, they will be ranked according to their FPL performance.
- A win in a H2H match will equal 1 goal scored, a draw will equal 0 goals. During the group stage only, an extra goal will be awarded to the 3 highest scorers each Matchday (if there is a tie, all those tied will be awarded), whilst an extra goal will be conceded by the 3 lowest scorers each Matchday (if there is a tie, all those tied will concede).
- During the knockout stage, should the result of the H2H matches result in a match being drawn (0-0 or 1-1), the total Round points of the teams will decide who wins. If that does not separate the teams, the total points combined of each team will decide who wins, and if still tied then the average FPL ranking of the team. - The ranking of teams in the groups will be determined by the following factors (and in this order): group points (3pts for a win, 1pt for draw, 0pts for a loss); total Game points (Fantasy points); goal difference; goals scored; higher number of group points obtained in the matches among the teams in question; average Game points obtained in the matches among the teams in question (less transfer penalties, including ‘sit-outs’); Game ranking of highest ranking manager in each team; Game ranking of lowest ranking manager in each team; Combined FPL total; coin toss conducted by Tacalabala (or appointed independent person where result directly affects Tacalabala).
** 'Pairing' refers to teams in this instance, composed of either two or three entrants.
So, there you are. Got it? I’m sure it’ll become clearer as we actually get down to business, but if you think I’ve made a mistake, please please please let me know.
