Castrol EDGE Grand Prix Predictor 2012

Introducing the Castrol EDGE Grand Prix Predictor

The Castrol EDGE Grand Prix Predictor is based on the 2012 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The game is free to play and offers you the opportunity to predict the top 10 finishers at each grand prix. You can compete against friends, and for prizes, throughout the year.

The game commences with the Australian Grand Prix on March 18 2012 and runs through to the final grand prix of the season in Brazil on 25 November. You will score points for your predictions at every race.

At the end of the year, the overall winner will win the 'Ultimate Prize' - a selection of motorsport experiences, including F1 grands prix, worth up to £20,000.

You may sign up as many teams as you like, however you can only register one per e-mail address.

Making your predictions

Playing the Grand Prix Predictor is easy. Simply predict the top 10 finishing order of the upcoming grand prix using the simple tool on the 'My Predictions' page.

For 2012, you can also predict which driver you think will get pole position, which driver will set the fastest lap and which driver will gain the most positions during the race.

You can make unlimited changes to your selection up until 5 minutes before qualifying for each grand prix, at which time your predictions will be locked.

Once you have made a prediction, this will automatically become your prediction set for the full season, unless you change your predictions between grands prix.

PRIZES

Ultimate Prize

This will be awarded to the player who scores the most points in the Grand Prix Predictor game across the whole season. The grand prize is a set of Castrol EDGE ultimate motorsport experiences worth £20,000, including VIP trips to Formula 1 grands prix, the Le Mans 24 Hours and Australia for the classic Bathurst V8 race. Terms and Conditions will apply. Age restrictions may apply.

Race-by-Race prize

A prize will also be awarded to the player who tops every grand prix during the official 2012 Formula 1 season. Terms and conditions will apply.

SCORING

Points will be awarded as follows:

points - Correctly predicted finishing position.
points - Prediction one place away from actual finishing position.
points - Prediction two places away from actual finishing position.
points - Prediction more than two places away from actual finishing position.

Extra selections

For 2012, extra points can be scored under the following criteria:

points - Correctly selecting the driver on pole position.
points - Correctly selecting the driver with fastest lap.
points - Correctly selecting the driver who gained the most positions.

Bonus points

Bonus points will be awarded for achieving landmark sequences or predictions as follows:

bonus points - Correctly predict the top 10 finishers in position.
bonus points - Correctly predict five podium finishes over the season.
bonus points - Correctly predict the finishers from 4-10 in position.
bonus points - Correctly predict the top three finishers in position, the driver on pole position, the driver with the fastest lap and the driver who gained the most positions.
bonus points - Not selecting the winner of the previous grand prix in your top 10 for the forthcoming race. One-time bonus only.
bonus points - Correctly predict the top three finishers in position.
bonus points - Correctly selecting a driver outside your top 10 for the fastest lap.
bonus points - Awarded as an extra bonus for the first correct podium prediction.

Driver changes

If a driver moves teams, or a new driver enters half-way through the season, the list of drivers will automatically be updated in the Castrol EDGE Grand Prix Predictor.

If a driver you have picked is declared unable to race once the Grand Prix Predictor deadline has passed, you will automatically be credited as having picked his replacement in the same car and will score any points scored by the replacement driver.

Changes to results

The race results used for the game will be the official race results published by the FIA. Any disqualifications/time penalties issued within 12 hours of the end of the grand prix will be taken into account and the Grand Prix Predictor scores amended accordingly.

Retrospective changes to official results imposed by judgements of the FIA Court of Appeal or the FIA World Motorsport Council will not be taken into account by the Grand Prix Predictor and player scores will not be amended.

Tie-breaker

In the event that two or more players score an equal number of points from a grand prix, the player who submitted their predictions earliest will be shown in the highest position in the league table and the player who submitted their predictions last will be shown in the lowest position.

The rules will also be applied to the Competitions including the Ultimate and race-by-race prizes, which will be specified in the terms and conditions of each Competition.

DEADLINES

You can change your predictions up to and including 5 minutes before the start of qualifying on the Saturday before each grand prix.

Any changes made after this time will not take effect until the following grand prix.

LEAGUES

A new feature for 2012 is the ability to create and join Leagues. You can create private leagues, where you compete against your friends, and join global leagues.

Private Leagues

To create a league click create, give the league a name and then follow the instructions on the page. You will then receive a league code, which you can send to friends. They need to click 'Join League' and enter the code.

All leagues are scored on a regular basis, with teams being ranked according to their total points in the game. Players can join or leave a league at any time.

In the event of a tie, the player who entered their prediction earliest will be ranked above the player who submitted their prediction latest.
Global Leagues

You will be automatically entered into the overall leaderboard, a global league comprised of every player competing in the Grand Prix Predictor.

JOINING DATES

You can join the game at any point throughout the year and will remain eligible for all prizes, subject to the eligibility of your country of residence as stated in the Competition terms and conditions.

Yeah. He could have been a world beater but for that idiot Foitek causing that horrific accident in F3000 back in 88.

Never was the same after that, even with a few GP wins under his belt.

I actually have a signed photo from '89, still :)

Should really have ended his career, amazing to think he actually started in F1 after that and did quite well despite barely being able to walk (at least initially).

Really nice guy too.
