Re: Horses on the Roads!?
What if the rider is a hottie?
Also should we allow a horse to shit in the road, thus making it a hazard for cyclists?

Re: Horses on the Roads!?
More importantly why are they allowed to take big steaming dumps on the roads or bridleways and the riders (including police etc) don't have to pick it up. Yet if a dog owner lets his dog do a relatively tiny poo away from even a path he can get fined £750 if he doesn't clear up.
Maybe if they walked through red lights then they wouldn't be able to dump as they are moving???
Why are we discussing horses at lights? What about a zebra crossing or a rhinoceros?

Surely the danger would be a zebra at a zebra crossing?

Why's that Wilbert? Because of them being camouflaged?

Re: Horses on the Roads!?
So why is that different to a cyclist wearing black..... or a black car.... or a tall scrawny pedestrian with red, amber and green lights on the back of his head?Richt wrote:Why's that Wilbert? Because of them being camouflaged?

just stick a high vis jacket on any zebras when they're out in public. sorts out any H&S requirement.

If a zebra was wearing a hi-vis coat then how would you know it wasn't a horse*?Moist von Lipwig wrote:just stick a high vis jacket on any zebras when they're out in public. sorts out any H&S requirement.

Re: Horses on the Roads!?
Just to get this thread back on track.....
I've just re read the original question, it doesn't specify whether the horse is riding a bike or driving a car. I guess it might even be in a lorry if its done its HGV licence.

Orange hi vis = health and safety operative and zebra
Yellow hi vis = general operative and horse.

Re: Horses on the Roads!?
could probably still tell from its rear legs, unless it was wearing the matching hi vis trousers. For arguments sake I'll amend it to a high vis waistcoat. More zebra surface area on display for identification purposes then.murf wrote:If a zebra was wearing a hi-vis coat then how would you know it wasn't a horse*?Moist von Lipwig wrote:just stick a high vis jacket on any zebras when they're out in public. sorts out any H&S requirement.

You wouldn't be able to see its legs on a crossing as it would be camouflaged.....

Re: Horses on the Roads!?
But how will they know the light is red.................
Source = WikiHorses are not color blind, but have two-color, or dichromatic vision. This means they see two of the basic three wavelengths of visible light, compared to the three-color (trichromic vision) of most humans. In other words, horses naturally see the blue and green colors of the spectrum and the color variations based upon them, but cannot distinguish red. Research indicates their color vision is somewhat like red-green color blindness in humans, in which certain colors, especially red and related colors, appear more green.

Re: Horses on the Roads!?
if its driving that may actually be a problem for the horse or zebra. if its waiting to cross the road at a signalised crossing it'll be ok as the red and green men are different shapes for this reason. How the horse/zebra will manage to press the call button on the crossing with a massive hoof though is another matter.

Re: Horses on the Roads!?
Well MVL, similar to the whirly thing that goes round at the bottom of a traffic light button pressing thing, to enable blind and deaf people to know when to cross, I am assuming that there is also a high pitched sound that comes from it too that only horses can hear?

You're very informed. Just to educate the massesWilBert wrote:Hi vis beanie, blinkers or muzzle as that is what what would hit you first? Bit like the offside rule.
Quote
In 1929, a commission chaired by Scotland Yard police commissioner, Sir Henry Maybury, held extensive hearings to find the most suitable priority rule at junctions.3 Stenton Cooke, chairman of the Automobile Association, proposed the use of the “off‑side rule”, which his organisation had advocated since 1921. The rule required every animal who arrived at a junction to give way to traffic from the right, regardless of the volume of traffic or the importance of the intersecting roads.

You'll be quoting from the turnpike laws soon Jimmy and getting Fiso to riot against zebra crossings in Rebecca's clothes.
