Don't cover your tracks after giving rubbish advice old then old timerKarrde wrote:The 17/2s are fine - up to a point. You judge them by their form. If they are in good form then keep them that way and get a double out of them. A 21/7 at the level your team is playing is ok for a first generation... but do not waste time/money training or playing them unless they are in exceptional form. Concentrate on who you can significantly improve.
What do you class as exceptional form? 18? 19? How rare is that?
edit...Anyway, you won't be wrong no matter how much we discuss it. As I said I give up.
Spiny my advice is to sack all the 17/2 and do as blah says and buy 16/3's if you don't want to do a lot of studying of the players and wheel and deal.

Re: I've got a team!
In a team THAT crap, if I had a 17/2 by mistake and he was on 16 form, and maintained that at the start of the season without costing me any training money. I wouldnt bother swapping him for a random 18/4.
If you want an example, Quahog in the YDL. Kaspar Cornelius, a 17/2 sold on for 5.6mil as a 22 year old. It is possible with the right player in the right form to correct the error of having a 17/2... and with all due respect, Quahog are a better team with better finishing positions than the team we are talking about at the moment. The 17/2 didnt do them any harm.
But if you really want to drill down to the best advice. 17/2 and 18/4 players are both pathways to a team that will win naff all ever. Almost always, its a waste of money training them and certainly always buying them.

Now that is better advice than mentioning 18/4sWilBert wrote: Spiny my advice is to sack all the 17/2 and do as blah says and buy 16/3's if you don't want to do a lot of studying of the players and wheel and deal.

Re: I've got a team!
So here's a question. If I put my 17/2's up for sale will there be someone like me out there who will think they are 17/3's?

Just noticed that you can't do that.Spinynorman wrote:

Re: I've got a team!
Well the cull is nearly over and I've won my first game of the season 6-0.

Re: I've got a team!
So is the plan to stick with this for a couple of years until you see real progress? I would still seriously consider moving on after a couple of months. There are better teams out there for you to make a long term project out of. I would stick it out here just long enough to get your rating up.

Re: I've got a team!
I've got a feeling that I may get rather attached to this mob.
Thanks to you Karrde and all of the other for the help and input by the way.

Re: I've got a team!
I know the feeling of getting attached. I did it myself with Currahee. They were a bottom division team with 0 points with just the final game of the season to go when I took over but i loved them instantly. Just giving fair warning that its going to take you years to see a reward from this mob. If youre prepared for that then I think its the best thing you can do in this game, but isnt for everyone. Its taken me since May 2009 to get the team to where it is now, I have no regrets either. I will stay another 5 years if I have to

Re: I've got a team!
Lost 5-1 over two legs in the cup which looking at the merits of the team I was up against could have been worse.

Re: I've got a team!
Went down 2-0 away in second league match although at least had 5-3 in favour in terms of chances. I've got two big red crosses already.

Re: I've got a team!
Just played a friendly with a team that I beat 6-0 nil with my old mob and won this one 7-0. Which was nice.
