Will Roeder still be the Newcastle manager next week?

Post by Steph »

This is Tom Nash's Newcastle update posted on a different thread...

********

Newcastle United lost their captain Alan Shearer to injury over Easter and they will lose their manager Glenn Roeder to bureaucracy next weekend.

Roeder will be forced to step down as United's caretaker manager after Saturday's clash with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday as he does not have a Uefa Pro Licence - in breach of Premier League rules.

The rules, supported by the League Managers' Association, state you cannot manage in the top flight unless you have the top coaching qualification, with caretaker managers such as Roeder who do not have the certificate, only allowed to fill in for a maximum of 12 weeks.

Yet while Roeder will no longer be called United's manager, in reality, the change will only be cosmetic. Reserve team manager Tommy Craig will be named as manager on Newcastle's team sheet but Roeder will continue to pick the team, as well as direct things from the dugout and give team talks.

The question is, will Tommy Craig take over from Roeder as far as the Guardian is concerned? Mr Green, could you enlighten us please?

Although he has received special dispensation for this season at Newcastle, this doesn't give us the answer to murf's question about next season. Didn't he have the same problem at West Ham?
