Premier League Press Conferences and Twitter 2018/19

Post by TheBigLewandowski »

Winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh is available but the summer signing will probably be named amongst the subs: "There's a big question mark as to whether [he's] ready to start the first game. Having some involvement off the bench is more likely." #BHAFC
Glenn Murray should be OK despite being forced off in Brighton's final pre-season fixture because of a back problem. #BHAFC
Jurgen Locadia has been back for a few weeks after recovering from a groin injury, but Florin Andone is likely to miss out. "He should train tomorrow or Monday." Sounds like Hughton will not risk Jose Izquierdo: "We want to give him a bit more time." #BHAFC

Pochettino on those late returners: "The circumstances are different for each [player]. Some need more time to get fit. Some will be fit to start the game, some will be fit to be on the bench. Maybe some players will stay here to because maybe we don’t want to take risks." #COYS
That should main a return for Moussa Sissoko who has managed to overcome a hamstring problem. The likes of Kane, Alli, Trippier, Dier, Lloris, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Rose and Dembele will be assessed following their late return. #COYS
Missing the trip to St James' Park this weekend.
Victor Wanyama [knee], Lamela [unspecified muscle injury], Foyth [thigh] and Carter Vickers [groin]. Winks [ankle] and Onomah [knee] have returned to the training pitches but Saturday could come too soon for the pair.

Leicester could be missing up-to six players for the trip to Old Trafford. Matty James and Nampalys Mendy are the only definite absentees. Evans, Vardy and Maguire all in with a shout. #LCFC
Puel will make a late call on Maguire and Vardy who are ready mentally, but lack fitness following their late return earlier this week. A muscle injury is likely to keep Mendy sidelined, however, James Maddison is okay and a decision on Jonny Evans will be made today. #LCFC
Puel on Maguire: "I am happy to keep Harry and all our best players. We lost Riyad, he was valuable for us but was important to keep all our best players." #LCFC
Croatian defender Filip Benković has signed a five-year contract with #lcfc after the Club agreed terms with Dinamo Zagreb for his transfer #WelcomeBenković

Suspect Phil Jones will be fine following his involvement against Bayern Munich. Lindelof as well. Rashford available and Bailly looks to have shaken off a minor ankle issue. #MUFC
United missing at least six for the opener vs Leicester tomorrow.
Romero, Valencia, Rojo, Dalot, Herrera and Matic are all injured.
Mourinho will talk to those players who returned late post-WC [Young / Pogba / Lingard/ Fellaini / Lukaku] to determine their availability. #MUFC
Mourinho is not expecting any new faces to arrive before the deadline. #MUFC

Chris Wood had a reaction to an insect bite. Defour [calf] and Brady [knee] weren't included either. "But Joe [Hart] and Ben [Gibson] have travelled for a reason – to be included if needed.” #twitterclarets

Jamaal Lascelles confirms bonus row has been resolved:
"We’ve managed to sort the off-field stuff; now that’s out of the way, we don’t have any reason why we can’t go out and put on a good performance."

Joe Hart comes in for his Clarets debut but Ben Gibson has to settle for a place on the bench. Aaron Lennon [tight hamstring] and Stephen Ward [knock] are named amongst the subs having picked up knocks against Aberdeen. #twitterclarets #UEL

Tom Cleverley is targeting a return in the Autumn after undergoing surgery to repair a long-standing Achilles problem. #watfordfc
Nathaniel Chalobah is training with the team "but he needs more time". 18-year-old defender, Ben Wilmot, had a little problem in his knee. "He will be ready for next week." #watfordfc
Okaka is not quite there, but the attacker, who had surgery in April, should be back in contention before the end of the month. Saturday will come too soon for Deulofeu after he suffered a minor setback in training: "I think he will be ready in 2, 3, 4 or 5 days." #watfordfc
Abdoulaye Doucouré has been passed fit for the visit of Brighton despite missing pre-season due to appendicitis: "He is fit and in a good condition to play,” said Javi Gracia although a decision must be made whether last season's Player of the Year is ready to start.

It is hard to know what to expect from them isn't it?
Foster looks an experienced signing in goal.
Don't know much about Navarro or Masina?
Their opening 3 fixtures don't look that bad on paper.
A wait and see for me. Could surprise a few perhaps?

All the attacking FF prospects are mentioned above, and Kiko has been noticeable only by his absence preseason.

Fixtures look better from GW8, tbh, after 3 top 6 in 4 GW's.

Man City Presser

Post by ZeroRemorse »

Pep Guardiola says Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne are available for selection this weekend, having returned to training on Monday in good condition.

GW2 is going to be an absolute lottery for City.

I'm fretting about Mahrez' gametime with Sterling back so soon, and also Jesus vying for a spot. Not sure I can find the extra 0.5 for Eriksen.

Seriously thinking of just going with Aguero and bringing in Pedro for B Silva. Which is a big U-turn considering I was pondering switching in Mahrez instead.

Anyone heard anything about whether Pickford is starting for Everton?

Not sure on the last point, but I am covered with Stekelenburg on the bench.
Decided not to go with rotating goalkeepers as it has punished me so often in the past, picking the wrong one.

Yeah, I can't be a$$ed with rotation in that area either. I wouldn't know where to begin with rotating keepers, anyway and I'm still not 100% on my midfield.

Excellent overview. Thank you for your work.

City really a big lottery. Good run after Arsenal - but I guess I just go for a defender and Agüero. If I were to consider a midfielder, only KDB.

Sean Dyche expects Chris Wood [allergic reaction to an insect bite] to be available at Southampton but Robbie Brady and Steven Defour remain on the sidelines. New signing Matej Vydra will build fitness with the U23s on Monday. Heaton comes back into contention. #twitterclarets

"We're looking forward to the season and a few lads were a bit nervous but once that rubbed off, it was okay. We didn't have Ken Zohore today and we've got Harry Arter to come back as well. We've got a lot to look forward to." #Bluebirds [BBC Sport]

“If we can keep Ryan [Fraser] fit he'll be a big player for us this season. We needed this win after a poor start last year and it's our first opening day win in the Premier League." #AFCB

Jokanovic confirms left-back Joe Bryan was forced off due to an ankle complaint. Needs to be assessed, but doesn't look to be too serious. #FulhamFC

Pochettino plays down Moura and Dier injury concerns: "No, no they are okay. I hope that Monday they will start to train with the team. Eric was so tired. He felt in the end cramp, but Lucas nothing." #COYS

Sarri said Eden Hazard wasn't ready to play 90 minutes today. Better to be introduced from the bench for the final 15 or 20 minutes when the opponents would be tired. #CFC

Lovren to see a specialist after playing through the pain in Russia: “I cannot train at all because of stomach muscle issues,” he told Croatian outlet Sportske novosti. “I am suffering a lot of pain and will see a specialist doctor in the Netherlands.” #LFC

Deeney: "People think we would fall apart because Richarlison left, this is a great squad. We’ve got Nathaniel Chalobah and Gerard Deulofeu to come back." #watfordfc

No injury for Trippier who missed out today: "Everybody is different, one player may be ready in two weeks another may take a month. We are trying to help them all improve but football is about the squad, and with so many players." #COYS

Knee injury for DeAndre Yedlin: "It is too early to know what has happened, we have to wait and doctor has to assess the injury. The squad is a little bit better than last season, but it depends on the new additions to improve the starting XI." #NUFC

Malmö's sports director opened a bottle of coke with a snus can and the cork hit straight into Jari Litmanen's eye. I've heard that the eye never recovered 100%. Also this one is hilarious: Santiago Canizares The Spain goalkeeper missed the 2002 World Cup after accidentally shattering a bottle of aftershave in his hotel sink. A piece of glass fell on his foot, severing a tendon in his big toe.

For pure ingenuity there is an easy winner:

Darius Vassell The then Aston Villa striker missed several games after he drilled through his toe nail with a home power drill thinking it would relieve the pressure on a swollen toe. The attempt at DIY surgery succeeded only in giving the toe an infection which required medical attention.
