Virgin Media Fantasy Football - now run by STATS not SM
http://fantasyfootball.virginmedia.com/
2009/10 Virgin Media Fantasy Football.
Their new game promises to be a much better experience than last year (as it comes from STATS, the makers of The Times' Play The Game - but much simpler).
I have set up a FISO Mini-League for which Virgin Media have said they’ll be giving the winner an exclusive-to-FISO prize at the end of the season (TBC). The password to enter the FISO Mini-League is: fiso0910
If you sign up for the game by 14 August you’ll also be entered into a prize draw to win an XBOX 360. They have a warm up game until the end of August so good chance to see players on form and any late real-life transfers before picking a team properly.
From the website:
* WIN great monthly and season prizes!
* Completely FREE TO PLAY
* Warm Up Period until 29 August!
* A £100m budget to select a squad of 15 fantasy players
* 2 Transfers per week - select your formation and rotate your squad
* Challenge your mates - compete in mini and head-to-head fantasy leagues

... except there are no Burnley players to choose.
The only mention of Burnley is as Stoke's next opponents.

At it again is in. For those that played last year you don't need to re-register, even though the organisers are different.
Looks good, especially in comparison to the game last season...
Thanks for arranging the ML prize to add that bit of spice to the league

Re: Virgin Media Fantasy Football - now run by STATS not SM
I think the site still needs a bit of tweaking - seems to be some inconsistency as to when warm up ends / proper season starts - 29th Aug or 1st Sept - seems to reset points at 5pm on 29th , yet deadline is either 2pm on teh 29th or from an hour before first matches on 1st Sept - also all deadlines seem to be set at 2pm/6.45 despite 12.45 kickoffs , and finally the stats section seems to have quite a few anomalies - crouch and distin played 70 games last year ? , rodallega didn't score yet matt taylor got 18 , kamara only played for 78 mins all season etc etc
won't stop me entering as it does look a bit more interesting

Joined the Metro this morning and it was a delight to use, this however is a different ball game, really clunky, poorly designed IMO, though I'm in.

Re: Virgin Media Fantasy Football - now run by STATS not SM
Registration form disappears on the screen i'm currently on at the library - probably flash based, so i agree with spencer - not a great design, and not everyone will be able to play, eg if they only have an old computer system.
STATS are better known in the u.s., but over here they have run games for william hills and ladbrokes, in previous world cup and euro tournaments, as well as "play the game". Those games ran ok, won't be able to judge this one til i get home and have a look on an up-to-date machine. Games designers often forget that not everyone has the newest equipment, and in effect they are preventing some of the potential customer base from taking part.

I'm in but it is terrible to navigate around the site - not helped by the daft video playing all the time. My connection is slow enough without having to stream that!
Still to work out how to change my squad around... Can you swap formation or are you stuck with whatever one you choose? When I try to swap say Crouch for Cahill it says I need to swap players in the same position.
Before anyone quotes rule #1, I'm off to read them now!

I might just be wrong here but my guess is that Cahill is a Midfielder and Crouch is a Forward.Jester wrote:I'm in but it is terrible to navigate around the site - not helped by the daft video playing all the time. My connection is slow enough without having to stream that!

Ah, that clears it up - thanks!
As I said, I'm trying to change formation. That entails dropping a midfielder for a striker, ie going from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3.
Can I do that? I don't seem to be able to.

Look in the top right, above your squad selection. There's a drop-down list with the different formations in it. Try changing that then click Update.
It's a bit fiddly. You'll have to take Crouch out, then change formation, then bring in Cahill.

By 'take out' do you mean bench or transfer?
I can't do it any way other than transfering the player out of my squad.
