TFF Four Full Draft Game - Season Six - 2017-18

WELCOME TO 2017-18 TTF FOUR FULL DRAFT GAME – SEASON SIX

Welcome back everyone, please confirm your wish to play again a.s.a.p. Other managers are also welcome to apply, although only a few places will be available.

As usual we will commence this season’s game as soon as the EPL transfer window has slammed shut at the end of August. Hence the first draft, barring unforeseen events such as an extension of the transfer window, will begin on Friday Sept 1st, This will take several days and scoring will commence on Sept 9th.

As before there will be an absolute maximum of 15 places available.

All last season's participants who wish to play are guaranteed a place. The majority of managers replied to my mid summer PM that they wish to play again. Two declined and a few didn't respond at the time. Since then two new managers have PM'd me asking to play, both have a solid Fiso history and so I've given them the two known spare places. Although its likely that there may be another couple of places once we know the intentions of all last years' participants.

Hence will all managers please confirm in this thread their wish to play again this season. And will the two new managers also post their confirmations here.

Given that there will probably be another couple of spare spots, anyone else who would like to participate or even just to investigate this game is invited to show their interest either by posting in this thread or by sending me a PM. Any spare places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, with priority to those with a solid Fiso history.

As the “field” will have to be finalised by August 26th*, please indicate interest as soon as possible. New managers will note that we have four totally independent drafts; in September, November, January and March. This is because in an earlier game it was found that the season’s results tended to be dominated by what happened in the one initial draft, irrespective of subsequent transfers. Four drafts means that everyone has a chance at least until February. Furthermore it also means that it is less likely that “the league table will lie”. Mind you streety did win very decisively last season.

The rules shown below are the same as last season as no one has suggested any significant changes. However any suggestions for improving the game from past participants are stiil welcome and will be considered up to August 22nd. Any suggestions which are endorsed will be included in the Rules by Friday 25th August.

The order of the first draft will be determined by the main Lottery Draw of Aug 26th. The first draft period will include the 10 sets of EPL fixtures starting on September 9th.

Significant dates for the following three drafts will be posted as updates in this post as will any other key information.

The second draft will start at 9 am on Saturday 18th November. It will include 9 sets of Premiership games and the FA Cup Third Round.

RULES

1. Snake style draft beginning on Friday September 1st, (subject to final confirmation). The order of the draft will be based on the following process.

Firstly the national lottery draw (Saturday August 26th) will be used, as previously, to determine to the order in round one of the draft. Subsequently players will be allocated different positions in the second, third and fourth drafts as follows, (or similar for a different number of managers).

1 12 6 7
2 11 5 8
3 10 4 9
4 9 3 10
5 8 2 11
6 7 1 12
7 6 12 1
8 5 11 2
9 4 10 3
10 3 9 4
11 2 8 5
12 1 7 6

Edit 3rd Sept: During a draft a manager can draft as soon as his time slot starts. However he can draft ahead of the time of his time slot if all managers before him have already drafted or if those before him who haven't yet drafted have missed their time slots. But a manager cannot make a selection before 8 am on the day as his time slot, unless all managers have made all their selections for the previous day, or he has dispensation to do so, for example due to flight times.

2. After the initial draft there will be 3 full drafts during the season, (dates tbc – designed to divide the season as equally as possible into four quarters). During all drafts any player who was not on the TFF player list at the beginning of that draft will not available for drafting until the following draft.

3. Every full draft will be held several days ahead of the designated transfer windows.

4. Every manager must re-draft at least one of his existing players into his team during each of the three mid season drafts. so that he only uses a maximum of 10 TFF transfers per draft because TFF only allows 5 transfers per week. (for new managers this is better explained under rule 6).

5. Every player who has not re-drafted one of his own existing players into his team by the end of round 6, must do so in round 7, so as not to risk “going to the wire and cocking up”. As an additional safeguard, I’ll keep a record and if at any time a player looks like he could be at risk of breaking the rule, he will be given a “nudge”.

6. The designated transfer window, i.e. when we physically make our transfers on the TFF site, may or may not open immediately after the conclusion of the draft, depending on the EPL schedule. Every transfer window will be divided into two halves, with Monday midnight representing the dividing point in the window. Every player must bring in five of his new players into the team prior to Monday midnight and his remaining new players after 00.01 on Tuesday, and before the next relevant kick off. This is due to TFF only allowing a maximum of five transfers per game week. Naturally if a manager has re-drafted in two or more of his existing players, his second set of transfers will be less than five.

7. Between drafts managers will be able to make transfers if they have “spare” transfers. (c.f Rule 9). However managers will only be allowed to transfer in players who are not in any other managers’ team. (this tends to involve players coming back from injury or who suddenly get a first team place). Any manager wishing to take advantage of this must post their proposed transfer in this thread, wait a minute and then do the transfer and post that they have done it. This will avoid having two managers both transferring in the same player unbeknown to each other at the same time. In addition any player drafted into teams using a spare transfer MUST have been available at the beginning of the last full draft. At the end of any new draft, managers cannot transfer any player out of their team until one set of fixtures has been completed, specifically not until 00.01 am on the Tuesday morning following the first weekend of fixtures.

8. Managers will only be able to make one of these single transfers if they have at least 35 transfer remaining up to the second draft. (in other words managers will be able to make up to five transfers between Sept 12th and the second draft). After that managers will only need to ensure that they have at least 10 transfers left per remaining draft. Hence in order to be able to make an inter-draft transfer managers will need to have at least 21 transfers remaining in their teams between the November and January drafts, at least 11 transfers left between January and March, and at least one transfer after the last full draft.

9. If a manager omits to do his first five transfers on time, for any reason whatsoever, he will simply make five transfers between Tuesday 00.01 and the next deadline. He will then make his remaining transfers at his next opportunity. This means that his score is likely to be incorrect. If his official TFF score is the same or less than it would have been if he had done all his transfers correctly, he will simply maintain that lower score and there will be no penalty. If however his score is higher than it should have been his score will be reduced by the "illegal" points that he has gained to reduce his score to what it should have been. In addition, for a first offence in a season, he will incur a 10 pt "adjustment" penalty, with a 25 pt penalty for any subsequent offence. The same adjustment rule will apply if a manager omits to make his second set of transfers (x-5) on time.

Great game but I'm sitting this one out. Just not for me really, but can wholly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the good old auction based OFL variants. Best of luck to all

Worth noting at this point that I've discuss running a back to back FPL Draft League to complement this TFF FFD with Striker and Robot. The idea is that we then have a Combo TFF/FPL King of the Drafts League!

Plan to do it roughly around the same time (during the international break) at a time to be agreed. Obviously this would be concurrent with our other draft but given that the FPL draft is over in roughly an hour that shouldn't be a problem. That would have the same advantage as our TFF game in that there would be fewer managers stuck with the likes of Costa, Coutinho or whoever departs the EPL at the end of August, and avoid the luck of the waiver system for the EPL's new Messi.

Open to any suggestions - if there is enough interest for this on here I'll set up a new thread linked to this in the FPL Draft Forum. So for ease of admin maybe the easiest thing to do is respond to the list saying if you are up for TFF, FPL or BOTH?

Sorry to hijack thread!

I agree that if, and as soon as, bill's FPL league gets 8 managers, a new thread for that game is created.

If it achieves the eight, I suggest that the Combo table is included in that thread as it will only involve the 8 managers playing the FPL draft game.

I'm not averse to having a league with 9 or 10 members if the interest is there, but open to majority verdict.

I'll defend my title :) and happy to do another FPL draft. Both times that I have done one the site has worked well.

For changes, I sent over in an email the following... The only thing that would improve the game for me is the visibility of the chosen players/recent picks. Sometimes if Robot is busy we can get way behind on what has been picked and have to scroll through lots of posts.

That's a valid point. On the other hand even a major check back only takes a minute or two. But any suggestion to minimise the problem would be welcome. I don't know, for example, if it's realistic or not for another manager to have access to robot's tables/software/whatever so that they could update the player grid whenever robot was very busy???

A key point is that managers after posting their selection should quickly scroll back over the two or three previous posts to check that they haven't missed another manager's recent selection when the two of them posted at roughly the same time. They should then edit their last post accordingly.

I'll have a think if there is an easier way, because it can be quite time consuming for me as well.

Google docs is an idea but I don't really like using it.

Not putting the prices down would make it quicker, but if someone effs up would take longer to spot and harder to sort out.

Is someone else permanantly avaliable and could update quicker than me?

Only different idea I could think of is using post 2 of the thread to list every player and I highlight in red when picked and time stamp the post so you just look at posts after the date stamp.

Awaiting responses from;

Rick Spangle
lyons316
drdes

I'm expecting Rick Spangle and drdes to be playing as they've both indicated they wish to play in the last few weeks. However there's been silence from lyons316, so I wonder

streety if you could chase up your mate to see if he is intending to rejoin this season? He hasn't logged onto fiso since August 4th.

Assuming that we get at least two out of the above three, and of course if we get all three, I'm inclined not to issue an invitation to other fiso-ites, as 13 strikes me as a good number. At least one manager has suggested that 15 is on the high side.

Opinions please!
