Cheers Simon,

My team now upgraded to gold.

First season playing this, so am really up for the challenge.
Now have 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 standard team all for £35, so can't grumble.

Are there normally a lot of multi entrants in this game or are the leaderboards quite eclectic?

@edmo - lots of different names on leaderboard usually, possibly because prizes relatively smaller, fees relatively higher than other games. Last year's winner was two weeks late entering - that wouldn't happen in other major games.

@simon - upgrade works here too, thanks for sorting.

Cheers quizking, I suppose the fees are higher, but the point about the winner entering on week 3 gives hope to us all.
The only other squad game I have played is the Mail, and I peaked at 32nd before tailing off. Is it important that all your 16 players are utilised with autosubs/rotation, or can you do well with just a stronger 11?

Different tactics each season - i came fourth overall a couple of years ago with a non-playing cheapie "enabler" for the last half of the season, others have concentrated on rotating expensive strikers, last year would have been won with a packed high-scoring midfield. You pays your money etc etc etc.....

And it's not only about tactics concerning non-playing goalkeepers or a lot of strikers, but also managing your transfers. I can remember a winner from a couple of years ago who burned all of his transfers in March. Don't know if this is the right tactic, but it might pay off :-)
And Simon, the magic has worked. Team is upgraded to Gold! Thanks man

Ah, the eternal question over non-playing enablers.

In the last season or two, more and more people have been putting in the cheapest goalie they can find as a permanent non-playing substitute, with someone like Joe Hart as the "proper" goalie.

These guys are the cheapest of the cheap in the game, at £2.8m. They're £0.4m less than the cheapest midfielder (who will get zero points anyway) and that money is better used upgrading further up the pitch, where the serious points are scored. You can hope to find a £3.2m defensive enabler as the season unfolds but personally I'll start off with the cheap goalie and see how it goes. And hold my powder on wasting transfers on trying to find that VFM defender.

I think I saw one team with 3 or 4 of these ultra-cheapies last season, which may be going too far.

Some people take the opposite view that you are wasting £2.8m but you pays your money, etc.

So we are up to 29 players so far with a mere 2 weeks untill the season opens....however per our discussion last year this league is open entry so we may have people joining a little later in the season....we seem to normally get up to the 70s in number....mind you about 5yrs ago when I think I first Chaired the league we had 114....which is silly just trying to find your own score or place in the league....BUT...we do have a Championship to defend...GO FISO!!!!!!!!
