That will only happen if Arsenal are not selected on the Sunday before game.

The only way it could work is if Arsenal played

From PL article: "Because of their selection on 28 December, neither Arsenal nor Crystal Palace will play on 30 December."

That has a few knock-on effects. Hopefully I have this right...

As already announced by BT Sport, Palace v Man City moves to noon on Dec 31st.
Also West Brom v Arsenal must move to Dec 31st, presumably 5:30 KO?

That then means the following fixtures can't be played on Jan 1st and will likely be played on the evening of Jan Tue 2nd or Wed 3rd, probably with one TV pick each night:
  • Chelsea v Arsenal
  • Man CIty v Watford
  • Soton v Palace
  • W Ham v W Brom

Late Dec fixtures

Post by SamD »

From C Palace:
Our Premier League home match against Manchester City will now be played on New Year's Eve (Sun 31 Dec) at midday.
The game will now be shown live on BT Sport.
This means the match away to Southampton, scheduled for Jan 1 2018, will also be moved.

From West Brom:
Albion's fixture against Arsenal at The Hawthorns - initially scheduled for Sat 30 Dec - is also set to change owing to the Gunners' TV selection on 28 Dec.

The date for all games will be confirmed, along with the selections for January, no later than next Fri 27 Oct.

Carabao Cup QF

Post by SamD »

Despite club website claims, PL TV fixture changes for end-Dec through to end-Jan are yet to be announced.

Two of the League Cup quarter-finals are set for Sky Sports coverage: https://www.efl.com/clubs-and-competiti ... efl-games/
Tue 19 Dec: Leicester v Manchester City (7:45pm)
Wed 20 Dec: Bristol City v Manchester United (8pm)

Arsenal play league games on Sat before and Fri after, so their cuptie against West Ham is likely to be on Tues.
And if clubs and the Met don't wish to see three sets of London fans mixing it on same night, Chelsea v Bournemouth will be on Wed.

I think Bournemouth playing Liverpool on the Sunday before will mean the Chelsea tie will be on the Wednesday

The PL have confirmed the already delayed announcement of New Years Eve and January games will be announced on
ASAP

Fixture changes

Post by SamD »

This thread may become more complex/useful/aggravating [delete as wished] should the Premier League agree to increase the number of live TV matches in the next tender.

The Times today reports far more than half the fixtures could be shown live on British television from 2019 under the new domestic broadcasting deal. PL chairmen will meet next week to decide how many matches should be offered in the new tender, with three options outlined:
190 matches, 200 or a maximum 210 of the 380 top-flight games played each season.

Under the existing deal, 168 games are aired each season (126 by Sky, 42 by BT) but the league has guaranteed to Ofcom, the broadcast regulator, that it will make at least 190 available in the next three-year deal, which runs from 2019 to 2022.

The Premier League is also considering introducing a prime-time Saturday night slot for live matches. There would also be occasions when two matches are screened live simultaneously so that viewers could choose which they watch.

The tender is expected to go out to broadcasters before Christmas with the auction to be completed in February 2018.

I know Arsenal have to play Sunday 26th Nov due to Europa cup commitments, but does anyone know why they are playing at 2pm? I thought Sunday matches had to be played at the same time as other matches (so 1.30 or 4.00 in this instance).

I would guess that at the time they moved it

Everton were still qualifying for UEFA so their game was announced as Sat 1230

So there was only a 4 pm kick off on Sunday

Also Liverpool could have ended up in Europa as well so the Liverpool v Chelsea game could have moved to Sunday at 12

So Burnley had no fixed time to match up with

So they must have just gone for 1400

@SamD any mention of free-to-air in that report? Would be a real PR coup but I doubt it'll happen.

1. Re: query yesterday (9th):
Burnley FC have replied by email to say "kick off time versus Arsenal is 2.00pm on Sunday 26 November".

Date & times were set on 11 Aug, ie before season began; see: https://www.premierleague.com/news/447614
Sunday 26 November
12:30* Southampton v Everton (Sky Sports)
14:00 Burnley v Arsenal (Arsenal's participation in the UEFA Europa League the previous Thursday)
16:00 Huddersfield v Man City (Sky Sports)

* Sky TV subsequently moved Sou-Eve fixture to 13:30. TFF gamers should note any transfer for 14:00 match should be made before 13:30 as there isn't a two-hour gap between start times.

2. @ Darbyand:
no mention of a free-to-air option in newspaper report on Thurs. The Times access is restricted but here's site that quotes article:

Fixture change not settled

Post by SamD »

Sunday 31 December
12:00 Crystal Palace v Man City (BT)
* 14:15 Spurs v West Ham (Sky)
16:30 West Brom v Arsenal (Sky)

* From Friday's London Evening Standard [24 Nov]:
Tottenham’s match against West Ham on New Year’s Eve could yet be rearranged, with both clubs and the Premier League frustrated at delays in confirming the fixture. The game is yet to be signed off by the safety advisory group — made-up of representatives of Spurs, Brent Council and the police, ambulance and fire services — amid transport concerns.

Transport for London traditionally offers free travel up to 4.30am on New Year’s Day and there is concern that up to 85,000 supporters travelling to Wembley for a high-risk London derby will put too much strain on TFL staff and the British Transport Police. No tickets have yet been put on sale and last night Spurs and the Premier League released a joint statement, apologising to supporters.

From here: https://twitter.com/sistoney67/status/9 ... 0024873984

Confirmed @SpursOfficial v @WestHamUtd will be on 4 Jan (8pm). Wembley Safety Advisory Group told clubs they would limit capacity to 43,000 if game had gone ahead on New Year's Eve as planned. This date maintains 2 day gap to matches on 2 Jan, so teams don't get advantage.

Why not play it on Sat at 1230 ???

Because Sky want to show Celtic

FFS

This sets a bad precedent

The TV Companies have moved a game to ANOTHER Gameweek for no reason

Is actually a significant ADVANTAGE to the 2 teams as it shifts the match to the safe side of the 5 yellows deadline. Other teams' players having to survive one extra game.

And they get a breather over Christmas and a shorter gap before their fa cup game, which they might have been less fussed about. Their respective opponents on the 2nd Jan can feel well pissed off.

And those of us playing TFF and clued up get some great daisy chaining opportunities! Nice 3 for 0s already spotted.

FPLers get 0GWs and DGWs or whatever they are called too so should be happy to be able to use their skills to beat the masses.
