Looks like England have scrapped the August friendly so assume Premier league will be gap free until September?

Good news for whoever finishes 4th in Prem as CL qualifiers will be on 18/19 and 25/26 August so they'll have a few games under their belt.

Not England on its own, there is now no August international matchday at all worldwide.

Would make sense if the stated aim is to get the season over to give England time to prepare for the Euros.

Good for fans too. You're often gagging for club games after a tournament free summer.

Tournament free?! Copa America, Euro Under 21s, Women's World Cup, and another round of Euro qualifiers and friendlies. It won't feel like we've had a break at all once pre-season kicks off in July :D

4 week gap between Fa Cup semis and final seems pretty slim.

Manchester City ask Premier League for opening-day away game as they expand their stadium. City want extra time as they add 6,000 seats to take capacity to more than 55,000 and make the Etihad the top-flight's third biggest ground.

Talks between City and the Premier League are ongoing, with fixtures for new Premier League season set to be released at 9am, Wed 17 June.

"The City is yours (x2)
26,000 empty seats
Are you eff sure?"

More seriously, I'm guessing there's no midweek fixtures that week as it would only buy them 3 or 4 extra days.

If Sky/BT continue trend of recent years, half of these fixtures will be moved over opening weekend of Premier League, Sat-Mon 8-10 Aug:
  • Arsenal v West Ham
    Bournemouth v Aston Villa
    Chelsea v Swansea
    Everton v Watford
    Leicester v Sunderland
    Manchester United v Tottenham
    Newcastle v Southampton
    Norwich v Crystal Palace
    Stoke v Liverpool
    West Bromwich v Manchester City
Last season, the first matches of the so-called big five - Chel, MC, Arsl, MU, Liv - were rearranged on Mon 14 July for live TV. Expect same club picks again?

But on the Premier League site I found this

http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matc ... ained.html

The first changes take place when our UK broadcast partners announce their opening group of live TV matches. This happens in early July and contains broadcast alterations for the first two months of the season (August and September).

TV matches for October and November should be confirmed and announced in early August.

For fixtures from December onwards, live TV matches are mostly confirmed on a month-by-month basis.

The Premier League will seek to confirm live TV matches approximately five or six weeks prior to the start of the month in question.

For example, December selections are typically confirmed in mid-October.

"United's clash with Spurs at Old Trafford will be screened live on BT Sport at 12.45pm on Saturday, August 8....In what is arguably its strongest start ever to a campaign, BT will also show United v Newcastle next month, in between their two-legged Champions League play-off round on August 18/19 and August 25/26."

Looks like I'd better sort out a BT Sport subscription as they'll have those CL play-off games too.

Edit the Villa game has been moved to Friday 14 August (my birthday) as there's an edl rally or something similar the next day.

That's going to cause havoc with a lot of people's FF routines! Could be a good few forced to set their FPL teams on the Thursday with little/ no team news for the w/e?
