Man City Fixture Pile Up Only due to UEFA

Post by Judio »

So Man City have 2 games to arrange now, Man United and Sunderland

UEFA have taken 4 weeks to play 1 round of Champions League Games

On 2 of these Man City are NOT playing

So can Man City play Sunderland on Feb 26th ??

NO Because UEFA Dont Want A PREMIER LEAGUE GAME ON CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEEKS !!!!

I hope the Premier League put their foot down and tell Platini what we think of him !!!

UEFA will say don't have Cup replays, that's why.

Interesting that there are no more domestic games scheduled for midweek for the rest of the season  Liverpool, for example, only play at weekends between now and May. There aren't even extra games at Easter.

Will obviously be a few cup replays and displaced games from postponements and cup weekends but that is it.

No they can't cos Chelsea are playing CL that week. A City-Chelsea replay would probably have to be on QF weekend.

Chelsea could move their CL game to make way for an FA Cup replay.

Would love to see Platini's face......

Will we see at least one Tuesday-Thursday-Sunday week for City then? They will be really hoping not to get another FA Cup replay...

Successful clubs moaning about fixture congestion always raises my ire.

They should be shite like Ipswich if they do not want congestion

But the point is that the congestion is not caused by success here

There are 2 free weeks for Man City and Sunderland to play

But UEFA are causing the pile up !!!

Why let facts get in the way of a mini-rant?

However, Citeh like\want\need the CL cash and if exclusivity, or no top flight league games, is part of the cash revenue, then tough....

(Some may question need, but let's pretend FFP means something and they need that revenue to fund the "wages".)

Taking 8 nights to get through one round of games is a tad OTT especially when it writes off all league games.

Not mention that it takes away a potential platform for Europa Leagues games to be given exposure without the shadow of the CL.

Don't they get the wonderful, exclusive platform of Thursday nights (Channel 5)?

But it does feel like an anti-climax, doesn't it?

Possible solution to the MC fixture pile-up?

Wed 15 Apr - Villa (h)

Fri 2 May - Everton (a) - assuming City are not in CL semis
Mon 5 May (or Tue 6) - Sunderland (h)
Thu 8 May - Liverpool (a) - assuming City get to the SF of the FAC

Sun 11 May West Ham (h)

[edit] might mean moving the Man U v Sunderland game to Friday 2 May also, to allow the Monday date against City? Bit harsh on Sunderland fans though to have Fri-Mon away games in Manchester

... or potentially the Palace v Liverpool one (if you swap Sunderland and Liverpool in the above schedule)

Could you do something similar moving a couple of games forward to 4 April to reschedule another on the 7th?

UEFA RULE is confirmed

But Bruce was left fuming as he now takes his team to Cardiff on Saturday in the Premier League, then must tackle this replay barely 48 hours later.

Bruce said: "Its quite a bizarre one, for them to say to the FA that we can't play on the same night as the Champions League.

"I don't think there will be many tuning out of Olympiakos against Manchester United to tune into Hull City and Brighton.

"I find that ridiculous. Surely we can play on the same night as the Champions League, you would have thought.

Potentially yes, e.g.

Fri 4 April - City v Soton; AV v Fulham
Mon 7 April City v AV

However... should City progress in the CL, which is possible, we may be playing Weds 2nd Apr in the CL, just 2 days before the Fri fixture. And we won't know the result of the Barca tie and subsequent fixtures until mid- or late-March.

Unfortunately the free slot week in April follows the FAC SF weekend and there's no way ITV/BTS will allow one of them to be on a Friday or Monday night.
