Matterface on Talksport just now said that Southampton are going to postpone a Prem game to fit in the Shewsbury cup tie. I can only assume that will be Leeds on the 20th which keeps the Cup on schedule??

Cup impact

Post by SamD »

FA Cup quarter-finals on 20-21 March (two posts above) will cause seven Premier League matches originally scheduled for that weekend to be moved.

This means a total of 11 league fixtures now need new dates:
Aston Villa v Everton
Aston Villa v Spurs
Burnley v Leicester
Crystal Palace v Man Utd
Fulham v Spurs
Liverpool v Chelsea
Man City v Southampton
Man City v Wolves
Sheffield Utd v Aston Villa
Spurs v Southampton
West Brom v Everton

Clubs in bold are currently in Champions/Europa League. FA Cup semis and Final will add to the PL backlog.

Three further league matches have already been slotted alongside midweek CL/EL ties this Wed 17 Feb and next Tues 23 Feb. It's probable that more PL games will move into future UEFA midweek dates; eg Villa against Everton and Sheff Utd; Everton at West Brom.

The calendar also holds three other free midweek dates: Tue-Thu 2-4 March; 20-22 Apr; 18-20 May.

The weekend of 21st March is Cup weekend so that weekend now consists of 3 original league games left + one rearranged + 4 cup games (15 teams in action). Think the other 7 games from that weekend are all/most of that 7 from 2-4 March. Man City only team with bonus games on 2 midweeks plus cup game on 21st weekend.

Confused? You will be...

Two for one

Post by SamD »

Following the announcement that spectators will be allowed in stadia for the final round of league matches on Sun 23 May, The Times claims:

The Premier League has found a solution to ensure all of its clubs can have 10,000 fans back for one home game before the end of the season by shifting a midweek round of matches in May until later in the month.

Talks have already taken place with broadcasters about delaying the ten matches due to be played on May 11 and 12 by a week to May 18 and 19 — which would be after the government’s fixed date of May 17 for the return of supporters. It would mean the 36th round of games becoming the 37th and penultimate round, and although all options are being considered the plan has emerged as the favoured solution.

Note - there could be a fixture change (or more?) next saturday (17th).

Prince Philip's funeral is at 3pm which clashes with Wolves v Sheff U.

The football league are moving their games so I assume this one will shift too.

MAN UNITED'S FIXTURES IN MAY

6 MAY UEFA thing
9 May: Aston Villa (A) - 14:05 BST
11 May: Leicester (H) - 18:00 BST
13 May: Liverpool (H) - 20:15 BST

Should be bonus game opportunities galore in any FF game but the rotation will surely be massive.
