According to T&Cs, You will get 12 transfers for the group stage of the competition, and then a new allocation of eight transfers for each knockout phase of the competition. Transfers do not carry over.

So I need to use up my 12 transfers today or do I have until the start of the knockout stage to use them.
My guess is I need to use them up today.

Hmm, good question. I haven't used all of mine on that basis but I might as well make those that I need anyway as if I need to make more after the group stages I'll have to and whether they get taken from the 12 or the 8 doesn't matter.

Edit: from the How to play page:
* The transfer allocation will be reset and any change to the total transfer budget will be made when the last game of the round has been played.
So I guess we can make more transfers after the game period finishes but they obviously won't take effect until the next round. That's assuming we can trust this gem:
There is ONE deadline for every gameweek. This deadline is the first kick-off of the game round. Any changes to your team (substitutions, transfers, formations) will come into effect for the gameweek selected. REST OF SENTENCE REMOVED. If you don’t make any changes to your team the current team will continue to score points for you. The gameweek fixtures are displayed to the right of your pitch.

Had emailed their support at the same time. You can use transfers until the end of the game round. :)
