Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
I took Ederson out after reading this thread but I think I'll put him back in. I'm useless really.

Kepa bought himself out of his contract now so he can join chelsea.
Just to add to the keeper selection headache

The potential 40-50 points more a city, Utd or Liverpool keeper could get you is worth more than 0.5-1 mil surely

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
I doubt the points difference would be that many. I’d say they’d be pretty much even or atleast within 15/20 points. Remember Chelsea have been a decent club defensively with the few exceptions

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
If he’s 3m then worth it, 3.5 is too close to Ederson/Alisson not to go with them as safer and higher scoring picks. For me anyway.

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
The extra savings from picking a cheep keeper is about freeing up cash elsewhere in the team and allowing more flexibility in the other positions and not restricting you as the season progresses .

Usually the money you save doesn’t give you a significant upgrade

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
For me even a saving of 0.5m makes all the difference . How many times have you tried drafting in someone only to find you’re 0.5m short ?

I may have missed the point but I have put most of my Ederson's back in.

Think I'm settled on Hart but I'm not at all comfortable with it

He is, and goalkeepers are generally an area that's let me down in the past, but his price and opening fixtures (if he plays them) are so tempting

Don't think Heaton is fit to feature yet . If Hart starts it will be his place to lose . Heaton may start league cup or FA cup games ?

So Cech gets the nod over Leno.
Interesting to see how this one develops over the season

Cech looks a disaster - nearly kicked the ball into his own goal

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
That moment was terrible but in general he has been good today.
Couldn't do much with the goal with 3 players in front of him.
Made a few good saves. Will judge at the end of the season but it seems he is number 1 for the time being at least.

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
Dear all,
On the 2nd September 2018, I would like to take everything positive I said about Petr Cech back (cue about 3 clean sheets on the trot next month lol). He's terrible with his feet putting us under unnecessary pressure. It isn't his fault but he just isn't cut out for it.
That Arsenal defence is absolutely shocking. Therefore clean sheets now look out of the question.
Granit Xhaka offers no protection to that back 4 and should be dropped for Torreria.
Emerys set up clearly isn't defensive meaning more 3-2s look on the cards.
I'd rather call something before it happens and get it wrong than to call it after the occasion. Live and learn. Just a relief for 3 points today

As I said during our debates if I get it wrong I will hold the hands up have no issues.
McKenzie is irrelevant. He wouldn't back himself enough to play against me even when I was offering to pay his entrance

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
You've embarrassed yourself silly here cclem, getting a call wrong is no big deal, I got Mahrez wrong, we all make wrong calls.
But all you've done is emphasise how bruised your ego is by challenging me to a mini league which proves f*** all
I'm honestly not sure how many times I have to school you on this issue, are you going to challenge everyone to a mini league every single time somebody says your opinion is cack now?
I could beat you by a landslide, you could beat me by a landslide, and it would mean Sweet FA in regards to whether or not Petr Cech was a bargain or not, Jesus Christ why is that so difficult for you to understand
Just accept it, your 2m bargain has 2 points after 4 games and no amount of w1lly waving with mini leagues chalenges will ever bare any relevance to this debate which is now officially closed, Petr Cech is s***
And remember pal, you were slating Sokratis pre season, then when this bargain keeper quote came up, all of a sudden your tune changed and Emery was going to sort everything out

Re: Why pick an Expensive Goalkeeper?
Not bruised at all. Otherwise I wouldn't admit I was wrong and let it roll another while.
Neither have I embarrassed myself. I made a call. I got it wrong. Big deal.
Plus why would I really worry about what 30-40 strangers think about my suggestion. Not like I know anybody here.
I gave my reasons and got some of the calls right. I did expect at least 1 clean sheet against West ham or Cardiff which would have made things different.
Live and learn.

You haven't embarassed yourself because you made a wrong call, which is why I said I made a wrong call with Mahre), everyone does.
But if you can't recognise that challenging someone to a season long competition when someone merely disagrees with your opinion is not embarrassing or doesn't look like you have a bruised ego than I really can't say anymore.

Go tell the missus cclem345 was wrong about Cech and you were right. It's the small victories in life that make the giant wins maybe you'll pick up the big money at the end of the season
