The Shawshank Redemption: so good, you had to list it twice

ha ha. thanks. i have replaced the second Shawshank Redemption with the Thomas Crown Affair. the duplication with due to the process by which I compiled the list. essentially, I copied all the nominated films from the Movies World Cup into a spreadsheet and removed the duplicates (though I missed a few). that left 1000+ movies. i then tagged all the movies that i fancied leaving me about 300. i then tagged about 30 of the 300 that i absolutely had to have in my DVD collection. these were the candidates for the top 30 which i then sorted according to how often i would want to watch them in a month say without getting bored. that completed the ranking for the first 30. i repeated the process on the remaining films from the 300 until i had about 110 films. without touching the top 30, i then eliminiated 10 films to end up with 100. ranking the films didn't take too long - just about an hour and it was good fun. this process worked for me because i would have placed some high ranking films lower and some lower ranking films higher. for example the Jungle Book would have been in the top 20 but i don't really have the urge to watch it now though i'd like to be able to watch it once in a while. however, i really want to watch Jumanji which i have watched only once in the past few years. wierd.
edit
i added about 20 wildcard movies not in the movies world cup list to the one i used. a few of them made it into the final list.

I can't even imagine being able to list my top 20 let alone 100. I wouldn't even know where to start and I struggle to remember films from last week let alone 10 years ago.

i've posted my method. i hope it helps. let me know if you're interested in the list of films i used. there's always imdb too. i guess it depends on your favourite genres...
