Walkers injury and VDV may not keep them out

Dzeko seems to appear on one of the lists every time. Maybe due a good run in this window so he'll be back on the IN list at the final window :D

I've being going back and forth for 2 weeks saying Bale, Gerrard, Bale Gerrard. Looks like the votes have been couinted and the results are in, and Bale is the winner. Will probably put him in for Nani now (who's also near the top of the out pile).

Isn't there supposed to be some sort of psychic thing that happens if you get many people trying to guess something, odds are the largest percentage will be right. Either that or it's Paul the Octopus interfering. In reality thought it's why odds have to change on betting sites now, because it really works. 100's of people jump on a bet, so the odds change to reflect that.

Anyway, Bale being most picked is not the REAL reason I will pick Bale, but just the final decider on a debate in my own head of who to pick.

I will keep Rooney though. After Van Persie's hat trick I will probably move from 2nd to about 6th in the works league ( why did I gamble on Strridge over Van Persie at last window lol) I will of course need to bring Van Persie in now because almost everyone else has him, so it's like negative points for me every time he plays. I just hope Rooney will score more than Aguero, that almost everyone else has too. Gotta take SOME gamble if I'm behind.

Dont the odds at the bookies change so that the bookie can hedge its exposure to certain bets rather than a belief that the more people that believe something the more likely it is to be true?

Theres also the fact that if you do what everyone else does, and it works out well, you'll still not catch the leaders, but if you do something different (even if its less likely to do well) and it does do well, then your more likely to win  Thats why I'm not bringing in Dempsey and hoping he goes quiet, and bringing in Jones hoping he refinds form. So I'd be tempted to leave Nani in or bring Gerrard in instead of Bale. But that said i do think Bale will do well

I was also thinking of taking out Dempsey. He's surely got to stop scoring soon hasn't he :?

Only thing is that Fulham have quite a good fixture list in the next window. I really want to bring in Oxy Chamberlain. Maybe I could bring him in for Mata (I don't want to drop Bale at the moment).

It's true. I seen it on TV and everything lol.

Really though- They were talking to the big Las Vegas casinos about this and they knew all about it. It was some program about numbers and Maths or something. What was also true is, you know that game where you guess the number of marbles in a big jar? If you let 1000 people have a guess then the average result zeroed in to be within less than 1% of the actual answer. Every time.

Anyway. Back to the real world, and most people have Joe Hart. I brought in Vorm last window so That allows me to have the extra cash spent on a midfielder. My gamble this window will be that that extra midfielder should catch me up a bit at a time over the next few games. I'l have Mata, Dempsey and Bale. That should be better ( on paper) than most midfiels, and then if Rooney scores more than Suarez or Aguero then I should shoot back up as there wont be those 'negative points' every time Van Persie scores. Aftter his hat trick there will probably be about 50 points to catch up on now. There was a bit of daylight between me in second at the last window too, now I'll be 6th or thereabouts:( but points wise there wont be too much in it.

I remember covering something similar to this in a stats lecture, but this is a different situation where ppl are biased and plus theres no accounting for injuries, bad ratings, loss of form etc. I had written a longer reply but my laptop froze up and i lost it :( lol not saying you cant use it as a quide to who might do well, i just wouldnt put too much faith in it. And keep in mind that alot of transfers are ppl converting to weekend attempts so the transfer stats will be affected by that

Yeah I'm not saying that's how I chose players, because I know it doesn't really apply in this situation. It's not like the fixed number of marbles, there are so many factors to a game of football. BUT I was 50/50 and coming round to Bale anyway and then I see he's the top incoming transfer so I thought I might as well go for him if so many others think it's worth it. The stats thing was a bit of a joke really.

BUT I do have an idea for next season now though lol. I bet you can guess:)

I wonder what would happen if I chose my team at the beginning of the season based on the most popular picks. Obviously there might need to be give and take based on the price of players. Then at every transfer window drop the 3 most popular outgoing and bring in the 3 most popular incoming etc.... I bet some transfers would probably seem REALLY dumb at the time of doing it, but they'd have to be done. I suppose with 20/20 hindsight it would be no more dumb than some of the transfers I have made with full knowledge thinking they were good ones:)

I bet loads of people could try this and there would still be lots of combinations of different teams, because of the player cost limitations and then injuries etc at transfer window time. It would be an interesting experiment to see how well the team(s) did.

This is probably where someone replies to say they have already done this or know of it being done I suppose:) But I think I will still give it a try with a team next year. Maybe even for the Euro's.

Interesting idea, I'd be quite interested to try the opposite, bringing in 3 of the most transfered out players (obviously excluding the injured ones)

Dzeko suddenly less popular after my prophecy! Seem to be a lot of rash decisions being made based on injuries and suspensions that have cleared up and easy runs of fixtures that have finished.

I've added Balotelli, Sessengnon and Dempsey and taken out RVP, Lampard and someone cheap in many of my teams. But I am doing very badly!

I've taken out Verm, Sczes and Ba (I think Papa Cisse will take some of the points off him)

And put in Hart (obvious choice I know), Enrique and Suarez.

Hart and Enrique will mirror what most people in the top 100 have got, but I'm hoping Suarez will not be as popular.

Funny you should mention that, I had a crack at it at the weekend I made a couple of cock ups but I did 2 teams. 1 began with my starting 11 and the other in the way you suggested, but I picked 6 out of the 10 most popular.

I managed to get my starting 11 up to 1382pts which would have put me in 18th overall before last weekends games and the other would have been on 1338pts which wouldn't have put me in the top 100, but would certainly have put me top of my mini league at work. I can't help thinking though that my selections were severly skewered by hindsight. I had Lampard in my starting 11 and was reluctant to let him go in case he came good, and yet with hindsight he was the first player to get the boot.

Like I said at the start I made a couple of cock ups, I picked Mata at TW1 when he wasn't on the final list but he did appear on it at one point and I picked BAE for TW3, but again in hindsight probably would of had him, because of Spurs extra games. I think I will look at this again when Zarch updates his spreadsheet with this seasons scores, because it is a bit of a grind going through each players list and adding the points up and can't say for certain if I didn't tally something up incorrectly.

All in all it's worth a crack but I don't think it's a guarantee for success. You would probably have to get off to a good start and use this to improve your position
