After a bit of advice please gents...

Its my first time playing SSFL and after a couple of weeks I have a team which is actually in a pretty good position, it's on 134 points and in 236th position.

The thing is I have never played a FF game without the restrictions of a transfer window. I still have my 30 transfers left and am not really sure what approach I should be taking. At this stage in the game should I be saving my transfers for injured or suspended players only, or can I afford to make a few changes this early on? There are certainly a couple of players I would like to bring in.

I imagine there are plenty of different opinions on this but any advice would be much appreciated.

I like to save most of my transfers for later on, however to win I think you will have to make some early transfers to make sure you get players into your team just before they hit form, as once they hit form everyone else will have them too.

I haven't had a great deal of success on this game but I'm definitely improving ! So here's my thoughts, for what they're worth.

Give or take a couple of weeks at the beginning and end of the season, the game lasts for about 10 months, which averages out at 3 transfers per month. Initially, I would suggest you use your transfers sparingly (injuries, suspensions, bringing in "hot" players for "not" players).

If you make it to January with 20+ transfers intact, you're in a good position for the run-in. This is when FA Cup involvement and postponed games start to wreak havoc with the fixture list and most of the 2 and 3-for-1's occur. (It's a shame that you can only have one captain per week now ). February to April is usually where I charge up the leaderboard, before realising that I'm too far behind to get anywhere near the top positions. This is usually due to me forgetting to change my captain, or plumping for the defender who is "guaranteed" a clean sheet and probable assists (Mr Baines !!).

Did think about being in with a chance for this months prize. Will have to see how my team gets on today and if I'm right up there then I guess its worth giving it a shot.

The real annoying thing is that if I had made Silva captain instead of Rooney I would be top!!!

At this stage, I don't think I would be going for a monthly prize - you are in 236th position. Don't wreck your team long term. Been there, done that . Maybe if you were top 50 perhaps. You have made a good start, so consolidate rather than go mad would be my advice. You have Silver and Rooney which many don't.

Also, the first month in this game actually ends at the end of September.

Might be worth it though, as the people above you may have already used their 5 transfers for the month. I know for certain that the person in first place has. Therefore you may have an additional 5 transfers to play around with to try and make the monthly prize than most of the people currently sitting above you in the monthly standings.
