Mrs Jeffers is off to Egypt for a week, so I need some entertainment whilst she is away. Can anyone recommend a good film?
Please post below one film you recommend that just has to be seen at some stage.

What you after Jeffers? An all-time classic or something recent?

I'd go for something recent if you've not had a chance to catch any of the below. Top 3 in bold, altho I could stick them all in bold to be fair  :

- No Country for Old Men
- In Bruges
- City of God
- Zodiac
- O Brother Where Art Thou
- Up In The Air
- The Air I Breathe

Or treat yourself to some Denzel Washington:

- American Gangster
- Inside Man
- The Book of Eli
- The Manchurian Candidate
- Training Day
- Man on Fire
- Deja Vu

Not seen any of those, so will check them out. Cheers.

Also going to have a look at Goodfellas, memento, Hostel 2, good bad & ugly and the usual suspects.

Kick Ass is out on dvd today, breathless action, great story. Excellent performances from Mark Strong and Nic Cage, one of the best movies I have seen lately. (best viewed on a big wide screen in blu ray, not released until 6th sept.)

All excellent films - you'll enjoy them. Hostel 2 not quite in the same league but only because it's a gore shocker rather than a film likely to be getting any Oscars.

If you fancy something really trivial to pass the time and give you a laugh or two...

Kenny - a low budget comedy made in Australia about a guy who works for a company that supplies portaloos to venues hosting events.

A really enjoyable movie that made me lol several times :D

If you have Sky its currently available on anytime TV but be quick as its only available until 'last chance'

:D

Why don't we get some-one (say, Barry) to run a films-type competition? We could call it "The World cup of films" or something similar?

Anyone fancy pm'ing him and asking if he's up for it?

That would give a good list of films.

Couple of real classics, one is Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, this was on one of the backwater channels only last week. Not seen it for about 10 years, but watched it all and was rivetted. The other is Used Cars which has not been on for quite a while. Both are very entertaining especially in the way the characters interact.
Anyhows I would still pick Kick Ass.

Debbie Does Dallas... Never seen it myself but apparently it's quite good.

Depends what mood you are in. I watched Schindler's List again the other night and I'll vouch for Miles T's suggestion of The Pianist. Real thought provoking stuff.

I thought "In Bruges" was disappointing after a good start, although I did go and visit Bruges not long after - great place 8-) . No Country for Old Men just has a bizarre ending and avoid Plop Fiction - the worst film ever made (although Reservoir Dogs is quality)

You basically can't go wrong with a Clint Western or a De Niro Gangster fim.

Of the homemade films, soap and Quadrophenia are quality, as is Trainspotting.

edit Not soap but 5cum
