Launching January 3rd, if you've used your transfers you can still enjoy Telegraph Fantasy Football by playing for free in the Tinkerman League. There is a new game every week and unlimited transfers!

So I'm about to waste all my transfers in a team to get it into this league, anyone got any idea as to how it works exactly.

Do I need to end up with 11 players ready for the games on Jan 3rd.

Tottenham Hotspur v West Bromwich Albion
Wigan Athletic v Sunderland
Manchester City v Liverpool

and then make more transfers after that for the games on Jan 4th

Everton v Bolton Wanderers
Newcastle United v Manchester United

Or what?????

No one seems to be entirely sure how it'll work in terms of interface, ie will there be another selection webpage for Tinkerman. But yes, a team for each day is required.

I think it is a weekly contest so you can happily forget about it in weeks when you can't be bothered.
If you are bothered you just tweak your team to get 11 playing each and every matchday in a particular week.

I've got a couple of ex-monthlies that I'll be doing this for. Might add more as season-long / divisional teams fail before May.

There is going to be a lot of competition for a relatively small prize so I'm not exactly focussing on it.

From the T+Cs

Tinkerman League
12.14 From Tuesday, January 3, 2012, teams that have used their allowance of 30 transfers will be automatically entered into the Tinkerman League. The Tinkerman League is a weekly competition in which eligible Managers can make unlimited transfers (subject to the same daily deadlines described in rule 10, Transfers). The Manager whose team has scored the most points at the end of each scoring week will win £100. Managers’ scores are reset to zero on a weekly basis in the Tinkerman League. Teams entered into the Tinkerman League will continue to compete in the overall TFF Competition for the remainder of the Season with the Final XI i.e. the eleven players that were selected once the 30th and final available transfer was made. There is no limit to the number of eligible teams a Manager may have competing in the Tinkerman League. There is no limit to the number of weekly prizes that can be won by an individual Manager during the Tinkerman League. In the event of a tie, the terms of the section headed Tie Break for Cash Prizes will apply. Managers will not be able to access or make transfers to Tinkerman League teams via the official Telegraph Fantasy Football Mobile App(s).

:(

Is that newly added?? I guess it is to be expected based on the set up of the app.

Will minimise how seriously I play some weeks when I am out and about but at least you can do transfers in advance and haven't lost anything if they don't start.

Ok cool, so unlimited transfers daily as long as they're before the first kick off of the day.

Still can't work out if the last transfers I use need to get my team ready for the 3rd or whether on that day I can get more.

I'm off to facebook TFF...........will report back!

Who cares what your last transfers are (other than fixing your team for season long points and doing it before the deadline) - you just change them in your tinkerman team. Do it every 5 minutes if you want.

Is the tinkerman league exclusively for those who use all their transfers by Jan 3rd? Or can you join the league when you have used all your transfers up by the end of Jan or Feb?

I can't quite work out a couple of my teams, they could still be worth saving in the main league (and in superleagues) so I'm not sure if I should just use all the transfers now to get in the tinker league instead.

My question above goes along with what you said above, as you seem to be saying that you will add teams to the tinkerman league AFTER Jan 3rd. Can you do that? Or does your team HAVE to have used all its transfers on Jan 3rd?

Reading the rules quoted above my assumption is probably based on the first word "from..."

I interpreted it differently meaning you had to have zero transfers left on the 3rd.

Your way makes sense too.

Clarification needed from TFF towers I think.

It does say "From" not "On".

It has to be an ongoing thing then otherwise there's going to be a lot of complaints.

I checked this with them, and it is definitely "from", and not "on".

This was the response...

Thank you for your recent correspondence.

Teams that have used up all 30 of their transfers by January 3rd will be entered into the league straight away and thereafter teams will enter the Tinkerman League as soon as they have used their 30 transfers.

Once a team has used its 30 transfers it will start scoring in the Tinkerman League from the next event.

Well that is a really cool feature. Well done TFF.

I must admit to thinking that it had meant "on".

Thanks for the clarification Des.

That's what I like about FISO, many other sites are just wide boys banging on about who is the first person to the 900 club or, how much champers they have all bought to celebrity their win in May.

Thanks Des for the clarification on this.

Now I can see where all my teams are after the divisional splits, and if a team is high in a division, I keep them going, if they are low, I can ruin it and go in the tinkerman league. Could be interesting!

I wonder how many people out there are reading it "on" Jan 3rd and will use all their transfers just to make sure they are in the tinkerman league?!

All team scores in the divisionals are reset to 0 this year.

I see the eligible Tinkerman teams now appear separately on the Summary page below your normal teams (including those tinkered out).

I used my 30th transfer in one team today but it didn't appear at the bottom at the time. It is there now. Maybe because the transfer deadline has passed???

Maybe that will mean you can't use your 30th transfer in a team and, on the same day, start playing the Tinkerman game.

This is an interesting new side game but I can't help worrying about it's effect on the creaking TFF servers - loads of people making eleven last minute transfers every match day will surely take it's toil....?

This is intriguing. I hadn't spotted it before and IF it is new it becomes VERY intriguing.

T&Cs section on Tinkerman league:

12. 15 TMG may introduce additional prizes during the Competition. These will be in addition to the prizes outlined above. In the event that TMG does introduce additional prizes, it will ensure that Managers are made aware of any additional terms and conditions as may be applicable.

I think they've always had this clause. I've certainly read it before, however this year they've inserted it at the end of the Tinkerman summary.

I don't think it's peculiar to this aspect of the game, just lazy proofreading.

As always, I may be wrong.

My thoughts as well, what happens later in the season when many more teams can play, you could have Thousands of teams making eleven transfers.
Although saying this im not sure I will have the time or inclination to sit and enter every eligable team every week, currently have 25 teams with zero transfers left. The thought of entering 25 different combinations of the 3 games on the the 3rd jan does not fill me with joy, and if I do i feel will distract me from looking at my normal year long teams.
Some players with hundreds of used teams will surely spend the time and cover nearly all bases ensuring they win this side comp.
