Let me introduce you all to a superb game (both on the board and online). Very strategic, quick and fun. I won't try to explain the rules here - just see for yourselves.

www.daysofwonder.com

I became the official TTR four player 2008 online world champion yesterday 8-)

Another game that's taking up a lot of time at the moment is Settlers of Catan. Nice site for playing it (under the name of explorers) is here...

There must be some world champions at Fantasy football lurking somewhere here.

I have been playing another statergy game called CARCASSONNE, no available at borders and waterstones. A great game with expansions, 2 - 4 players.

I have also got Settlers of Catan, San Juan (an adaptation of Puerto Rice) and Santa Fe Trails a similar game to Ticket to Ride. I havn't played Settlers of Catan yet, but i do love these type of games, they make monopoly look like a kids game.

You can also play Carcassonne online, as well as many more

Ticket to Ride is without a doubt the best board game I've come across. The thing that singles it out for me is that you can never be sure who's won until the end of the game and everyone reveals the points they've gained. Its also really easy to learn, and despite being quite tactical, can usually be played by newcomers & experienced players without being completely unbalanced.

well done Steph...:D

I enjoy Ticket to Ride (and variants), Carcassone (and variants), Acquire, San Juan, Settlers of Catan, Modern Art, Pitch Car, Memoir 44...etc. etc. (I have too many - I haven't even opened some... ).

I love these sort of games - perfect on a long winters evening with a good group of friends, beers and a dram or two to round off the night.

I seem to recall Fancydan is a bit of a Board Games afficionado and there were others as well - we should start a usergroup to share good games and arrange for a bit of online play...

Good Games link for anyone interested in widening their repertoire...

I keep coming third and fourth in Settlers of Catan world championship qualifiers. Only the winner gets to represent Britain. :(

Ticket to Ride Europe is my favourite board game though.

Also enjoy Power Grid, Notre Dam, Carcassonne etc.

Not keen on Peuto Rico. Winning or losing is taken too much out of your own hands.

Going to learn Agricola on Thursday.

Agricola turns out to be a lot like Caylus: Magna Carta. I quite enjoyed the first play but I don't think it will become on of my favourites.

Well remembered X-Man, I love a good board game and frequently get together with friends to try out new purchases and a few old faves. I never got on with Settlers, though, I always place badly at the start and never seem to manage to build anything. And I found Ticket to Ride fairly underwhelming considering how much hype it's had.

One game I've really enjoyed recently is Kingsburg, similar in some ways to Settlers in that it's about managing wood, stone etc. to build buildings but you get the resources based on rolling dice - but it's not as random as that may sound. Well worth checking out:

But probably my all-time fave is still Robo Rally, racing robots around a factory floor - top nerdy thrills. It's been recently re-released:

I play a few games online at www.spielbyweb.com , if anyone's interested.

The online Ticket to Ride world cup is coming up in a few weeks time. We need one or two more UK players.

If anyone here is interested and thinks they can hold their own against the best at 2 player US map then send me a pm. You would need to hold or buy an online subscription to the game. You will also need to arrange to play one 2 hour match every week or every other week for about 6-10 weeks.

for more info follow links here...

edit: NC = Nations Cup (info under NC 2008)

I have a great record in 3-5 player games on the European map but I don't play two player so much and never on the US map.

Good luck - I hope you get the tickets you need and timely widl cards.

Recently I have mostly been playing 'On The Underground' and sometimes 'Small World'.

This year I have finally won the Settlers of Catan UK Championships and so will be off to Castle Wildenstein (Germany) in September to represent the UK in the World Settlers of Catan Championship. :D
