Thurs 9pm, BBC2.

Anyone been watching this? Just caught up with episode 3.

The best thing the bbc have made in years. Crime lord gets killed and its the search for the killer & filling the void he left. The good guys may be bad and vice versa... Christopher Eccleston is always good but Tim Spalls son does a hell of a psychopath. ITV must cry when they see drama like this.

Episode 1, Iplayer

Yes, seen two so far and it's very good. Slow, perhaps too slow at times but has humour and a great cast. Good stuff.

It's the only current programme which is a must-see for both Mrs Striker and myself.

Only seen the first one so far. Wasn't overly impressed but will give it a chance to get going.

Better than Vera anyway....

It is worth persevering with, imho.......

I am really enjoying it. It is slow but intriguing enough to hold my interest.

One minus point - the part where the female cop had a Mexican stand off with Paddy Maguire armed with only a coat hanger was an embarrassment to all concerned.

Close up it might (and I stress the word might) have been effective but her continuing to brandish it as she was slowly backing off was painful to watch.

You brought a coat hanger to a gunfight

Watched first 3 now and am hooked in. Spall Jr has been deliciously OTT.

Not convinced by the supposed 'who is good and who is bad' stuff. Errr the drug dealers are all bad and 1 cop is clearly bad. Gabriel will turn out good but his boss could be dodgy.

And why aren't the drug squad all over the case?

Some interesting comments from rafe spall on the part -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressr ... ine7.shtml

He is really creepy, it finally clicked, what he reminded me of - some of the time, the character lapses into a david walliams camp diva. Usually just after threatening to murder a baby. Brrrr, gives me the judders.

He also sounds like Ricky Gervais at times, the squeaky voice where he is takng the piss out of Karl (not Beckford) or similar.

This didn't quite live up to the early promise did it? Worth watching but won't be remembered as a 'classic'.

All got a bit murky and complicated with too many characters coming in adding new strands to the storyline (threads to the rope?) at the loss of screen time of those people you already 'knew', all without the premise of who was behind it ever really being that believable (or the body count). Also got very slow at times despite the complications!

I won't add a spoiler in case any are still catching up on Sky+ etc (as I was) but the final result of who came out well and who didn't wasn't exactly to my taste either.

You're right that it went off a little as it went on, some of the dialogue was a bit clunky (some of it excellent - Jays explanation scene with Babur) and a bit of characterisation (his female sidekick) was just plain bad. However I'd rather the bbc made more stuff like this, It was definately different in style (which I liked) and I actually liked the ending - thinking how best to describe it without spoilers - it wasn't american? and the wheel keeps on turning.

If they take lessons learned I'd be happy to watch another series that they let Hugo Blick have a go at writing.
