yeah cant wait for it to start! Sky are launching their home 3D channel with the Ryder Cup, I've not taken the plunge with that technology yet but I bet it will be amazing to watch :)

what are peoples thoughts on any likely pairings for the tournament?

Not surprisingly it would appear that the Molinari brothers are likely to be lining up together, and also that G Mac and Rory Mcilroy will also be reuniting their world cup partnership.

I feel Poulter will partner Donald or Westy and play all games after his performane in the last Ryder Cup.

Both captains have said the players will not be using social network sides.

Nice to see Harrington play into some form too with a 64 on Sunday

Its butt clenching stuff and i love it!

I'd like to see everyone get a game as early as possible but not at the expense of points. The right time to debut is NOT in fouresomes as its very unforgiving. For that reason i'd hold back Hanson (or anyone looking shaky in practice) for example until Saturday.

We need a good start so its got to be best out first in the fourballs a.m. and then take a call on p.m. with the above in mind.

If Westward, Donald, McElroy, McDowel and Poulter can bring their A games then we're gonna kick their butts!

On team selection, hasn't Monty already said that everyone will play on Day 1? His reasoning being that it's horrendous not to be included for a whole day and a real knock to the confidence.

I'd hope though that he does as Groomyd suggests - stick our top guns out in the morning, see how they get on in the morning and rest anyone he feels he needs to in order to get the best chance of getting points in the afternoon.

I heard that Poulter & Fisher might be a combo, and maybe Westwood with Martin Kaymer? The Molinaris are obvious, as are the McD & McI. That leaves Donald, who will surely play Friday morning, Hanson, Jimenez & Harrington. Maybe they'll rest the Molinaris for the morning and play them in foursomes (surely a great combo for foursomes where it's all about knowing your partner) and put Donald out with Harrington?

Anyway, I'm going along on Friday and can't wait. Desperately want Europe to win, but also really looking forward to seeing the likes of Watson, D Johnson, Mickleson & Woods strut their stuff. Should be a great day :D

I believe that in foursomes you should have similar players.

That way you walk up and hit your shot just as you see it and just how you would if you were playing singles.

Your mind is uncluttered.

If you play with someone who is way longer or shorter than you then suddenly you're playing a different course to the one you have practiced on (more longer irons in or shorter irons in) and that can lead to second guessing where your partner "prefers" to be and playing your shots to where you think you should hit for them rather than where you would normally hit it .............................

Does anyone know when the tee off times run from / until for Sunday's Singles? Chelsea vs Arsenal is at 4.00pm, presumably it will be all over by then (weather permitting!).

Having only ever been to the Dutch open - looking forward to my first real live tournament.

Just gotta pray for the weather - I lived in Wales for 3 years and when the rain sets in it can be a git.

Redgegooner will hopefully provide live updates throughout the week.

Lets hope Jonathan does not start jinxing things.

Getting very excited about this now also.

Just trying to pick up on every little snippet to get the pairings. Poulter seemed very buoyant when quizzed about the Friday pairings. Suggests to me that he maybe down to play twice on the opening day which is what he'd enjoy.

Maybe a Poulter / Fisher combo in the morning fourballs, followed by Poulter / Donald in the foursomes? Westwood and Kaymer seem certain to play twice as the marquee pairing. Harrington and Donald maybe out together in fourballs and the Northern Irish pair making up a very strong opening quartet.

Does mean blooding the Molinari's together in the foursomes and also Hanson with Jimenez in the afternoon, but coming in fresh these are the sort of pairings that I'd still reckon could do well.

Mind you a Stricker / Woods, Mickelson + Rookie, Furyk + anybody are all potentially very tough opponents.

not quite sure how looking at 2008 tv times in US help, but still.

So looking forward to this but I'm still not getting up at 2.30am on Friday then on Sat & Sun tv coverage here starts at 8am but can I refrain from looking at earlier results ...I don't think so

Just seen the weather forecast for Friday onwards, really terrible. Rain and strong winds especially Friday.

Interesting to see what the bad weather does for McIlroy's playing chances on the Friday after he blew up in the bad weather at St Andrews earlier in the year.

I reckon Doubtfire has over-analysed this so it is so far up his anal passage that he has forgotten the answer

Would we expect any matches still to be playing at noon on Friday?

last match tees of at 8:30, so should still be going at noon (unless one lot thrashes the other 7 and 6 or something!), especially as it's fourballs.

I wish Tiger would just lighten up a bit. He's so bleedin miserable in the Press Conferences, although one reporter does have it in for him in particular.

Nice interview with Monty on Radio 5 the other night, with him reminiscing about all of his Ryder Cup memories. I do recall Calcavecchia topping one into the water one year when he was four ahead against Monty with four to play  The match ended up being halved. Ol' Calc had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp :D

Oh yeah and the Captain has banned Twitter. Good move bearing in mind recent commnets tweeted by some of our cricketeers.

Not a massive golf fan but love the Ryder Cup. Come on Europe :D

was a nightmare on tue morning but they have it sorted now. I've been there at about 6ish both mornings and its a steady flow. Only 1 bag scanner slows things down a bit but more buses than you ever seen and its only 10 - 15 mins to course from car park.
See you there at 6-30

Redge - would you recommend not taking a bag then? Is there a 'no bag' line that makes it quicker to get in?

Cheers,

there is a no bag line, but it really depends on the time your going to be there. ! you will still have to pass through a body scanner and if its really busy will still have to wait.!.

No sure how long people been having to wait when its really busy as i've been going through very early.
