Great result in the end but I would still rather Monty had given Paul Casey his pick over Ed Molinari, he almost blew the whole show from being 4 up with 6 to play in his singles. Missed a few tiddlers too and looked likely to panic whenever under pressure.
I won't be in too much of a hurry to put any money on Harrington either, apart from reading Fisher's putts struggled to find any rhythm or form.
Gooner Poulter top scorer once again, appears to relish the pressure of match play.
Francesco appeared far less assured than Edoardo during the week, in my opinion. In the foursomes, Francesco twice failed to reach the hole from only a few feet...a cardinal sin. Like it has already been said, it was more the brilliance of Fowler that ensured the half in their singles game.
That half, no matter how it occurred, helped secure the Ryder Cup.
As per my Harrington post, I personally think that Monty got it right by not including Casey in terms of the team dynamic. It also sends the right message going forward - if you want to make sure you get on the team, you have to qualify by right. Even so, it would be to the benefit of the team to have four wildcards rather than three...
No individual player is bigger than the team - as proven by the fact that USA's only victory in the last decade came when Woods wasn't on the team.
