Was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed it as always. Hope it does lead to a new series....

I used to love the show but found this one off special to be a load of sentimental twaddle.
I would have much preferred if it had of been done in the normal format, instead we got a few sentimental songs and some fancy dan camera work. What was that hospital scene all about? And the fat neighbours first dates?
Anthony is a city exec? Why bother?

The dance scene was very predictable.

Im with yer Trigger.

I thought it was rubbish..... or should I say disappointing ("rubbish" is a bit harsh).

Not enough flow to the show. Too many bitty parts all interspersed with Johnny Cash (which was the shows only saving grace). It's as if they did some brainstorming and only came up with ideas that lasted for 60 seconds, so they just moved on to the next 'idea'.

They tried to use the same old formula for laughs over and over again.

The laminate laying dance was lame.
The scenes with little David were lame.
Denise's groans were typical and predictable.

:(

I'm afraid that I agree that it was formulaic and over-romanticised, as though they were looking back on the events sentimentally rather than experiencing them first-hand, as they used to. In effect, the degree of realism has either worn off on us or, as I suspect, wasn't sufficiently controlled by the director.

In addition to the criticisms above, I'd add that I found the first scene between Anthony and his dad particularly painful and incredulous, with its crude power struggle, especially once the old boy got his money and turned aggressive.

However, although I felt it was protracted at the time, the scene of acknowledgement between the mother and Nana had moments of profound recognition of the human condition and I found myself deeply moved ..... briefly. Shame they felt the need to edit the scene to the music, not the otherway round. It was far too long.

My greatest regret, though, was the lack of Darren. Presumably he's otherwise engaged at Her Majesty's pleasure right now.

Just watched it and was 'happy' with it, but I wouldn't go out and buy it !

The thing was always going to be sentimental because it was about the death of the old bird.

Best scene
Jim obviously has a love/hate relationship with Nana, but when they were on their own, he shows his true colours. When he was getting her onto the chair lift and taking the p*ss with her zimmer frame was brilliant. This would have been one of Jims last, happy memories of the old girl and thats why it was written into the programme.

Good
Scenes between Barbara and Nana
Jim ranting at Antony after he got his £50. Predictable and knew it was coming but I still laughed.
Cheryls internet boyfriends and possible future love interest with Twiggy. I cringed for the poor chaps.
Kids under the table sipping beer and caught by Jim

Naff
Floor laminating scene
Ashes on top of the TV

Absolute crap
Antony being an exec. There is absolutely no way and can't see where they're going to go with this if there is going to be a series. Spoilt the character and can't see where his mate Darren would fit into his new lifestyle.

He never said he was a big exec. The 'gag' to me was that they all assumed he was doing brilliantly because he had a conference in Milton Keynes. Darren is full time on Corrie which is why he wasn't in it. No sign of his girlfriend (wife?) either.

Plenty of potential for humour if one of the family is moving up in the world and also the clash between the two kids growing into different worlds.

I was disappointed with it too, the documentary afterwards was far better.

My opion of the good/bad scnes is pretty much the complete opposite of Shrews btw.

I found the scene with Jim and nana completely unbelieveable, infact i kept on waiting for one of them to wake up and find it was a dream.

The whole nana thing was way overdone IMO.

I really disliked the scene between Jim and Antony. Jim has been really nasty to his son throughout the series, i didn't want to see more of it after what would have been a tender moment now Antony has finally made somethig of his life.

I was pleased to see Ant making a go of a career. This kind of thing does happen in real life - there's always kids who are completely hopeless at school but somehow manage to end up doing very well for themsleves.

Agree the floor laminate scene was a very poor attempt at rehashing the wallpaper stripping scene.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the documentary too. Especially Sean Ryder (how big is his head) and Noel Gallagher been so excited about Oasis been mentioned on the show.
