Had a thought earlier as I walked along the harbour, looking towards the ship repair yard .... perhaps red & yellow cards could be 'storm damage' and force delays on affected ships when they reach ports?
Just an idea. :)

It is slightly nuts I have to admit - but great fun none-the-less... I hope.

Quoting your comment as well because I really hope others will also download the Google Earth client - it's well worth it.

Put it this way... we all share an interest in Fantasy Football. Who would of thought there was a Forum, and other sites, that focused on that. Well here we all are :)

Same goes for GE. The Google Earth Community forum is much the same as this (albeit with nearly 900k members). Takes a bit a time to find your way around but once you know what's what and you read the stickies etc the whole thing opens up for you. Dynamic Data Links is, in my view, where the sexy stuff happens - but wherever sort by rating in the sub-forums and go from there.

While I will provide The Race for Google Maps as well - GE is where my focus really is.

A couple of other sites I highly recommend are The Google Earth Blog and Ogle Earth. Again you've got to spend a little time looking around but both of these, plus GEC, will open GE up to you and you'll see how pedestrian what I'm doing is compared to what else is going on in that sphere.

To malefice and UEM, who I'm so pleased have joined this game, as Singaporeans(sp?), you may/may not know that some of your fellow countrymen have a Singapore based GE site, Earth@sg where they've done a huge set of 3D models for next years F1 GP - for which I helped, in a really minor way, by producing a Bezier based smooth path for their fly through. (I'm really quite chuffed with that one as it's pretty cool 8-) )

Anyway I better get to coding this game up - after I lose a bit more money playing cards that is

 Could be.... it is actually The Orca from the first Jaws film of which, apparently, there were 2 built, and one is still laying (rotting) in the water off Martha's Vineyard, where Jaws was filmed.

and thus by the muvvas' dive in form late in the 06/07 season, we are the most environmentally sound team by providing an ecosystem for hundreds of species to thrive where they once didn't.

and as for the fake shark, he's cactus. and polluting a cove just up from sunderland fan, with toxic decay. :o

Was waiting for the rules to see what's going on in this game, having seen them I still have no clue but I might as well set my crew to sail nonetheless!

Special Riders reporting for duty (if there's still space), YARRRRRRRR!

Some of it was filmed at Universal Studios, Hollywood. I went on a studios tour the summer before last and the set is still there - including the jetty and pool where they finally blew Jaws up.

Fantastic films... apart from the last 2, of course! I fulfilled a lifetimes ambition in 2001 when I went on the Jaws ride at Universal Studios, Orlando. Not the original set, I know, but still good enough for me.

Apparently Quint's yard, which was built in Martha's Vineyard, was just a temporary building, as putting something permanent up would have meant having to go through all the building regs... it is just an empty building plot nowadays.

just downloaded and installed Google Earth, looks good. Got so close to my house you could almost see me mowing the lawn in my Bermuda shorts (not a pretty sight!)

Look forward to following my boats efforts to stumble over the finishing line.

It is worryingly good, isn't it blueprint? I think the date the images for each region varies, but I hope it is not too recent, because the hotel we are staying in in Maderia next week currently has one swimming pool being re-tiled!

You think that's out of date you should try using Ordnance Survey maps.

holy moly! just read the "short" version of the rules, if that's the short version what will the full version be like!! :D

a lot of it is jibberish to me, i'll just leave all that up to the race organiser/admin to figure out, and watch as my boat speeds around in circles crashing into islands at every possible chance :D :D

GOOD GOD!!!   You are not wrong!

I think I get the gist of it and it really is looking like it could be an amazing game, but if you happen to have a gameweek where most of your players are at home (or away) you could end up with some seriously off target boats.

I guess they should correct themselves the following weeks but it isn't always the case.

Also one question is what happens on double gameweeks where a player has both a home and away match? Does that tack just go directly along the perfect direction or does the ship jump around a bit? Or am I making a mess of the rules? :?

In Romyn's absence... keep 'em peeled - all is set to become much, much clearer. :) This is shaping up to be something totally unique I reckon. Glad I am not doing the admin, though. I have put your name forward for when Romyn has a 4 week holiday over Christmas, Rob. Is that OK?

When MC have their 3 home games in a row there may be a few with Citeh defensive blocks veering towards Greenland, then?

Thanks Jonathan - I hope so.

I've moved the original Rules post down to the Full Rules section and replaced it with a Q&A style listing. This mainly covers the Navigation part but hopefully may make things a bit clearer to those who are confused :D

While I was about it I've also changed a few of them.

1. Got rid of Captain's bonus. It may reappear in some form but for now things are complicated enough without it.

2. Running Aground is now a 2 Tack penalty (was 4) and the co-ords you restart at confirmed. After Running Aground you restart at the same position as you were when the Tack that caused you to RA started.

3. When a Tack crosses a Wayline the Tack ends (rather than carries on) but any "un-used" Crew points are added to the start of the next Tack. This way the total number of Tacks/GW stays at 15 and you get the distance after crossing being applied to your new Bearing (with the new nm/points value also).

4. Boats that don't finish a Leg in the scheduled time still earn points - dependent on their distance from the finish or their distance from their Target Waypoint if they're still a way away.

5. Double-Gameweeks. Only your Crew member's first fixture will count - this is for both when the points are for distance and the following week when they are part of the navigation calculations. If your Crew member only plays in the second fixture of the GW his score will be zero.

Jonathan has kindly joined the Race Committee to assist if any needs a third eye - but there are still one/two places available if anyone fancies it.

The Initial Route will be published soon - just tweaking a few things still.

Also a few berths (4) still left if anyone else wants to throw their hat in the ring.

Edited to add no.5
