THE FISO LEAGUE FPL KNOCKOUT CUP 2007
Brought to you by Jonathan and RomynPG :)

PLEASE NOTE THE TIE-BREAK AMENDMENT TO RULE NUMBER 1

Image

CURRENT HOLDERS: Westie
RUNNERS UP: lucan jerry

Remaining Gameweek rounds are as follows:
Semi-Finals Gameweeks 14 & 15
Final Gameweeks 16 & 17

PLEASE NOTE THE TIE-BREAK AMENDMENT TO RULE NUMBER 1

Competition Rules
The team with the most points scored over the two legs progresses to the next round. Points lost through multiple transfers WILL NOT be taken into account. So, carry out as many transfers as you wish, however….

… if scores are level after the round then the following criteria will be used to determine the winner of the tie:

1. Transfers. A team with the LEAST number of total transfers made across both GWs of the tie, will progress to the next round. PLEASE NOTE: A Gameweek where the Wildcard is played will count as a single transfer.
2. Goals. If transfers can’t separate the two, then the team that scores the most number of GOALS across both GWs of the tie, will proceed to the next round.
3. Bench. If by some horrible quirk of fate the teams are still level then the team whose BENCH scores the most number of points across both GWs, will progress to the next round.
4. Toss. If scores are still level at this point, the lovely Mrs Riddle will toss me, errr, a coin, with the team name that comes first alphabetically being Heads.

I hope this is all clear. For a full and comprehensive list that matches FISO Names with their teams in The Elite take a look HERE! Thanks Spencer4!

Jonathan

And here is the draw for the SEMI-FINALS!

On the way here....

Hammered has amassed 705pts
Hairybear has amassed 694pts
barry has amassed 653pts
BLOUFO has amassed 653pts

So, top scoring manager Hammered is set to face the lowest scoring semi-finalist, BLOUFO.
barry will face second highest scorer Hairybear in the other semi-final tie.

Interestingly, barry and BLOUFO have both scored identical points on their way to the semi finals.

As one of last season's semi-finalists in this,my favourite FPL competition - because it's all-inclusive - I'd like to wish this season's contestants the very best of luck, and assure the losers that it's not the end of the world,as you will be amazed at the doors that will open for you.
Ok,trap doors maybe, as in my case it's been downhill ever since,so enjoy it while you can !

Nice words from a man who has been there... cheers grob! As last year, it has worked out well again regarding the teams that have done well - all well known and loved FISO members!

Jonathan, maybe this isn't the time or place to say so,but I've often wondered whether you try to PM those "unknowns". I'm sure that you do, but I've noticed how frustrated you get when some of these unknowns progress through the various stages of the comp, and whilst I understand this to an extent,in view of the amount of time you spend setting up and running this great comp, which you can't be expected to derive satisfaction from if it's won by people who don't say "hi","thank you",or anything at all, I can't help feeling that the main reason for this is likely to be that the individuals concerned are blissfully unaware of their progress in the cup,or even their participation in it !

Last season was my first full season in FPL,and I mainly spent my time in the TFF forum, dipping into the FPL forum from time to time.
It was on such a visit that I discovered to my surprise that I'd made it into the last 16 of this comp, and I spent a pleasant hour or two discovering how I'd managed to do so !

That really was my introduction to FPL in that my interest grew from that moment to the point that I eventually became a missionary for the FPL cause ! It remains my favourite game by far,and I owe you a debt of gratitude for making it an all-inclusive comp, which I would otherwise probably not have entered, not really knowing then what FPL was all about.

That's why I feel sure that if only these "unknowns",almost regarded as the "unwashables" sometimes(!) realised that they were participating, they WOULD come forward, and join in,and be for ever thankful to you afterwards, as I am, for if I'd not accidentally stumbled across the "last 16" Cup thread, I might never have discovered the full attraction/benefits of FPL participation via Fiso membership.

I realise that some may join Fiso simply to measure their progress in a league, without wishing to get involved any further, but your comp, because you include everyone automatically, without them having to apply,as is the case with all the other side games,is what makes your comp so special.

I'm not sure how hard you've tried to contact these "unknowns",and maybe you feel that you shouldn't have to,which would be understandable, but surely there must be a way of doing so,even if it meant splitting the task between a group of us who know how much they would gain.

I know there's a list of unidentified Fiso members usernames in the "who are you" section, but would it not be possible for ADMIN to assist in the identification of at least those who make good progress in your competition,as a starting point ?

Forgive me for raising this issue in the thread about the semi-finals,but I felt that if I didn't say something now, while it's in my mind,I might never do so ! As you said,it's not an issue this time, but I'm not sure that many people realise just how valuable this competition potentially is in bringing a lot of FPL/Fiso lurkers into the fold, who may just be too shy to introduce themselves.

How can you PM someone if their FISO username is not known? :?: They might not even have an account, as you can read the forum (and therefore find the league code) without registering.

I think we should have a "banter" cup whereby you get knocked out if you don't post in a GW. For every 10 posts you make, add 1 to your GW score. Murf not eligible, but is allowed to present the trophy

Very much appreciate your post, grob. It is great to hear that the reason you have now grown to like FPL so much is because of my little cup comp last season! 8-)

flyingkillercob has explained what FISO Unknown really means. I probably refer to them wrongly, as they are FISO League members, but without a known FISO username, and have gotten hold of the FISO league code, perhaps without being a member of the FISO forums. A hollow exercise if you ask me, but there is no law against it!

I think we do as much as we can with the threads about members letting everyone else know who they are, and the aim of that exercise is mainly to just tally up a FISO username with a FISO League team.

I jokingly called them FISO Unknowns, with the odd sarcastic comment about them, just for banter purposes. They may only ever post once, to tell us their FISO name and league team - but that is enough to move them over from the dark side!

At the end of the day, I knew that it was highly likely that we could end up with little or no banter if unknown or rare posters reach the latter stages of the cup - but this year and last, we have gladly avoided that.

Spencer4 and Romyn are the ones that really need congratulating on coupling usernames with league names, though.

Hope that explains things a bit better, grob. For a "declared" entry only Champions League based game soon after Christmas, keep an eye out for the launch threads!

Jonathan

Jonathan,FKC, I hadn't realised that it was possible for anyone to join the Fiso league without first becoming a Fiso member. This is plain daft !

It's not in anyone's interests, and surely ADMIN could insist on membership of Fiso being mandatory before being allowed to join the Fiso league !!

The league code could surely be placed in a "members only" section,to save everyone having to PM to obtain it.

I was aware of the efforts of Viddleodge and others such as Spencer4 and Romyn, to match up the usernames, but thought this was due to people having changed their usernames, rather than never having joined Fiso.

As it would be in the interests of everyone, - the users,side-game organisers and Fiso especially,in terms of membership recruitment, maybe the newly appointed FPL Moderators can take this up with ADMIN and cure the problem once and for all - it's so simple a solution isn't it ?

It has been discussed many times before, grob. However, we do need to remember that FISO costs Mr Administrator a fair chunk of money for hosting - and it is in his interest to keep things like fantasy football leagues and their codes that use the FISO name as public as possible. Having said that, of course he would rather they joined FISO first!

But, I can't think of many other side games that use the whole FISO league as its entry list, so it is only me that has the problem as far as the comps go.

I can't see any benefit to Fiso in allowing people to join the Fiso FPL league without first becoming members of Fiso, especially as membership is free.
I think I'll PM ADMIN and ask him to have a glance at this thread when he's got a spare moment ! Nothing to lose by doing so,it seems to me.

I'll look at this area in the New Year once the website is fully redeveloped.

Even if forums continued to be readable by anyone, it would be easy to set up a new small forum readable only by registered users (signed in) where Super/Mini League details could be posted.

I would hope that FPL could adjust the way they allow people to enter the mini-leagues set up by people. At the moment you just need to find the code and you can enter.

With the OFL fantasy game, plus their Champions League version (and fantasy golf), the administrator of the league has to give approval for the person to enter. No post in FISO - no approval. 8-)

The Champions League version is being particularly well administered in that respect.

provisionally 48 - 33 to me but hairy one has Nelsen, MGP, McCarthy (c) V Knight in the midweek game (agbonlahor (who I forgot to captain!) and Laursen feature in both teams.)

Before Wednesdays final game of this frustrating gameweek, here are the scores for both semi-finals.

barry was one of a few caught out by Ronaldo being rested, but still managed a reasonable 40pts so far. However, on closer inspection, barry has doubler Agbonlahor on the bench ( why?) to not only jump in with a further 8pts, but it also means that he has 3 Villa players still to play on Wednesday. barry's opponent Hairybear will be praying (like me) that the girls blouse Captain McCarthy recovers from his horrendous 10ft deep gash that resulted in 100 pints of blood being lost on Sunday . If that doesn't happen, it is not looking too good for the highflying Mr Bigstuff in this first leg.

Over in the other semi, BLOUFO is hot-to-trot at the moment, with an impressive 60pts and the full quota of popular Villa players still to play again. Hammered also managed a good 48pts, and also has the quota of 3 Villa players for more points on Wednesday...? Key in this tie though, could be that Hammered has Agbonlahor as captain.... this one could be close, and with both teams having two Villa defenders, this could be the decider in the first leg.

IblameFlyman (barry) 40pts v 32pts Mr Bigstuff (Hairybear)
Thierryless XI (BLOUFO) 60pts v 48pts A Bag of Chewynuts (hammered)

 I deserve some positive handicap to balance being crap at FPL

In the comps I run (TFF superleague and FISO Goals based) I have resorted to them being sign up games this year. I'm not going to all that effort to have it won by someone who either can't be bothered to join in the banter or doesn't even know he is playing. I'd rather maximise the pleasure for those friendly FISOers who do get involved.

I got too excited about travelling into civilisation and forgot to sort my team out..... ronaldo still my captain rather than one of the villa boys

You reckon right barry :D You increased your lead over Hairybear before last nights game from 8pts to 20pts. However, with another, more appealing double this coming gameweek, there is still plenty of work to do.

The other tie is crazily close, with just a single point separating BLOUFO and Hammered (80pts v 81pts) - both showing how to take proper advantage of what, on paper, didn't look a particularly appealing double gameweek. Nice work and all to play for in both ties. :)

Good luck all - and may your captains be with you. Will anybody dare to captain a potential injury worry in Fabregas?

Well, with just one more game to go this gameweek, it does indeed seem as though both ties are already settled. As hinted by barry, he currently leads Hairybear 47pts v 38pts, before subbing, going into Wednesday. barry has Adebayor(C) and Fabregas(?) to play, and Hairybear will have the bencher Geremi to step in. A miracle is required for Hairybear, who actually may be absent at the moment....?

In the other tie, which was much closer going into this second leg, a pretty special score from hammered has seen him virtually book his place in the final. The scores are currently BLOUFO 29pts v 70pts hammered. BLOUFO has Adebayor, Fabregas(?) and Sagna to play, but hammered will surely be approachiing the ton this week, with Adebayor(C), Rosicky, Fabregas(?), Martins and Geremi all still to play

Great stuff, but the fat lady isn't singing just yet

IblameFlyman (barry) (68+47pts) 115pts v 86pts (48+38pts) Mr Bigstuff (Hairybear)
Thierryless XI (BLOUFO) (80+29pts) 109pts v 151pts (81+70pts ) A Bag of Chewynuts (hammered)

Well, after last night's games, nothing change in terms of winners and losers, and we now have our two finalists confirmed...

Well done barry and hammered Image

Mr Bigstuff's recent fall in form resulted in a resounding 40pt defeat against IblameFlyman, and in the other tie, I don't think anybody would have had a chance against FISO League leader - and 56th, yes 56th overall  A Bag of Chewynuts, who took the tie against Thierryless XI with a huge 56pt margin.

It is going to be a great final, and current form means barry will have his work cut out, but they both start equal, and it should be close!

Nice work to the finalists, hard luck to the losing semi-finalists, BLOUFO and Hairybear.

Good luck to barry and hammered over the next couple of weeks. Let's hope for a good, even contest - without any sillyness from Premiership managers resting captains!.

Jonathan

IblameFlyman (barry) (68+66pts) 134pts v 94pts (48+46pts) Mr Bigstuff (Hairybear)
Thierryless XI (BLOUFO) (80+39pts) 119pts v 175pts (81+94pts ) A Bag of Chewynuts (hammered)
