The Semi Final - The results

It was an incredibly dramatic semi final - the cancellation of the Wigan -v- Bolton game means that the scores remain as above. 105 is the theme!

At the end of the first leg Terminator and GREENIE were separated by just 2 points - by the end of the semi there was nothing to separate them! In the FPL equivalent of a penalty shoot out to transfers we must go....

Week 17 transfers
Terminator 2
GREENIE 1

Week 18 transfers
Terminator 3
GREENIE 0

With the least number of transfers (1 to Terminators 5), GREENIE goes through - congrats to him - and commiserations to Terminator - what a way to go out.

The tie between Chinsu and hifromsriram was also very close after the first leg separated as they were by just 7 points. Chinsu however pushed on and stretched that lead to a decisive 13. Again well played hifromsriram for getting this far.

The Final therefore takes place between Chinsu and GREENIE - a preview of that final plus a look at how those teams reached the final to follow.

The Final

FC.Chinsu - chinsu -v- GRENDEL - GREENIE

Chinsu represents Vietnam in the final whereas GREENIE flies the flag for Wales.

As at today GREENIE was slightly ahead overall with 1069 points but only just - with Chinsu having notched up 1060.

GREENIE is in his 4th year of FPL, and last year demonstrated his credentials coming 163rd overall!

Chinsu though is no FPL slouch - also in his 4th year he suffered a dip last year but in 2007/08 came a very credible 472nd.

Chinsu is tied in the real FPL cup 39 all, GREENIE looks safely through!

Blimey! I didn't know the semi-finals were that close. Incredible that 3 teams all finished on 105. Shame a tie-break ruling was needed, and a called off game too. I hope the fixtures are messed around for the final!

Nice summary, Knulpuk. You will be glad when it is all over, I bet?

Good luck to the finalists! Do they know they are in the final?

I would like to thank Knulpuk for organising an excellent competition. I was unaware of this cup until i received a pm notifying me i was in the last 16 and have been taking a great interest ever since
I was lucky in the semi final because if Geovanni has scored the penalty i would have been out My wildcard turned out very handy
I see my opponent FC Chinsu is an Arsenal fan which gives me a lot of confidence as Arsenal have not won anything for years !
Best of luck to FC Chinsu

The Final - Leg 1

FC.Chinsu - chinsu 60 -v- GRENDEL - GREENIE 74

Well you dont get this far in the FPL cup without knowing your onions - both teams captained Rooney this week - trousering 30 points each into the process in what was a very high scoring first leg.

The main difference between the teams was the Goalkeeper - GREENIE plumped for Hart and 11 points whereas Friedel scored Chinsu just 3. Both teams continue to shoot up the league with GREENIE entering the top 2,000.

There is 14 points in it - but the choice of a captain here or there could be all the difference - If I am around I will try and post the teams in a couple of hours, ahead of the fixtures.

Good luck both!

Nice and close, and having a double gameweek for the final leg is going to make it tricky. Personally I am clueless when it comes to doubles, so thankfully I didn't make it past Round 1 this year!

The Final - Leg 2 - the story so far.....

FC.Chinsu - chinsu 23 -v- GRENDEL - GREENIE 20

So Far Chinsu has clawed back 3 points but there in awful lot still to play for - the following still have to play:

De Laet (who I have never heard of  )

GREENIE
Arshavin (c)

Man Utd clean sheets -v- Arsenal clean sheets and the cpataincy choices could be the things on which the cup is lifted - will update after tonights key games......

I think Chinsu is in the lead by 3 but i have
Sorensen
Gallas
Vermaelen
Etherington
Cohen
Arshavin (c)
to play next week

Chinsu will have Mikel (2 points) to replace De Laet and Arshavin. I think Song will have gone to the ACN by January 6

I just hope we do not have blizzards next week !!

I think we are now tied with just the Arsenal Bolton game to go If it is played I will almost certainly win if it is postponed Chinsu will win on transfers used
Bit disappointed that Etherington was originally credited with 2 assists and did not receive a bonus point and also Sorensen pulled out in the warm up
Praying that the game starts tomorrow

Hope the postponement hasn't been the deciding factor, but then it is the same for everyone.

So the FPL Cup has come to an end and what an end it was.

After the first leg the scores were as follows:

Leg 1

FC.Chinsu - chinsu 60 -v- GRENDEL - GREENIE 74

Leg 2 was a mixture of captancy decisions, double gameweeks and the weather - on what things victories turn!

Leg 2

FC.Chinsu - chinsu 64 -v- GRENDEL - GREENIE 50

The final Scores

FC.Chinsu - chinsu 124 -v- GRENDEL - GREENIE 124

To transfers therefore we must go, and I can reveal the following were made

GREENIE
GW 19 3 transfers
GW 20 3 transfers
Total 6

Chinsu
GW 19 1 transfer
GW 20 0 transfer
Total 1

What a way to finish but it has and the 2009/2010 FISO League FPL Knockout Cup is won by....

Chinsu with F.C. Chinsu

A warm round of applause though for GREENIE who but for the cancellation may well have have gone on to secure victory. The Cup is on its its way to Vietnam - they will be dancing in the streets of Ba Ria-Vung Tau tonight.

Thanks everyone for playing as always thanks to the man who defines the word unsung - RomynPG without who we would all be sunk and Jonathan for his help in handing over the comp so fluently and his tactful posts usually subtely hinting that I had (in a very helpful way) not quite got things right

Blimey! Well done Chinsu and hard luck GREENIE. What a way to win and lose! Never in the history of the FISO LEAGUE FPL KNOCKOUT CUP has there been such a close finish. First time the cup has gone overseas too, I think.

Great work Knulpuk, and thanks for taking it on - if you hadn't, it may well not have run this year. You showed a lot more imagination then I ever did, too! Romyn is the star with a reasonably priced database, and he really helps in comps like these.

The provisional round seems a long time ago, eh Knulpuk?
