This is a free to enter game that is just for a bit of fun during the season. There will be a £50 prize for the winner, £30 donated by me and £20 of which being kindly donated by ISSACA and TheMelonPopper for scoring less than half of my team in the Amnesiac Trophy. Any further donations to the prize fund will be appreciated, so please send me me a PM if you're feeling generous.

The Objective of the Game

The objective is to find the worst value DreamTeam players, having your team score the least amount of points.


The Rules

1. Your team must have a value of at least £40.0m (i.e. You can have a team valued at £50m if you want, but not one costing £39.5m)

2. One entry per FISO member, no automated entries allowed

3. You can make up to 3 transfers at each transfer window.
There will be three transfer windows: The first is the week after the official TW1 (Exclusion list published on Wednesday 31st August - Transfers to be PM'd to me by Midday Wednesday 7th September), the second will be 1 week after the official TW3 and the third will be 1 week after the official TW4.

4. The winner will be the manager whose team scored the least amount of points over the season, including penalty points

5. The entry deadline is midday on Tuesday 9th August.

6. You must not pick players from the Exclusion List (see below)


The Exclusion List

The exclusion list will involve players who are no longer playing in the Premier League and players who are injured/banned for the bulk of each upcoming game period. I will decide which players get listed.

The initial exclusion list is in the post below. Before a transfer window, the updated exclusion list will be published 1 week before the submission deadline for transfers (see above for the dates).

If a player is transferred out of the Prem (or gets long-term crocked) after the Exclusion List has been published but before the entry deadline (i.e. in that one week gap), then people are free to pick that player. However, you must be aware that you will face a penalty if that player is on the Exclusion List at the next transfer window and you do not transfer him out (see below for details of the penalties).

Should a manager choose to pick a player on the exclusion list at the game entry deadline, they will pay a penalty of 16 times the player's value or 50 points (whichever is greater). (i.e. an £8.0m player incurs 128 penalty points, a £3.5m player incurs 56 penalty points, a £1.0m player incurs 50 penalty points).

Should a player be added to the exclusion list in advance of a transfer window, managers with that player in their team can elect to transfer him out, or accept the points penalty.

So, to summarise, try and pick players who are just useless, as picking players who you are fairly sure will be transferred abroad (such as Fabregas) will force you to transfer them out at TW1 or pay a hefty penalty.


In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the manager whose team incurred the least amount of penalty points in total, then the manager who used the least number of transfers in total, then the manager whose team scored the least points between TW1 and TW2. If it's still a tie, the money is shared.

How to Enter
Please send me a PM entitled "The Dyer League" with your team listed in the message. Please try and include the ID numbers of each player you select, as it'll help me when putting the spreadsheet together.

Remember, you can pick these players if you want to pay a hefty penalty, though you'd be pretty stupid to do so. You can pick Fabregas if you like, even though it looks likely he'll move to Barca before the Summer is out, but remember if he does move, he'll be on the exclusion list for TW1 and thus you'll have to either transfer him out or accept a hefty points penalty.

If there are any glaring players missed off the exclusion list, feel free to pick them!

Yes. Of course, if they are forced to stay and play some matches before they're sold at the end of August, then they're likely to score you some points, which in this game is a bad thing!

If they get transferred in the next few days, then you get the benefit of no points scored until TW1, but you'll have to transfer them or pay a penalty at TW1.

I guess the issue of picking Fabregas and Tevez, whilst seeming easy now, if they both then go on the exlcusion list at TW1, will be a struggle to get both out and keep to 40m with replacements....Rooney maybe Perhaps hope Torres or Drogba will look poor value by then? Risky

Hi Jules, if you select a team now, can you make changes before the season starts ?

Just thought of one other thing....are you penalised for choosing a consistant " bench warmer " ? ( i.e. someone that never gets on the pitch ) If not, you should be, because the idea should be to choose players that are likely to play.

Thinking about it, it wouldn't be beneficial to choose that type of player ? ( especially where defenders are concerned ! ) With my " cognitive " function i don't think i can cope with this ! It's harder than it appears !

That's a good question. I'm happy for people to submit an updated team before the cut-off date, but if they keep making tweaks and changes every day I'll just get confused. So, submit a team now just to get one done, then if you want to make changes to it let me know as near to the cut-off date as you can.


You're not penalised for picking a bench warmer. Generally, a bench warmer still scores some points (e.g. Michael Owen - 13 starts from the bench out just 16 appearances and yet he still scored 38 points), so the art is still to find the players who score sod all whether they get on the pitch or not.

Definitely not! This is a challenge to pick the worst team, so I wouldn't want anyone to actually enter their team in the main DreamTeam game.

I've only had two entries so far, but I expect to get 20+ by the end of the weekend so hopefully there will be plenty of competition. From some of the RMT threads, I see some people are already trying to get some reaction to their Dyer League picks!

Not enough! The deadline is midday on Tuesday 9th, so hopefully some more will enter over the weekend. I can't believe more haven't entered yet, considering it's free to play and carries a decent cash prize, and considering how good certain people are at picking poor teams!
