What do you think of VJ's chances...seeing how he tied for 5th place overall (with M.Campbell and Sergio) in the 2005 Open at St Andrews.

I spent a couple of hours this morning watching practice rounds. Beautiful weather, but that's all going to change. I was quite surprised that so many players were struggling to keep it straight considering the conditions.
The greens look green to me, so quit slow.
No idea who'll win, where's that octopus!

I dont bet on Golf but if you do

make sure you bet with Boylesport who are paying 8 places each way 1/4 odds

or at worst

Paddy Power who are paying 7 places each way 1/4 odds.

Ladbrokes are paying ist 5 places 1/4 odds eff ladcrooks.

I sincerly hope that the big 3 all get very little custom on the open.

All are paying first 5 only and it is not as if there odds are any bigger than the others.

Anybody who bets with them this week needs help, they are being very greedy and taking customers for mugs.

Hills are also 5 places only 1/4 odds and
Corals are 1/3rd odds again only 5 places.

its the same with big horse races like the national for instance the big 3 pay ist 4 each way the rest pay ist 5 or even 6 in places on what is normaly a 40 runner 4 1/4 mile race.

shop around you'll be gutted if your selection finishes 7th for instance and both PP and Boylesport are offering free bets if you open an acount- you aint gotta use it again afterall.

scroll to bottom of the link below, to see which bookies are paying to 5,6,7,8 places, and terms.

Hills are not on there but i just took it out of the paper their terms( todays Sun)

Boylesports may be offering the best terms on places but they are not best priced on any single golfer who is 125/1 or less so you have to weigh up price against the number of places, especially bearing in mind that dead heats in the minor positions quite often dilute your winnings.

I have invested a few pennies on Sean O'Hair (top 20 last time at St Andrews) and took 90/1 with Skybet who pay 6 places rather than 80/1 with Boyles.

Ask yourself this question

would you rather have 8 places paying each way or 6. :?

for the sake of 2.5 pips the way i look at it as 1/4 of 10 is 2.5.
and realistically your selection aint gonna win, but could possibly get in the top 8

i would rather have 8 places but hey i know didly squatt about golf.

The trouble with places is that they are rarely clear-cut in golf.

Five players on joint 8th will shred those odds......

FS Record: Fantasy league golf -Open winner 07. Husband of Callaway wedge winner Todays golfer 08. T-shirt winner Pro Golf 08. WOW!
On the other hand Tiger woods is 6/1 with Boylesports for 8 places and at 1/4 odds if you really fancied him its alot better than Ladbrokes 6/1 for 5 places Hills 7/1 for 5 places or Corals 13/2 for 5 places.

its basically 2/1 for Woods to finish in the top 8.[/quote]

Can someone please expain the 2/1 place on woods when 6/1 win equates to:-

£5 e/w at 6/1 = £10 stake

Returns for place £12.50

£10 stake £12.50 returns looks like odds of 1 to 4 for place only - even if counting place stake - which is wrong this would be 6/4

I may be missing something and happy to be corrected

And when there are more than 8 in the top eight from ties, you need to divide the e/w part of the win

i HAVE CORRECTED MY POST IN HASTE I WORKED THOSE ODDS OUT ON 8/1 GETTING CONFUSED WITH THE 8 PLACES( NEVER BEEN SEEN)

i',m sorry i tried to steer some golf enthusiasts to the best sites for each way terms

i'm also sorry some wish to be pedantic..

by all means take the 7/1 with Hills if Woods wins its £40 win stake and £13.75 place but only on 5 places
Betfred go one better same returns but for 6 places.

Skybet go 13/2 showing a £37.50 win and £13.12 place fopr 6 places
Sporting bet likewise BUT ONLY 5 PLACES

CORALS go £37.50 win basis but 15.83 place BUT ONLY 5 PLACES.

afterthat you could get 8 places Boylesport paying £35.00 win and £12.50 place terms.

i'll keep me trap shut in future as i say was just steering the blind in the right direction but all one seems to get is sarcasm.

:?

There could be four tied eighth, the place money is less than the stake.

So instead of 7 places, it goes to 11so you will only get two-thjirds(ish) of what you would expect to get.

IF you bet with other firms you wouldn't even need to worry about tied 6th 7th or even 8th.
It wouldn't apply.
