The Boston Globe online does a series of news stories in photos. The most recent "story" is on the forest fires in California. Terrible event caught brilliantly in photos.

By the way, it's well worth looking at their archives.

Brilliant stuff. Particularly like the long-distance ones showing the smoke rising up over the city.

Great link - thanks.

I like the one of the clouds over the city - it is decidedly fore-shortened, but the clouds must be huge!

Picture 11 could be any late-summer bad-smog day though!

I liked the last comment on the website:
Quote:
I was born in Los Angeles and have lived here all my life. This is not new It has happened many times in my lifetime. In the early '30s there were a large number of firefighters burned to a black crisp in the Griffith Park fire.
Bless those who protect us. Lets help them by demanding that the forrests be cleaned often of the fuel that makes these fires so bad.

Err - that fuel would be wood, I guess. Yes, clear the forests of wood, so they can be enjoyed without fire.

Floods?

Here you go then.

Intended this thread as a place to bring attention to a variety of world events as seen through the lenses of some excellent photographers. Hence the occasional 'bumps'.

From the Atlantic a very interesting photo journal of the scrapping of a freight ship that had run aground.
