I've done the flight to and from Australia twelve times, and I've never had jet lag at all. Seem to be in the minority in that regard though.

I never sleep on the plane, maybe that has an effect?

Been to Oz a few times (got family out there), but not to see the Ashes. How many tests you planning to go for, and which ones?

It'll be summer there, so Melbourne / Sydney may be better than Brissie and Adelaide climate wise. They're nicer cities as well. Brissie's a bit dull tbh, as is Adelaide. Perth's just a long way from anywhere else if you want to see some sights while you're there.

I would say to go to the Brissie test, then get a follow the sun bus ticket and spend a couple of weeks going up coast - Hervey Bay/Fraser Island, Airlie Beach / Whitsundays, Townsville / Maggie Island and Port Douglas, coming back to Cairns to fly back. However, you'll be in the Wet, it'll be hot and humid as you go North and it'll be Stinger season so you can't swim in the sea outside of the netted areas (unless you want excruciating pain and possible paralysis and death), so maybe leave Queensland for another visit.

Adelaide can get really hot and Dry in December. Dull city, but some nice areas around the adelaide hills and on the coast out to Vic Harbour.

Melbourne and Sydney will also be hot, but probably the most comfortable cities at that time of year, and the most interesting. I guess getting tickets for the Boxing Day test in Melbourne isn't going to be easy though?

Re Jet lag. I don't suffer too badly, although might feel like dropping off at odd times for about 2 or 3 days. On Long Haul flights I always set my watch to the destination time before I set off and then if I sleep on the plane only do it when it's night time where I'm going.
