Inspired by Sted's 'Auction' League thread.

12 players needed - (11 plus me)
players will need to enter a team into TFF & join a Super League to play
The League will be just for fun & no prizes.
The entrants will be randomly selected from 1-12 and will select players from the TFF player list using a 'snake draft'
Once a player has been selected no other team can select that player - each starting XI will therefore be unique
Your team must be within the allowed TFF formations & the TFF budget of £50 Million
After the season has kicked off your team must remain in place until September 1st. You will then be allowed to bring in any player even if he is in anothers team
Their will be 2 winners (Starting XI & Season long) - can you do the double ???
Teams must be entered prior to 23.59pm on Friday Aug 12th, they are to be public (ie open for all to see) & remain so for the remainder of the season* - to allow me to ensure they are legitimate

*should a team be in the top 1000 overall at any stage after Jan 1st 2012, the Manager has the right to make his team private

4. padmole = RVP (Want a striker I have to transfer out injured week 3)
5. Chuck Taylor = Cech (don't fancy the 12th choice keeper in my starting XI lineup)
6. SamD = D de Gea (building team on solid base [it's hoped])
7. rossn13 = Given (Need a GK before all the semi respectable ones have gone)
8. nathan247 = Lampard (Easy start and always punishes me when I haven't got him)
9. robot = Szesceny [sp] (need a decent goalie before they've all gone
10. BoltonBoy = Reina (Last of few decent goalies left)
11. arsene doesn't know = Howard (best of the rest? don't want a complete muppet in goal)
12. AKNel1 = Suarez (all the top end keepers gone, arguably best player in the game)

End of Round 1 - Review

Hmm, 6 Goalkeepers selected in round 1. Is that a solid base to build on or throwing away points, I guess time will tell. Rooney going with the first pick was no big surprise, but the domino effect of falling goalkeepers that followed Sted's pick of Joe Hart came much earlier than I anticipated. Shay Given, Tim Howard & even Pepe Reina look to be a stretch for being first round picks.

Leighton Baines going as early as the #3 pick was another shock, its hard to imagine him posting 180+ points, which is what I'd anticipate from a healthy first round pick. Frank Lampard is a good solid pick going lower than I expected at 8 following the run on high end Goalkeepers. The doubts surrounding him concern his age, how AVB chooses to play him & whether he can remain injury free.

A low risk gamble from Padmole on RVP, if he stays healthy he'll bag plenty of points. Luis Suarez is also a bit of a gamble as he may miss the first game or two following his Copa America exertions but I'm delighted to be getting a high end potentially 200+ point striker.

Some big questions still to be answered - who will gamble on Tevez & Fabregas with their transfer status still uncertain (arguably both could/should have been top 6 picks in round 1). How low will Drogba & Torres drop (almost certainly first round picks in previous years). Steven Gerrard's groin is another point of interest, if Liverpool can get him fit surely he'll be value for money yet he could drop as low as the middle to late rounds, if drafted at all.

Round 2 - review

13. AKNel1 - Aguero (potentially killer strike force, to cover points loss from inevitably crap keeper)
14. A.D.K - Carroll (hopefully nailed on starter, Downing feeding him with crosses - season long injury worries though!)
15. BoltonBoy - D Bent (always going to score goals)
16. robot - B Zamora (if injury free feel will do well)
17. nathan247 - Malouda (hoping Chelsea get off to a flyer)
18. rossn13 - Drogba (wanted Lampard or Malouda; I'll settle for the drog)
19. SamD - V Kompany (another season-long defensive linch-pin?)
20. Chuck Taylor - Torres (I believe)
21. padmole - Friedel (panic keeper buy)
22. Striker - Yaha Toure (solid conservative buy)
23. sted - Gervinho (need a striker before they all go)
24. Richt - Ashley Cole (I need some defensive coverage, some chelsea coverage and Cheryl Cole coverage)

Round 2 sees the appearance of the first CK's with Aguerro going at #13 & Gervinho (earlier than I expected at #23). Aguerro is potentially a high end first round pick (imho) & his stock could increase even further if Tevez is sold. Looks to me like a low risk, high reward gamble but then I may be viewing that through rose tinted specs

Zamora & Carroll raised eyebrows & both may need to improve on previous efforts to justify the faith shown. After the flurry of Keepers going in round 1, it was no surprise to see most of the remaining GK free Managers choose to go after big hitters as the remaining keepers seem to be much of a muchness.

Torres at #20 could be inspired and is certainly worth a punt in round 2. No surprise to see a shift towards midfield and defence in the latter part of round 2 with the majority of top end strikers & keepers gone.

Another round or two and we should see some clear strategies on show. Interesting times ahead.


Round 3 - Review

25. Richt = Van der Vaart (a really tricky descision to make, but Tottenham's only point scorer - arguably)
26. sted = Hernandez (yeah, I know he's got a headache, HTFU son)
27. Striker = Ashley Young (shades of ex Villan Dwight Yorke can't be bad)
28. padmole = Nani (want a nice reliable player that doesn't sulk)
29. Chuck Taylor = Walcott (3rd choice midfielder behind Malouda and Nani)
30. SamD = J Terry (another linch-pin - or one who should be lynched - you decide)
31. rossn13 = Tim Cahill (Always scores goals!)
32. nathan247 = Silva (season long pick)
33. robot = D Kuyt (Anather season like last)
34. BoltonBoy = Vidic (always likely to pop up with the odd goal)
35. arsene doesn't know = Rio (had him or vidic down as my next most wanted!)
36. AKNel1 = Downing (looks a cert to play when fit, goals, assists - what more do you want)

No real surprises here, other than Hernandez still being available. Quite a few injury magnets & rotation concerns surround a few as well. For me, Walcott & Rio look the weakest picks of the round with perhaps Vidic being the pick of the bunch.

Anyone getting tempted by Tevez, Gerrard, Fabregas & Nasri yet ???

How are the teams shaping up ? Richt is currently the Leagues Man City has plenty of options formation wise but his team don't excite. Sted has the Leagues best Keeper but has 2 gambles up front that may prove to be inspired. Striker has been as tight as Arsene Wenger in the early stages but has 3 solid picks, however he may need to gamble at some stage.

Padmole looks like having a nervy, frustrating start - will Friedel get the gloves at Spurs, will Nani start for United & how long before RVP breaks. Chuck also has doubts about 2 of his 3 players but again both could be inspired if they can stay fit & find some form. SamD is another of the League's tightwads & seems to have a clear strategy of building around a solid base, like Striker he may have to gamble at some stage.

Ross has a Keeper who hasn't played a League game in over 12 months & plays for a team outside the 'big 6', a striker who may not start & an injury prone card magnet in midfield & yet his team looks OK - go figure. Nathan is building his team around a powerhouse midfield & its hard to criticise a trio of Lampard, Malouda & Silva (nice work). Trying hard to find something nice to say about Robot's team, Arsenal struggle for c/s for a team of their stature, Kuyt may be rotated more than in the past & play up front less than in the past & Zamora looks to be a massive reach.

BoltonBoy has had a decent opening 3 rounds, solid keeper, good striker and the most expensive defender in the game (good draft so far & plenty of options). ADK has gambled quite hard early on & looks like he'll be keeping a close eye on the injury reports as the season progresses. Finally, my team, I suspect there will be one or two casting envious eyes on my top 3 selections. However it may take a few months before these 3 really start to bear fruit as they settle in with their respective new or nearly new clubs.

Round 4 - Review

37. AKNel1 = Huth (always a danger from set pieces)
38. ADK = Vermaelen (more big 4 defensive cover, plus set piece potential)
39. BoltonBoy = Dempsey (nearly gambled on Gerrard,Clint regular player)
40. Robot = D Luiz (big 4 defender, looks good, 1 half decent player in each position now)
41. Nathan247 = Evra (need 1 decent defender at least)
42. Rossn13 = Rafael (Don't want to be topfourless in defence)
43. SamD = H Rodallega (easy looking first three games for Wigan)
44. Chuck Taylor = Hangeland (to get a better write up from AK after my risky Theo/Nando picks)
45. Padmole = Obinwngie (i dont want Norwich strikers)
46. Striker = Micah Richards (the star fantasy defender of 2011-12)
47. Sted = N'Zogbia ( Can't believe nobody's got him yet)
48. Richt = Gyan (could do with another tasty / hungry striker)

Hmm, I'm a little concerned that I may have got the worst of round 4 despite drafting first. Rafael looks a nice pick with Neville, O'Shea & Brown out of the way (will Phil Jones play RB ?). 3 more strikers off the board with Odemwingie arguably the pick of them.

Dempsey has always been a consistent points scorer & if N'Zogbia settles Sted could have a bargain. If Micah Richards can stay healthy he may just live up to Striker's claim of star fantasy defender of 11/12, he was certainly high on my hitlist for round 5 so no real surprise for him to go now (arguably later than expected)

Quite a strong round defensively, will that trend continue in round 5 ? Still plenty of notable names and gambles left in the stock pile. A transfer to a top team now could change the stock value of several players, but will they get their respective moves & will they be first team players....

Round 5 - Review

49. Richt = S Sinclair (time for a cheaper option as I have already spent a fortune)
50. sted = Lescott (I've no defenders yet and hoping he is first choice CB)
51. Striker = Bale (not sure about this one)
52. padmole = JA Riise (saving pennies)
53. Chuck Taylor = Adam (sticking with the same club)
54. SamD = A Valencia (to provide assists from right wing)
55. rossn13 = Ba (Black and White tinted glasses)
56. nathan247 = S Warnock (need to watch the pennies)
57. robot = Park Ji Sung (Continue my unexpected picks)
58. BoltonBoy = Ivanovic (surprised he is still available in rd5)
59. arsene doesn't know = Glenn Johnson (another injury prone defender, but have a theory starting defenders are harder to pick that starting mids so am cramming them in)
60. AKNel1 = Albrighton (with Downing and Young out of the equation, MA should play more and score heavily too)

Man alive, round 5 was freaky lots of picks out of left field. Delighted to get Albrighton with pick #60 (I had him down as low 3rd/high 4th round pick. Ivanovic is another solid pick from Boltonboy & he is building a fiercesome side with a strong GK & DF. Scott Sinclair is the first promoted player to get drafted and the top of the 5th seems a round or 3 early for a guy who has yet to prove he can cut it at this level. (I'm sure Richt thinks I'm picking on him )

Bale is listed as a MF this year & explains why he was still available until now. Glen Johnson could be fruitful if he avoids last seasons niggling injuries. Lescott and Ivanovic could also be big hitting defenders - if they can get regular spots in their respective teams.

As for Park, Ba, Adam & warnock - what were you thinking fellas

Oh, & AKNel1 has just dropped a bomb with the first pick of round 6, in a move that could either win him the starting XI or cost him the title...

Saving the pennies for a rainy day does not seem to me to be the way to play this game. Time will tell

Round 6 - Review

61. AKNel1 = Tevez (massive gamble but if he stays he's a 150pts+ a season & I just can't pass that up any longer)
62. ADK = Arshavin (despite being out of fashion in FF, hopefully not out of favour with Arsene, points total like last year will do)
63. BoltonBoy = Nasri (not sure if he'll go to City or stay put?)
64. robot = Jagielka (best of the rest defenders)
65. nathan247 = Clichy (hopefully first choice City lb)
66. rossn13 = Etherington
67. SamD = K Jones (3rd highest TFF-scoring striker in April-May; should be well-supplied from Stoke wing)
68. Chuck Taylor = P Jones (CB, RB, DM, versatility in abundance, add that O'Shea and Brown have moved on and we have ourselves a United player that should at least pick up 'O'shea's' at the very minimum)
69. padmole - Defoe (Because I have no time to choose)
70. Striker - Balotelli (and AKNel claims that Tevez is a massive gamble - is this my Keegan "Asprilla transfer" moment)
71. sted - Alex
72. Richt = Ryan Shawcross (need to strengthen my back line)

Ka-boom, round 6 and the draft explodes into life. Some big gambles on Tevez, Balotelli, Arshavin & Nasri who could all potentially have a massive impact. Clichy, Phil Jones and Alex should pick up their share of C/S & 'O'Sheas' but will they play enough.

Good picks across the board and arguably a stronger round than the last. AK & Padmole narrow their options down to either 433 or 343, whilst everyone else still has a full set of options. Money worries don't look like having an impact and some Managers may struggle to spend £45 Million

Round 7 - Review

73. Richt = Sktrel (ditto to Shawcross)
74. Sted = Gerrard
75. Striker = Fletcher (Steven could get 15 goals this season )
76. Padmole (*no more strikers*) = Kieran Richardson
77. Chuck Taylor = Modric (once he completes his transfer to a proper team he'll add another 30 points onto his 91 tally last season feeding Fernando)
78. SamD = S Sessegnon (attacking midfielder who did well in final four months; bonus is he & Benin won't play in African Nations in Jan-Feb, unlike some managers' picks...)
79. Rossn13 = Carragher (Liverpool should be a lot more solid this season, in theory)
80. Nathan247 =Enrique(bit of a gamble)
81. Robot = Berbatov (Hopefully when he plays high points)
82. Boltonboy =Kevin Davies(consistent TFF scorer,pity he gets booked alot)
83. ADK = Taarabt (looks to be staying, will play if fit, if gets ten of the 19 goals he got in champ i'll be happy)
84. AKNel1 (*no more strikers*) = Sagna (need defenders, big 4, certain starter - no brainer ?)

7 rounds in and plenty of quality still available. 3 Liverpool players (maybe 4 if Enrique moves). Of which the most interesting is Steven Gerrard. Almost any other season for the last 10 years, Gerrard would have been a nailed on 1st round pick. If they can get him right Sted has a bona fide, grade A bargain.

Berbatov only dropped this low thanks to the emergence of Hernandez last year, one of the top scorers in FF last year Robot may have stumbled on a hidden gem. Bolton & QPR entered the draw at #82 & #83 respectively with Kevin Davies & Adel Taarabt. Both are card magnets, Taarabt could be anything & Davies will do well to match last seasons points tally without Sturridge & Elmander by his side.

Modric looks overpriced at 4.2 even if he does go to Chelsea & to me, had little appeal. Sessegnon & Richardson are solid picks but with Sunderland introducing handfuls of new players it may be a while before either bear fruit (assuming they keep their respective places.

Fabregas is the one remaining 'bomb' waiting to explode in this draft. Does anyone believe Arsenal can and will hold onto him for 1 more season...

Round 8 - Review

85. AKNel1 = Bosingwa (maybe he'll get the regular RB slot with a portu-guyser manager - same could be said of Ferreira)
86. ADK = DJ Campbell (has appeared on TFF list this evening, was suprised at his points total 10/11 - would have rather had K Davies!)
87. BoltonBoy = Hoilett (scored a few goals at end of last season)
88. robot = Hoolahan (this year's Adam!)
89. nathan247= Begovic (can't play rush goalie so best that's left, I hope)
90. rossn13 = Fabregas (worth the risk!? probably not)
91. SamD = K Gibbs (same reason as for pick 84, but lot cheaper...)
92. Chuck Taylor = Anelka (watch Nathan squirm as another striker vanishes )
93. Padmole =benayoun (20 second picking continues - hope he is free!)
94. Striker = Distin (an island of reliability in the sea of the remaining defensive dross)
95. sted = Arteta (known points scorer, hoping injuries keep away)
96. Richt = Schwarzer (need a relatively decent fister)

DJ Campbell's transfer to QPR came just in time for ADK, would he have gone any earlier had he been available from the start though. If Gibbs can stay fit he's maybe the pick of the round, although if Bosingwa nails down the starting spot at Chelsea he could post 100+.

Junior Hoilett is an interesting pick that could be anything. Ross will be pleased to see Arsenal have turned down Barcelona's latest offer for Fabregas, can he (& Arsenal) hold on to his potential crown jewel.

2 more Keepers out the way, just 2 more to be picked now. Nathan must squirm a little more every time another Striker is picked - will he start 451 ???. Distin is an OK pick but he's ageing now whilst Arteta & Benayoun both had injury ravaged seasons last term. Anelka may be Chelsea's 4th choice striker with Sturridge's star on the rise.

Wes Hoolahan became the first Norwich player off the board at pick #88, this year's Charlie Adam - maybe, maybe not.

Round 9 - Review

97. Richt = Coleman (the kid did well last term. Will continue in that vain)
98. Sted = Kolarov (are my eyes deceiving me? maybe not first pick for City, but...)
99. Striker = Walters (he'll score a few, and usually be on the pitch)
100. padmole = G Cahill (still time to swap clubs?)
101. Chuck Taylor = Dzeko (has played plenty preseason - sorry Nathan)
102. SamD = D Sturridge (said "manager has shown faith in me and gave me the opportunities" after scoring excellent goal in HK; tipped by R-Post as e-w outsider for Golden Boot)
103. rossn13 = O'Shea
104. nathan247 =Saha (not broke at the min and hopefully last 3 or 4 games)
105. robot = Crouch (all morning thinking saha would be my pick, crouch sticks out as a possible opportunity after quick look at players left)
106. BoltonBoy =Murphy(Cheap as chips)
107. adk = Wilshere (the current day gazza......???!!)
108. AKNel1 = O'Hara (I think he's slipped under a few radars, should be a regular starter at Wolves and involved in most of their end product)

Arguably the first schoolboy error of the draft with (you guessed it) Richt's selection of Coleman. Seamus imho has been misclassified this season as a midfielder and that will have a significant impact on his points potential. Cahill's stock will rise IF he gets his move to Arsenal or Liverpool.

Kolarov and Dzeko will both be hampered by City's inevitable squad rotation, a problem that may also effect Peter Crouch at Spurs. Walters is a nice pick this late in the draft. Whilst O'Shea, Murphy & O'Hara are all proven performers at this level.

Which of course leaves Jack, whose value may be better if Cesc goes as he may be asked to work further forward. To date though he has done nothing to excite the FF Manager despite being a cracking talent for a real life Manager or fan.

Round 10 - review

109. AKNel1 = Osman (under-rated by many, key player for Everton - 343 it is)
110. ADK = Jarvis (same reason as pick AKNel1's pick #108)
111. Boltonboy = Maxi Rodriguez (was hoping to get Jarvis)
112. Robot = Gallas (only Spurs defender so far (if I checked correctly), like to be different)
113. Nathan247 = Larsson (scored well in relegated team last year)
114. Rossn13 = V Moses (bags of talent, very attacking, cheap, manager's backing)
115. SamD = P Neville (TFF reclassify nice guy Phil to DEF - opposite route to Coleman; more points pending for Ev capn?)
116. Chuck Taylor = C.Gardner (really wanted Larsson so karma for Nathan and my forwards jibes, Craig performed solidly last season though so high hopes for more to come)
117. Padmole = Smalling (3 options gone so sulking - think a proper O shea)
118. Striker = Brunt (pleasantly surprised that he is still available)
119. Sted = Henderson (we brought him for a reason; hoping it becomes apparent)
120. Richt = R Dunne (time for a Villa Block?)

More gambles here than on a Saturday afternoon at Newmarket Osman started the round off and is a fairly reliable points scorer. Matt Jarvis was brilliant until January last season, didn't get a move and his form tailed off - still no move but will a new season rejuvenate him. Maxi looks like Boltonboy's worst pick thus far by a country mile (and considering he has Junior Hoilett, that's saying something )

Gallas is OK when fit, as for Larsson & Gardner - who knows who'll play in Sunderland's midfield this year (Cattermole, Sessegnon, Malbranque, Richardson, Wickham etc) probably not even Steve Bruce Victor Moses was worth a shot, with N'Zogbia out of the way he's Wigan's main hope for survival.

Phil Neville is a decent pick up this late but surely there were better options. Smalling smacks of Paddy trying to convince us he really is a Man United fan, should get a few O'Shea's but realistically needs Rio or Vidic to break to get a run in the team again. Brunt is a player I like and considered for this round my concern that Roy Hodgson will have the Baggies less attacking this season.

Richard Dunne could be disastrous as I feel Ciaran Clark may start the season ahead of him or James Collins (and if not will soon claim the place of one or t'other - I doubt anyone would be daft enough to pick Dunne and Collins though

Jordan Henderson, will he play ? what has Kenny seen that others have missed. Maybe a year or two early for him but I'd expect him to be drafted a few rounds higher next season.

Round 11 - review

121. Richt = James Collins (good to have an ex-Hammer on board)
122. Sted = Formica (Should help me top the table)
123. Striker = Foster (generously trying not to reduce AKNel's options )
124. Padmole = Pennant (because I'm a closet Liverpool fan - look at all the ex-players I have)
125. Chuck Taylor = A Hughes (completes Fulham semi block, nice early fixtures and scored very well last season)
126. SamD = A Lennon (Spurs midfield did better than strikers last time; and no one played more games than Aaron last season, not even keeper)
127. Rossn13 = M.Wilson (1st choice LB in a fairly solid defence. And cheap!)
128. Nathan247 =Duff
129. Robot = Milner (Seems ok as an 11th pick if he plays enough)
130. Boltonboy =Alcaraz(Don't think he will be round too long,Wigan got Swansea,Norwich & QPR 1st 3 games.After that Alcatraz for Alcaraz! maybe)
131. ADK = Barton (He's going to play somewhere surely, preferably not Newcastle seeing as they've been decimated of some of their quality - not sure if that's controversial)
132. AKNel1 = Ali Al-Habsi (fairly soft start & one of Wigan's best performers last year)

Lots of barrel scraping going on here. Aaron Lennon probably the clear pick of the round. Lets have a glance at all the teams as they stand now (set in stone until Sept 1st).

Daniel Agger - Should start the season at Liverpool, injuries a big concern
Aaron Ramsey - most likely to profit from Fabregas departure
Morten Gamst Pedersen - sweet left foot, good set piece delivery
Adam Johnson - IF he gets in the team, will score well
Roman Pavlyuchenko - finished last season strongly (Tottenham's best striker ?)
Salomon Kalou - regular points scorer although not a regular starter

Initial queries:
Presumably 30 transfers are allowed over season, as in standard TFF team?
If so, will there be a weekly deadline for nominating player (say, Fri noon) in case more than one manager wants him?
Or, once game is under way, do teams not need to remain unique?
Will super league be open/public, ie, can teams be viewed by fellow managers?

Sounds like fun - but let me check that I've got this right. It'll be a public league and we can all make 30 transfers but we can only bring in players who no one else has, but when a player is sold, anyone with the transfers and cash available can buy him.

I've now read the rules (schoolboy!!) and see that my so called understanding was rubbish.

On the other hand it would make the game more challenging.

& almost impossible to administrate, need to keep it as simple as possible.

Idea of the auction is to bring it back to old style FF, where everyone has unique teams.
I'm in this with Sted, there's a (better) version we're running alongside, with 2 transfer windows, Nov and Feb. A bit Dream team style but TFF scoring. Maybe that'd work for you Nel?

Similar to the Egg Cup but a lot more variety to start with.

I've bought another 4 teams, so may as well stick one in here....

Just to clarify - apologies if this is stating the bleedin' obvious, but in line with the telegraph guidance below, whoever we end up with following the draft are set in stone for the whole of the fixtures the first weekend, so if for example I ended up with Al Habsi in goal, there'll be no sneaking him out for Hart on Monday nights game.....?
