Has anyone got one. I've played with the ipad1 and 2, pen is shite and its too square. I've thought about the HTC Flyer cos its quick Android small so can take it in my cargo pants, and its pen is great. But i haven't used it. WIll pop to currys and have a play. But in terms of overall usefullness, a windows 7 would be best as you can run normal programs on it, games and word, onenote etc, but they are chunky and expensive.
So I ask thee Fisoites, what tablet do you have and what are your experience of using it?

I have only ever played around on an iPad 1 and must say I was very impressed.

Always thought to myself that I wouldnt bother having one as couldnt see the point. But I met my mate (who will be my best man) at Costa to go through some arrangments. He pulled his iPad out and sorted it out on that.

We probably looked so pretentious and bordering on sad, but I like the device 8-)

Anyone thinking of buying an iPad should hang on a little while. There's a new one(iPad3 ?) coming soon, with vastly improved screen resolution.

Not sure why you'd use an iPad with a pen, I thought it was designed for fingers!

Bought mine on a bit of a whim last year, and now three (out of four) family members hardly turn their laptops on. Starts quickly, charges quickly, loads of free apps and tv over wifi. Will probably skip the iPad 2 and take a look at the new one after it's been out a while.

Edit: typo

If the ipad3 comes out in time I think it may be on my Christmas list this year. 8-)

Everyone I know that has an ipad raves about it.

Personal user experience such as that expressed here by bspittles carries far more weight than any amount of advertising.

Although Apple are keeping their cards close to their chest as always, there's talk in media circles that the launch of the new model is imminent

The free voice app with the ipad is very good indeed - makes hardly any mistakes (certainly less than I make with my typnig).

Writing or typing is so 1990's.

I have an ipad 2 and it's simply very good indeed - hardly ever use the PC now - as I said elsewhere even Mrs Knulpuk likes it :D

I recently received the ipad 2 as a gift, over priced in my opinion, but depending on what you want to use it for a very nice gadget.
I have been using a Samsung Galaxy phone for a while and when looking for a tablet I plumped for a Galaxy tab 7" 3g (virtually new) from ebay for £280.
So I am in the position of comparing the 2.
I prefer the Galaxy's 7" screen, much easier to carry around in my man bag than the ipad.
Watching mp4 movies is excellent on both, but some formats of mpeg would not play on the Galaxy.
I have the Times app on the ipad, fantastic way of reading a paper, on screen photos are amazing, I download the daily edition before leaving home and read it offline.
When on line the ipad has no compatability with flash movies, rumours are the ipad 3 will though.
Apps on the ipad are more varied, and some in hd, but they do eat up the memory.
Which brings me to the main beef I have with apple.
The tab has 16gb internal plus a micro sd slot so you can add up 32gb more pretty cheaply.
The entry level of the ipad has 16gb and wifi only and costs £399, the wifi 32gb is £489. £90 more for another !6gb of memory.
If you are going to make comparisons though, then the Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 is more akin to an iPad than the 7". The Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a Dual Core Processor, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, Android 3.1 (with a complete UI reworking for tablets). The tab 10.1 also features an AMOLED display, which is probably one of the best out of all the android tablets.
It really is horses for courses, try every tablet out there before you decide.

does it even have Excel? On the Touch I have to use Quick Office which is ok but not advanced enough to run my TFF spreadsheets.

I suspect it makes a good multimedia player and great for t'interweb and mail. But never a laptop replacement.

Not sure about Excel, but googledocs is supposed to work fine (not tried it though). You can also use OneNote, MS's document sharing tool.

Posting on fiso is no more or less complicated than doing on a desktop or laptop -comes down IMO to the start up speed benefits -v- the virtual keyboard. I have no problem with the latter at all.

Excel - not sure - use my desktop for that.

Even attempting to create a data sheet on a 9.7' touch screen is the stuff nightmares are made of.
Probably can be done, but far too fiddly for what it was designed for.

Can you use a dongle with a tablet?

They come with the ability to connect to the 3g network built in

I tried the HTC flyer in a mobile phone shop the other day, my word it was lightning fast, I mean seriously fast! I was tempted until I saw the price.

I bought a cheap and cheerful tablet from dealextreme for the mrs last christmas, not that quick and not that good. Its ok as a portable media player for the car and reading ebooks/work documents. If you're going to go for it go for a good one would be my advice.

Went to computer shop today and tried out the tabs. Sony one was wierd. The cheaper ones were too bricky, slow and unresponsive at times. I tried the flyer, nice and light, slick, and was fast. Its faster than my laptop and doing things. Didn't have pen in shop so didn't get to try it out, but i have a bamboo pen anyway with drawing tablet. I am used to using them. The apple was to square and big. It seems a more leasurely tablet, for whole family than one for note taking and drawing and internet that i want.
I will go for flyer i think, but wait till price drops when they introduce the bigger version HTC Jetstream over here. CHeapest i can find is £399, with 3g and 32gb. If they an bring that down to 299 then they have a deal. 8-)

India unveils 'world's cheapest tablet computer'

Also, amazon realised 3. Cheap, but can't do as much with it as other tablets.

Off to US next week and am going to buy myself one there. Looking at the apple website, the cost in £ or € is the same number in $, so seems stupid not to take advantage. Although I'd prefer to wait till the ipad 3 comes out, I'm not sure when that will happen as it keeps being delayed, so going to buy myself an early Xmas present. I've jsut been warned by mates not to buy the extras from Apple eg, cover, leads etc as find some wholeseller on ebay for a fraction of the cost.

Good luck with that stuboy. The iPad2 has sold in such high volume that Apple probably won't want to upset all those new owners by making their purchases appear outdated so soon, so I expect it could even be late next Summer before the iPad3 appears, when I'll probably buy one myself.

But typing is a lot lot slower than when using a standard keyboard.

I see that someone has posted that the iPad 3 will have "vastly better screen resolution". Blimey, the current resolution is good enough for me.

Have to agree with David, excellent bit of kit, though as you can tell, not sure how to go scroll down when writing in it!

I've got the HTC flyer and it is the biz. You will need a contract if you need to use it outside the house for internet. I just pop my phone sim into it but rarely take it out. My 5 year old loves it.

It's probably a question of choice as I can type a lot quicker on my iPad than on a key board and as with this post its easier to do on the toilet :D
