How good is an iPad for Excel and posting on FISO?

Posting on fiso is no more or less complicated than doing on a desktop or laptop -comes down IMO to the start up speed benefits -v- the virtual keyboard. I have no problem with the latter at all.

But typing is a lot lot slower than when using a standard keyboard.

I see that someone has posted that the iPad 3 will have "vastly better screen resolution". Blimey, the current resolution is good enough for me.

It's probably a question of choice as I can type a lot quicker on my iPad than on a key board and as with this post its easier to do on the toilet :D

It ain't a question of choice. You'd need to be pretty clever to touch type on an iPad, leaving alone the need to switch keyboards for numbers, apostrophes, etc. This para has taken me twice as long to type as it would have done on my laptop.

Just thought I'd bump this thread & mention that the Blackberry Playbook is exceedingly cheap at the moment (£169 for the 16 GB version which previously retailed @ £399  )...

Anybody got any experience of these dirt cheap £60 tablets?

Such as this one?

So the iPad 3 will be out in March. Does this mean those of you with the iPad 2 will be ditching them in faviour of the newer version? The new ipad will probably feature 2056x1024 display, quad core, slightly thicker and maybe have siri.
Is this enough though, to justify a new model with a massive launch? Its nothing ground breaking that perhaps some people expect from apple.

It may be called the iPad2S,to indicate that it's not revolutionary. There will always be those who must have the very latest model, regardless of VFM

Give it a USB port. That would be revolutionary and cutting edge......

Nar, give it Siri and make it 0.001mm thinner instead.

But if you don't touch type, or 4 finger type, as I do, then the iPad is way quicker.

Cheers - picked one of these up for my daughters birthday (actually got the 2 of them 1 each - elder daughter's b'day is soon as well). Great piece of kit. Very well made and an excellent screen. Appears much better than the cheaper tablets around - it's effectively the same quality as a £500 tablet for £160. Price discount is mainly due to lack of software / apps, although the new Blackberry OS2.0 due out in the next week should add native e-mail and access to the Android marketplace, so that should be resolved very soon.

I'm getting an ipad next week, so didn't want the kids to have something that was completely pants compared to that. Have to say that I'm pretty impressed with the Playbook so far.

OS2.0 is apparently available to download now...
