Do love it but still not overly brave with the variety of raw fish I'll eat. Happy with salmon, tuna and prawn but find things like eel a little hard to stomach.

Saying that, soft shell crab etc (anything Tempura) is a winner, although not great for the diet!

Always steered away from it as I thought the idea of raw fish to be odd but in South Africa I went to a sushi bar and loved it.
I think it all depends on the restaurant as sushi needs to be prepared the right way.

Never tried but am voting 'hate it'

Before you come back at me, I'll also point out that I have never tried eating dog$hit either, or gay sex or morris dancing. I am happy with my lifestyle choices!

But you are a little older than some of us so we're not expecting you to make life changing experiences like eat some avocado and salmon wrapped in rice.

However, I don't believe that you've never done morris dancing....... :D

Love it.

Is it just me or is it ironic that Japanese love eating raw fish?

Me, I love it, the only problem is I can never eat enough. I took little Dan (who's mad for sushi) to Yo Sushi the other day, after a few bowls I realised we were going to spend £50 before we'd had enough, I had to bail out and get a pasty afterwards  .

Love it.

Ditto Fancy Dan - set me down by the sushi belt and you have to physically drag me away.

Off Bow Lane in the City - by St Pauls is as good as I have had anywhere.

Mugen just off London Bridge - ditto re yum.

In Tokyo you get some places that do 100 yen plates (just under a pound) where you can do some serious damage. The only think I have found slightly unpalatable raw is squid.

Is the sushi from northern Japan pre-cooked from the inside these days?

I should also add I have made a pilgramage to the Tsukiji fish market in Toko - 3am one day to watch the tuna auctions and wander round - quite incredible - just looked on the website and:

New rules for visiting Tsukiji Market are in effect as of May 10, 2010:
The number of visitors to the tuna auction is restricted to 140 per day.
Visitors are prohibited from entering the market's wholesale area before 9am.

Not suprising - incredibly hectic. Imagine a big market - the biggest you can - now imagine it only sells fish - and then mutiply the size by 10.
