Someone found this:
'It appears to be totally legal and is paid for by adverts or subscription.
The adverts version is FREE :tmsup2:
http://www.spotify.com/en/
It's not a download site as such.
It's a bit like a radio station but you choose the play list.
The Guardian recently reviewed it.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/20 ... y-internet
In the UK, it's no longer a requirement to be invited, so all you need to do is register.'
Just downloaded it and the search is very fast.

Just checking this out.Great quality and a very very large catalog of choice. Also no ads seen except a little out of the way ad within the player that you can ignore so another plus. Also they show a picture of the album cover upon playing the song and playing the tracks is pretty much click and go.A very exacting search result returns for any music you can name.

Has anyone who has used Jango also used this? Having spent a long time customising my profile/station I'm loath to move away unless it's worth it.

Bloody brilliant site !

Just been listening to The Wonder Stuff, OCS and Paul Weller Live at the BBC.

Probably lots of rare nuggets from the fave artists there but haven't searched that thoroughly yet.

Quality is bang on.

A remarkable site...perfect balance of quality, user-friendliness and availability of tracks. The ads are inconsequential - not sure why anyone would pay a tenner a month?

I've been listening to this all morning, since spotting this post and I'm impressed, brilliant choice and well put together user friendly and pleasant to look at.

I don't think you have to move away from one to try the other one, you could just try spotify without telling Jango and then if you don't like it you could not use it any more and you'll probably find that your carefully honed profile/station is still intact on Jango. Certainly worth the risk I think.

Got a good review in today's Tele.

Apparently the yet-to-be-released new U2 album is on there.

Maybe one day I'll rig up my computer to my stereo. Until then....

It's a great bit of kit and works really well (and the ads are far, far less irritating than those on commercial radio so don't bother me) but I'm getting a bit bored of having to find music to listen to. With something like Jango I can "tune" my station and I get loads of songs I like and a couple I don't which I can forward. With this I'm trying to pick new albums I've not heard before but if I don't like them I have to go and find another one. One thing it's proved to me is there is a lot of shit new music out there!

I've just had a sexy sounding lady politely invite me to sign up and lose the ads... I've just politely turned down the offer and also turned up the volume and switched the lights off.

I'm loving this... Annoy the neighbors time!!! :D :D :D

Thanks. Strangely, it doesn't come up using a search for U2, or the name of the album.

A great site though. As I said on the other thread, it's even better than its forerunners - pandora, last.fm and jango. What with this and MySpace for lesser-known or new bands, there's hardly a need to buy music again - and it's all legal. :)

DrBunker - if you don't want to keep selecting music, just listen to one of the 24 radio streams.

On mine there's a link to it sat on the top left corner...

But only if you're sat at your desk (or you have a small flat!). I did read that they are looking at the options to have it on iPhones et al - now that would be a leap forward! I would agree that this sort of thing just wasn't conceivable 5+ years ago; it's like having iTunes but having every song and at no cost. Almost seems too good to be true

I have looked at that but I think I'll still use Jango for "radio" as I've customised my stations. This is excellent if someone recommends a band/song etc or if I have an urge to listen to some old stuff though.

I don't imagine many people here are paying for the ad-free service as they're so innocuous but even if you're not this news is a little worrying:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7925455.stm
Quote:
The music streaming service Spotify has been targeted by hackers.

The Swedish company says people's personal details, including e-mail addresses, dates of birth and billing addresses, were all stolen.

However, it is thought credit-card details, which were handled by a third party, have remained secure.

Just found about about this site.

Initial impressions are its fantastic for all you music lovers out there. Just listening to new U2 album and the sound quality was good with no buffering. 1st advert came after about four songs and was no more than 30secs.

For no charge, Im impressed. :D

I downloaded it over a week ago and think it's brilliant.

The collection of music for the artists I was selecting seems to be increasing too. Before I could only play a couple of tunes from each album now the whole album is there.

The streaming is improving too. When I first discovered this site, just over a week ago, the connection would break occasionally (esp on the U2 album, possibly through massive usage). Now it never breaks :)

The audio quality is much better than MySpace, last.fm etc because you're playing off an installed application rather than direct from the web.

Just listening to Spotify and heard an advert for their party purchase where you pay £0.99 and get 24 hours of advert-free music. I couldn't see who'd pay £10 a month for the main service but that seems a good deal.

Eggsactly, for 99p for adfree with the catalogue they have, you can't go wrong. Up until now I couldn't think of any reason to pay a tenner because the ads are so infrequent and also unobtrusive but 99p for a party (and a playlist to suit all ages), it's a no-brainer .
