Bougherra (26)
Jelavic (35)

Didn't have to step up there at all. Seemed that every little half chance or promising move broke down. Naismith probably had his worst game of the season, despite still contributing, and Jelavic still has some sharpness to find. Still, we got the win, and we did at least attempt to play good stuff even if it never worked out. We know we can play better.

CIS SCOTTISH CUP SEMI FINAL

Rangers 2 - 1 Motherwell Image Image

Edu 20
Naismith 75.

Bit of a grind, but we got there in the end. That makes it 4 CIS Cup Finals in a row for Walter Smith.

TRANSFER NEWS.

Rangers have signed the Northern Ireland International David Healey and Blackburn Player El Hadj Diouf.

Healey could do a job for us and no doubt El Hadj Diouf has his talents but it is my personal opinion that this man does not merit pulling on a Rangers jersey. A minority of our supporters consider him a "good guy" because he was involved in a incident when he was accused of spitting at Celtic fans during a televised UEFA Cup quarter-final. His club fined him two weeks' wages.

Talk about players losing their way, i do not want this individual representing the club I love, no matter what our situation is, surely we are better than that.

Just my opinion

You have taken Bartley from us for rest of season, central defender should do well for you, he can play.
Surprised that Wenger has let him go to you as he could have been good cover for us, 19 now was our reserve captain, been on loan at Shef United played fair few games for them (about 20)

Yes, the capture of a highly rated Arsenal defender could prove to be good business as well. We know that Arsene Wenger teaches his teams how to pass a ball. It is always helpful having a defender who can pass the ball out of defence as opposed to the long punt. Also the fact he can play both centre back and right back is a good thing for having as small a squad as we do. :D

Exclusive by Lindsay Herron

ARSENAL youngster Kyle Bartley says it's an honour and a privilege to sign for Rangers after clinching a loan deal to the end of the season

Bartley, 19, will arrive at Murray Park tomorrow to begin his short spell with the club and he said it was like a bolt from the blue when he heard the champions were in for him. He said: "Pat Rice called me and told me Rangers were interested and I didn't have to think twice. "It's an honour and privilege to be asked to sign for a club like Rangers and it was an easy decision for me to take.

"Things had not been going that well for Sheffield United but I am sad to be leaving them because I had made a lot friends there. "In saying that a club of Rangers' stature is something you can't turn down. It was a no-brainer for me. "I'm really looking forward to my time with the club and hopefully I can play my part and show what I can do.

"As soon as I agreed to the deal I looked at the fixture list and in the first month we've got two games against Celtic and two in the Europa League against Sporting Lisbon - it's just massive. "I would obviously love to play in games of that calibre but we will see how things go. A lot of great players have been at Rangers over the years and it will be great for me to be with them.

"They have a very experienced and highly successful manager in Walter Smith assisted by Ally McCoist so I am really looking forward to working with them."

Scottish Cup 5th Round

Rangers 2-2 Celtic
(HT 2-1)

Rangers
Ness (3)
Whittaker (pen 41)

Celtic
Commons (16)
Brown (65)

In these fixtures there will always be times when a different team is in the ascendancy - that's the natural ebb and flow of a game. But we simply presented them the time and space to re-group after a whirlwind start by us. To repeat the same in the second-half is beyond comprehension.

Why is Walter Smith so scared? And that fear is transmitting to the players who seem a little suffocated by the manner in which they're being asked to play. Depressing.

Excellent performance this week. Much better tempo, only for about 9-10 minutes in the first half did we allow them to knock the ball around. Jelavic shows his class, Weiss outstanding, Diouf ran the game whilst he was on. Fleck made an impact and Whittaker put in a great performance. I thought Healeys movement, control and passing was excellent, especially as he hasn't had much game time recently.

The boy Bartley is massive and when he was applauding going off I thought he was going to high-five someone in the club deck. Great pass for the second goal, and got into great positions from deep runs. I think we could have a gem for the remainder of the season.

Terrific result and performance. Image

He can play  he should do well for you,is very comfortable with the ball, but needs in my view to play with a proper defensive partner as he can get caught going forward a bit to often (we dont do defending sadly at Afc  ) hopefully you will keep us informed how he gets on

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this result in a game we should have easily won. Laugh at Kyle Lafferty's impersonation of a striker, or cry at Walter Smith's crazy team set up. I've given up listening to Smiths pish now, we don't deserve to win games, he constantly makes us sit deep, he never uses subs, we had a young fit guy on the bench in Bartley who could have been used with a half hour to go, if Naismith wasn't fit enough to come on, then he should not have been on the bench. We had another striker there in Healey, who would have taken at least one of Laffertys misses.

Celtic 3 Rangers o

Hooper 17

I've said it before, and I'll say it again today! When we attack it is slow and lazy looking with people jogging forward in the hope of getting on the end of something! When Celtic attack, they commit so many bodies forward and their midfielders burst a gut to help out. It was so evident that they wanted this more than we did !

If I could speak to them myself I would want Smith and McCoist and the clown with the Clipboard in for a dressing down. I would tell them that to be a Rangers player is an honour and one that you won't get anywhere else. That when you play Celtic it is akin to a battle, there can be only one victor and winning is everything. You go out in every game and you play for the jersey.

You take no prisoners, you play as a team, you fight for each other, you do not pull out of tackles you go for the jugular if you come out of a tackle hurting then the opposition should be hurting more. If they are to be Rangers players then that is all that matters. If they are Rangers officials that is all that matters. If they don't want to follow this route then the time to go is now.

Rant over. :|

Didnt see that coming but hey, well done Rangers, special mention to Healy, Foster at the goal and the fabulous Rangers fans lucky enough to be there. Great result, but let's face it, Sporting were the level of Motherwell or St Mirren.

Scottish Cup: Celtic 1 Rangers 0 :|

As you would expect I am greatly disappointed by the result & once again we have shown far too much respect to this mob & sat far too deep & unfortunately we have paid the price. However having said this we did have a number of players out injured so we had limited options and up until Whittaker got sent off we didn't seem to be in a lot of danger, although in fairness we didn't look like causing them any problems as well.

The Whittaker sending off undoubtedly hindered our chances and while the 2nd yellow was probably fair the 1st one was a shocking decision and not the only one by the officials. Perhaps my point of view is too biased in our favour however I thought Bougherra won the ball in the incident that seen him sent off so I am of the opinion it wasn't a foul never mind a card. I'm unsure why Diouf was sent off although the more cynical of us would say it is because of who is he is.

As for Lennon, he is a complete disgrace and is setting his team out in the same manner. I do expect his behaviour will be ignored by the SPL/SFA who have already managed to stretch out giving him a ban for an incident many months ago. Hopefully now our management will stop the nice attitude with him and start to fight back. It remains to be seen if we can win the title but we simply have to be more positive with our approach and show the winning attitude that brought us the past two titles.

St Mirren 0 Rangers 1 Image

Bartley 24

Dire game but 3 points nonetheless. Top marks to Bartley and Davis, especially Davis who had by far his best game of the season. Controlled the game from start to finish and, although he lacked the odd penetrating run, he turned the St. Mirren pairing inside out. Edu and Fleck really underperformed for me. I've always given both of them the benefit of the doubt as I'm usually watching them on a television screen but, seeing them in the flesh, you can see they don't read the game well. Fleck's off the ball play and general awareness was terrible. He looked like he was a step behind his team mates the entire time.

The worst offence was watching Bougherra making a great run into space but Fleck doesn't realise and plays the ball back to Bougherra, only Bougherra was about 20 yards ahead of him. You could see from the stands that Boughie wanted the ball played in front of him, god knows why Fleck didn't. Still, 1-0 or 3-0, it's the same number of points at the end of the day.

My only criticism is we still sit too deep, really think we could have won tonight had we played even a little higher up the pitch, press a bit more. But hey, cant complain too much as i would have taken that result before kick off. Very professional performance, well done Rangers. :D

Thank goodness for that !!. Please let that be the end of this defensive formation though as we aren't creating anything and toiling badly with it. It's like playing russian roulette every time we take the field. :|

I'm very wary as to Kyle Lafferty's fitness at this moment. You don't get carried off on a stretcher in severe pain and play 3 days later do you? Surely Weiss could have been a better option?

My pessimism know's no bounds :(

I thought we were excellent today and well worthy of our win. It shows the spirit and the character of the players and management that we've come back to win so convincingly after two hugely disappointing results and performances against them. We've dug deep and proved our worth. Now let's build on this in the league. :D

As an aside, what a great experience today must have been for the likes of Wylde and Hutton - another incentive for our youths to do their best to get into the first team.

Gutted to be honest. We HAD to win that game. Its not over, of course not. But it's horrible to know it's out of our hands with 4 games left. :|

We had our chances but in the end were hanging on and relied on McGregor to keep us in it. I would be content had we played horrifically for the whole game but we actually were very dominant for the first 60 minutes. Not winning a home game playing like that with those sort of chances is what will cost us the title, if we do indeed lose it, which sums up the season for me.
