Starting to see a few trends in the man of the matches above

Midfield set piece and playmaker types seem to attract man of the match (motm) awards.
The only defender to get motm didn't keep a clean sheet.
The two strikers to get motm didn't score or assist :?

Started this thread for myself just to understand how motm were awarded (5pts for each motm not to be ignored imo) and I will try to continue to update this thread through the season to see if there any other trends to picking the best player in each match.

Two matches gone for most teams so team trends are emerging;

As per last week, at least 5 MOM's per week going to "playmaker" types.
MOM awards not tending to automatically go with players who score the goals.
Not keeping a clean sheet does not rule out goalkeepers and defenders from MOM awards - letting in a goal or two seems to help rather than hinder atm :?
Attacking or "attractive to watch" teams tend to gain more MOM's
Silva and Moses are liked by Sky as well as winless Arsenal :?

It will be interesting to see if these trends continue :)
Most MOM Awards:
2
Silva (Man City)
Moses (Wigan)

Hot:
2 MOM
Wolves
Villa
Wigan
Arsenal
Man City
Man Utd

Not:
0 MOM
Blackburn
Fulham
Sunderland
Stoke
Swansea
Everton
Spurs

Saturday 27th August/Sunday 28th August

Aston Villa 0 - Wolves 0 Herd(Aston Villa)**
Wigan 2 - QPR 0 Rodallega(Wigan)
Blackburn 0 - Everton 1 Baines(Everton)
Chelsea 3 - Norwich 1 Holt(Norwich)
Swansea 0 - Sunderland 0 Vorm(Swansea)
Liverpool 3 - Bolton 1 Suarez(Liverpool)
Newcastle 2 - Fulham 1 Krul(Newcastle)*
Tottenham 1 - Man City 5 Dzeko(Man City)
West Brom 0 - Stoke 1 Shotton(Stoke)
Man Utd 8 - Arsenal 2 Rooney(Man Utd)

*EDIT 29/11/11: Just noticed now (probably too late) that although Krul was awarded the MOM by SkySports.com, the man of the match points in the fantasy game were awarded to Leon Best. Emailed them for confirmation of the MoM and they said Best, even though Krul was given a 9 rating compared to Best's 8. Unsatisfactory response but won't be changed now probably.
** Herd is not credited for his MOM BUT because he was not a selectable player in the fantasy game until after this match, it doesn't affect the fantasy game.

Three matches gone and some trends have gone out the window and some remain;

Forwards have been quiet for MOM before this weekend - not anymore.
5 MOM's for Forwards and 0 MOM for the midfield playmaker :?:
2 of these forwards scored a hat-trick - automatic MOM for hat-tricks perhaps :?:
Forwards as well as midfielders could be considered as the player that catch the eye.

2 MOM's for goalkeepers this weekend - maybe busier goalkeepers have the best chance for MOM.
Although defenders with clean sheets have MOM's this week, this may be misleading as Baines (Everton concede 2 pens), Shotton (impact attacking sub) and Herd(eye catching debut) may have been given MOM for attacking play rather than defense.

Trends, I believe, are nearly as important as an easy run of fixtures :)
Most MOM Awards:
2
Silva (Man City)
Moses (Wigan)

Hot:
3
Villa
Wigan
Man City
Man Utd

Not:
0
Blackburn
Fulham
Sunderland
Spurs

Week 4 has a few existing trends reinforced;
Unsurprisingly, MOM continue to be awarded for Hattricks.
Midfielders earned the most MOM (5) compared to strikers, defenders (2) and goalkeepers (1)
A trend emerging is that defensive midfielders tend to get MOM for away low scoring victories with clean sheet rather than defenders - Parker and Mulumbu being this week's examples.
Shawcross MOM is imo the ONLY time this season a defender got a MOM for a clean sheet - this is a very low number which may evaluate the merits of a strong defense in the sky game.
Parker, Meireles and Wright-Phillips are MOM on their debuts with their new clubs. Will this continue??

I have also noticed recently that sky have also introduced the MOM list for each gameweek which is a welcome and useful feature which greatly aids sky fantasy football players. It also makes this thread more irrelevant and pointless than it already was. :D
However, I'm not sure if it updates MOM on the day so this thread will continue next week to offer reasonably up to date MOM's for sky and other fantasy football users.

Most MOM Awards:
    2
    Silva (Man City)
    Moses (Wigan)
    Rooney (Man Utd)

Hot:
4 MOM Man City Man Utd
    3 MOM Villa Wigan

Not:
    0 MOM Fulham Sunderland
    1 MOM Blackburn Spurs Bolton

Thanks TLF, have found this thread useful to quickly check MOMs at a glance, rather than go through all the match reports :D

Week 5 comes to an end and there is no surprise in finding out it was a bad week for most defenses as a whole.
Midfield leading the way with 6 MOM compared to attackers and defenders(2 each).
Aguero and Osman getting 2 MOM in a short period of time.
Man City and Man Utd achieve 5 MOM in a row - all of these MOM (10) went to midfield/attackers and none to goalkeepers/defenders.
Aston Villa doing very well with 4 MOM - but 3 of their MOM went to goalkeeper/defense compared to 1 in attack.

Most MOM Awards:
    2
    Silva (Man City)
    Moses (Wigan)
    Rooney (Man Utd)
    Osman (Everton)
    Aguero (Man City)

Hot:
5 MOM Man Utd Man City
    4 MOM Villa
3 MOM Wigan Norwich Everton QPR Swansea

Not:
    0 MOM Fulham
    1 MOM Bolton Sunderland

Unfortunately, Sky are not updating their MOM list (mentioned with link in post above) with great haste so I will continue updating this each week until they get their act together. :P

Week 6 ends and although no individual player seems to have achieved more than 2 MOM so far, the positional trends of the MOM award seems to continue;
Midfield continue to attract MOM with 5 this week, forwards with an improved showing with 4 MOM with Defenders with 1 MOM.
Man City and Tottenham have had 3 MOM in their last 3 games.
Aston Villa's defense is still strong with the collective award of their 4th MOM - however, all of these MOM went to different players. :|

Little bit annoying for trend seekers like me that there is no clear individual MOM magnet so far this season but it is early in the season yet and I am quite hopeful that one or more players may get close to 10 MOM over the course of the season eventually.

Most MOM Awards:
    2
    Silva (Man City)
    Moses (Wigan)
    Rooney (Man Utd)
    Osman (Everton)
    Aguero (Man City)
    Suarez (Liverpool)

Hot:
    6 MOM Man City
5 MOM Man Utd Aston Villa
    4 MOM Norwich

Not:
    0 MOM Fulham
    1 MOM Bolton Sunderland
    2 MOM Wolves Blackburn

Week 7 ends with a number of big wins;
MOM's being evenly spread across the positions with 4 going to defenders, 3 to attack and 3 to midfielders - defenders getting extra recognition than usual.
Silva tops the overall MOM chart with 3 despite Nasri getting more fantasy points this week, a favourite player perhaps. :P
Man City(7 MOM in row), Tottenham (4 MOM in row) and Aston Villa (3 MOM in row) have received 3 or more MOM in a row.
Will this continue after the international break?

No need for me to give my opinion when you have the experts showing you the way.

However, realising that you must be both desperate to ask for my advise and delusional to think I have physic ability, a prediction will be made. I predict all my predictions will be either right or wrong.

MOM Predictions only = Suarez, Silva, Hoolahan, WrightPhillips, Zamora, Moses, Lampard, R.Johnson, RVP, Bale = Predictions only

8 matches played for most and this week MOM awards were mostly awarded for winning performances;
MOM's skewed in favour of midfielders this week with 7 MOM, compared to 2 for forwards and 1 for defenders.
Man City have a 100% MOM record with 8 in a row but this trend will be challenged next week; can this continue??
Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea now have 3 MOM in a row.
Rotation affecting some of the top individual MOM players but predictably, Van Persie gets his 2nd MOM of the season to earn a place on the list.
As alluded earlier on this thread, playmaking and tricky wing-play seems to attract the eye of the MOM judges.

9 matches for most teams and it was pleasing to see some players increase their MOM totals and disappointing for more defenses again.
Midfielders still top the weekly MOM charts with 7 MOM's, compared to strikers with 2, goalkeepers with 1 and defenders with 0 .
Man City continue to show the way to earn those MOM with their 9th in a row - all midfielders/strikers.
A couple of impact subs (Tchoyi, Van Persie) earn awards this week.
Van Persie getting 2 MOM in a row, Cabaye earning 2 MOM in 3 games.
Newcastle (with their 4th MOM in a row) and Norwich (3rd MOM in a row) continue to pleasantly surprise especially Norwich's goalkeeper Ruddy (and his eye-catching saves) earning his 2nd MOM of the season.
On the other side of the coin, Wolves now 7 games without a MOM and they are next to face the MOM machine that is Man City.

Most MOM awards:

10 matches gone for most teams and it is a good day for MOM followers as favoured players continue to shine.
This week belongs to Van Persie - his 4th MOM, his 3rd MOM in a row and a hattrick to boot - a good week for Van Persie owners and a really good week for people who forgot to change their arsenal captain from last week  :? .
Suarez continues to impress with his 3rd MOM - his ability to create goals rewarded.
Phil Jones is the first defender to achieve a 2nd MOM - bringing much needed points to some defenses. Parker awarded his 2nd MOM ahead of his scoring teammates. Ba with another hattrick earning him a second MOM.
A good week for forwards this week with 6 MOM, compared to defenses with 2 MOM and midfielders with 2 MOM this week.
Total MOM by position (est.) over 10 weeks = Goalkeepers (7), Defenders (17), Midfielders (45) and Forwards (30)
Man City (10 MOM in a row), Newcastle (5 MOM in a row) and Arsenal (3 MOM in a row) have a sizable MOM streak.

11 matches gone for most teams and it is pleasing to see favoured players and teams emerging;
Van Persie leads by example again, his 5th MOM and his 4th MOM in a row shows how influential he is - a great achievement which trendsetters hope will continue with any luck.
Man City continue to dominate the MOM table with 11 MOM in a row with Aguero the "constant threat" gaining his 3rd MOM. Silva, despite the goal, did not impress on this occasion.
Newcastle (6 MOM in a row) continue to catch the eye. Arsenal (4 MOM in a row), Swansea and Tottenham (3 MOM in a row) are also in form.
MOM's spread around with Forwards, Midfielders and Goalkeepers all with 3 MOM leaving defenders with 1 MOM.
Swansea keeper Vorm earning his 2nd MOM;He is the second goalkeeper to be MOM at Liverpool in quick succession.
Agbonlahor likes playing at home, his three MOM have all been at Villa Park.
Lampard likes playing away, his two MOM have been away from Stamford Bridge.
The last three Man Utd MOM's have been defenders (Jones and Vidic)
Despite their win, Wolves still can't get a MOM to stop their 9 game streak without a MOM.

While writing up these summaries, I have gained an appreciation for the speed of the many sky reporters when writing up reports; reports written up and MOM awarded within 45 mins of games finishing in most cases.
I believe it is natural therefore, due to the time constraints, that favoured and/or eye-catching players emerge as MOM in most cases.
Maybe the list below includes favoured players from clubs who are in the front of the queue when deciding the MOM???
Most MOM Awards:
    5
    VAN PERSIE(Arsenal)
    3
    SILVA & AGUERO(Man City)
    SUAREZ (Liverpool)
    AGBONLAHOR (Aston Villa)
    2
    MOSES (Wigan)
    ROONEY & JONES (Man Utd)
    OSMAN (Everton)
    BALOTELLI (Man City)
    SINCLAIR & VORM(Swansea)
    CABAYE & BA (Newcastle)
    RUDDY (Norwich)
    PARKER (Tottenham)
    LAMPARD (Chelsea)
    EAGLES (Bolton)

Hot:
    11 MOM Man City
    9 or 10 MOM None
    8 MOM Man Utd Newcastle
7 MOM Aston Villa Swansea Arsenal Tottenham
    6 MOM Norwich Liverpool Chelsea
Not:
    2 MOM Wolves Fulham
    3 MOM Bolton
4 MOM Blackburn Sunderland Everton QPR Stoke Wigan
