right i had this pencilled in as a good training run on my way to my 1st marathon (which is the end of April) but when i tried to enter around christmas time they had filled up.

If anybody comes across a entrance ticket that isnt being used I shall happily buy it from them, keep em peeled folks!

The Oakley 20 would be much better prep than Silverstone.

that actually fits quite nicely into my plan, supposed to be a 19miler on that day so an extra mile wont hurt! Thats assuming i make it that far, got injured sunday before last so have had to take 2wks off, got shin splints on right leg, worst ive ever had them an could hardly walk. Strange as i had been runnin 9milers etc but hurt it on a short run. Very frustrating

you doin the oakley20 CY?

I am indeed and also the Wymondham 20 and the Ashby 20 which makes 3x20 milers over 4 weekends. Just for good measure i also have a 30k this Sunday (18.6m).

If you are thinking about Oakley dont leave it too long before entering it fills very quickly.

Missed the start by 13 minutes (hence we have the track to ourselves).

Overtook hundreds though. Bit concerned about one or two of the track alterations. Theres a whopping great concrete wall and overhanging fence down one of the straights and you want to see the size of one of the kerbs at one of the chicanes.

nice one CY! havnt logged on for ages so only just seen this

I did my first marathon yesterday, the one in Stratford. Was doing fairly ok (was on target for 4hr30 which was my benchmark) till mile 20 but those last few miles destroyed me. Plenty of cramp left me with a time of 4h52. Honestly couldnt have done it any faster though.

At mile21 I got chatting to some ladies who do a marathon almost every weekend and I said that I knew somebody who was like that, someone who travels the country for runs - in my mind I was thinking of you. I thought that would be the end of the conversation, but then they kept on digging.....
.....is he part of the 100 (marathon) club?
.....Whats his name?
At this point I felt too embarrassed to say that I only knew him as CananyYellow off an internet forum  I had to say something......
....'Steve' I said
....'whats his surname?' they continued (I couldnt believe this!)
I continued with my lie.... 'Speakman, his name is Steve Speakman'

Then a well timed bit of calf cramp took their thoughts away from 'Steve'!!

Funny thing is i am CanaryYellow on fetch so if they were fetchies they may well have known me.

I ran Stratford last year. My overwhelming memory is not the greenway but that monster of a climb you go up twice. One of my clubmates came 16th at Stratford yesterday.

I dont run marathons every week though, number 11 was a couple of weeks ago, number 12 will be on the 9th May and then that'll be it for 2009.

Your living in the past CY.
No seriously full credit to everyone running marathons, I've not got the endurance too, its either the calves or the general out of breathe unfitness that does me. :( :(

Must admit that I really envy you CY. That first Marathon in Edinburgh will always hold some great memories for me, but it was my last as it did both my knees in. I have tried to do some running since, but can't get over 3 miles without pain!

Keep it up buddy, I'm proud of you!
