It's not clever and it's not funny but it seems appropriate for this weekend:

On one hand they're amusing, but is it right for a business (any business) to make money by taking advantage of people's sensibilities surrounding a war where so many died from both sides?

Forget for a moment the name of the beer and the clever visuals/text. What if it was a campaign aimed at drumming up support for the BNP.

Perhaps if they made a point of telling us they would donate 50% of the cost price to the poppy appeal, that might help, rather than having a campaign like this with the sole purpose of lining their pockets.

my home town beer!

They have won lots of awards for this campaign - I think a younger Neame was very keen on the idea, it has also helped the company massively, creating jobs.

But as Spencer says, it is a bit on the edge. It is the old tragedy + time = comedy equation...

I moved to the home town of this brewery about four years ago. Small world. The brewery is Otherwise known as "Sh*t and Scream" due to the unpleasant side effects of having one too many of their beers!

the summer ale - Goldings is my favourite - must be about time for the autumn beer 'late red'...

They once did a christmas ale with cherry brandy....which was really good actually!

I like most of their beers to be fair. Late red is great. Never tasted the Brandy one. I was sampling last night... Thankfully avoided the "bishop's finger" :)

Forgetting the name would be wrong, as that was the first step in their appealing to a sector of the market. Once they had the name, the Marketing Campaign was a small step......

Germany bashing is rather pathetic, imho - not to mention that most advocates of it conveniently ignore the fact that the Monarchy is German, as well as the Angles and Saxons from which Anglo-Saxon is derived.
