Now that our Main League has been closed to new entries it is time to give some thought as to how we will split the League into smaller Leagues come the deadline.

Last year it turned into a bit of a last minute nightmare trying to organise our main Mini League into individual Leagues of 5/6 players. The closing date for entering our 5/6 man Mini Leagues is the 29th May, and our immediate target is winning the Spring League which concludes with the US Open on 16th of June. To give us enough time to organise things I suggest that we should create our individual Mini Leagues following the Mallorca Open and the Valero Texas Open which finish on the weekend of 15/16 May.

Well done Pa, you obviously put a lot of work and thought into all the permutations. :)

My only concern is that although you have worked within the rules, the Scotman newspaper or whoever makes up the rules may be concerned when they continue to see the same team names appear in all the top performing mini leagues.

They may come back and hit us with this part of their terms & conditions:

6.2 Any users that the company feels are not conducting themselves within the game with ‘Good Sporting Conduct’ will be removed from the game. Company's decision is final and the Company will not enter into any discussion about teams that are disqualified.

I don't know what the alternatives could be other than creating a 'Premier League' of the top 5 at the cut-off with a 'Championship League' for those in 6th -10th.

Perhaps we could email them to confirm your perms would not be disqualified? IMO the rules are open to interpretation and it would be a shame if all your good work was for nothing.

But if you go to the next rule it says:

6.3 Duplicate mini-leagues entered into the League of Leagues will be removed without question. Duplicate mini-leagues constitute a mini-league with the exact same teams entered and as such will NOT be eligible to win prizes.

Obviously we will not be calling our Teams Fiso 1, 2, 3 etc to draw undue attention to ourselves, but we are within the rules as far as I can see. I will seek clarification from them however.

You highlighted the part which I felt may be open to interpretation:

Leagues 1-2-3
1,2,3,4,5,
1,2,3,4,6,
1,2,3,4,7

It might be construed that these are the exact same teams with a further team added just to make them appear different.

I am playing devils advocate here as I'm all in favour of your perms! :)
I just don't want us to fall foul of the people who make the decisions although as you say we will have done nothing wrong.

It will be interesting to see what response you get from your enquiry. Hopefully you will get the all clear. :)

At least we have a couple of months to sort it out Alan. I may not be in their good books just now as I have just sent them another stinging Email.

From: John Morrison
Date: 03/11/10 16:16:56
To: SilentManager
Subject: Re: [#S56938] - SilentManager Priority Query

Already your competition is turning into a disaster and we have not even started yet. I sent you a message this morning advising that nobody could log on to the game as a weekly activation code was being asked for, but this activation code does not yet exist. I have yet to receive a response from you.

With the start of the Competition only a few hours away a lot of people will be extremely disappointed that they can not make adjustments to their teams. I have sent an Email to Kim Steggles (Silent Manager) about the lack of response and I will be contacting Ben Wallace of the Scotsman to complain about this mess.

Back in without an activation code.

A bit off thread but.....

I just logged in and noticed I already have 2 transfers.

I have used these to bring in players who are entered for the next 2 european events in the hope that I'll get 2 more on Monday.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Probable stupid question alert, there's bound to be something in the rules I have not read...!!!!

How come every player who finished outside the top 25 was given 27 points??? The points guide in the rules suggests they should have only received the 5 points for making the cut times 1.5.

The Friendly Golfer continues his run of birdies and dominates at the top of the Mini League with Admin in second place (memories of the Fiso Annual). TFG is also up to 13th on the Overall Leaderboard.

The Team at the Top of the Mini League Leaderboard has an average of 2265 points with 5 members. If we took our Top 5 Average it comes to 2853 points and we would be miles ahead already. :D

I got a reply from Silent Manager regarding the way I was thinking about setting up our Mini Leagues and it looks as if we we will have to change our strategy. I shall change the 1st Post accordingly.

Query Ref - 59906
Date Updated - 23/03/2010 16:35:20

Update Information :

Hi John,

Although these leagues are not exact duplicates they still consist of a majority of the same users. This may be perceived by other users as unfair and under our terms we deem this as un-sporting conduct within the game. Mini-leagues should consist of different users in each ideally, although your mini-league does not breach the term 6.3, if you where to become a winner all leagues would be looked into and user comments (if any passed) to the client for final say.

6.2 Any users that the company feels are not conducting themselves within the game with ‘Good Sporting Conduct’ will be removed from the game. Company's decision is final and the Company will not enter into any discussion about teams that are disqualified.

Just took a quick look at the teams directly above me, most still seem to have Harrington as Captain - they'll probably be making changes tonight/tomorrow. Of those that look to have made their weekly changes, Steve Stricker seems to be the Skipper of choice and I think given my good start it would be the sensible thing to follow this trend.

For those looking for a low risk gamble on their Captain, Phil Mickelson does not seem to have garnered much support. For those looking at a slightly riskier strategy, Villegas or Molinari both appeal. Whilst for those willing to risk it all - yes Padmole, I'm looking at you, Soren Kjeldsen in group 7 could catapult you up the leaderboard with a strong week.

Pa, given the response you have had re: mini-leagues, I will set up a 'Friendly Golfer' mini league, where any members of http://www.thefriendlygolfer.com will be welcome to join. That will be the only mini-league my team goes in as I agree with the sentiments from the Scotsman re: unsporting behaviour to be in multiple similar mini-leagues. I think last year things got a bit silly, so whilst I appreciate the effort you've put in - I'm out :)

The Ruling makes it pretty straight forward now AKNel. The Top 5 in our Main Mini League could create a Secondary Mini League following the Mallorca Open and the Valero Texas Open which finishes on the weekend of 15/16 May. Those positioned 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40 could all do the same. We have no chance of winning with a 40 man Mini League and you really must break it down into Leagues of 5.

I was afraid this might have been the response. :(

On the plus side, if we decide the top 5 (or 6) come the cut-off date enter a 'Super League' it will give us all something to aim for.
The 5 or 6 below can form another league and it should be nice and competitive to see which mini league does best. :)

Thanks for doing the ground work, Pa. :)

I'm waiting on my new Computer getting delivered. In the meantime I'm trying to use an old Dell Optiplex GX1 (doing my brains in) it's about as quick as Toffeelover lining up a 3' putt ... yaaaaaawwwnnn :D
